  • I can't do artificial sweeteners so diet sodas are out for me but here's my current recipe: seltzer + spirit + splash of juice. My current favorite is Perrier, blueberry vodka, and a splash of Newman's Own Lemonade. Delish!
  • I also agree about the protein and would like to mention fat as well. Fat goes a long way in keeping us full and perhaps you've fallen into the "low fat" trap? Check your macronutrients and see how you're doing on fat and protein. Additionally, if you're exercising, you may need to add in a couple hundred calories. That…
  • You might also check a used sporting goods store. I bought mine that way and it was about half price. Good luck! Boxing is awesome :)
  • I also just bought a Polar FT4 and so far, so good. I've always had Polar products and have been pleased with them.
  • I would pick a roll that has similar ingredients... even if it's different fish, I suspect it would be similar enough for you.
  • I think it's also important to define "being in shape." You can have great cardiovascular fitness and strong muscles and still be overweight. However, those are not necessarily things you can see so you might judge someone for "not being in shape" when in fact, they can out run or out lift *you*. I think it's most…
  • I totally think you should go for it! There are all kinds of trainers for all kinds of people. There are the clients that want the trainer with the perfect body (you can't do anything about that) and there are clients who prefer their trainers to have average bodies. *shrug* I think much of it comes down to personality and…
  • I'm not a big dubstep fan but I have quite a few friends that are DJ's (and a couple of those LOVE DS). Check out soundcloud.com and search for dubstep. Some mixes are downloadable while others are not (you could listen via your pc while you exercise).
  • I'm guessing it's a "free food." At least, I hope it is.
  • How awesome! I too have purple hair (well, they're highlights) and I love it. I get so many compliments on it. My hairdresser uses a brand called Provana and it holds color really well. Just a couple of tips... Don't shampoo too often. I shampoo about once a week. Every third shampoo, I'll use a hair mask afterwards. Also,…
  • Just wanted to point out the difference between a nutritionist and a registered dietitian. Anybody can hang out a shingle and call themselves a nutritionist so I would avoid those. If you decide to see someone, make sure it's a registered dietitian. Best of luck to you!
  • Wow, thanks for sharing. I suspected some unhealthy things were going on but I had no idea it was that demoralizing. How sad. As a personal trainer, The Biggest Loser just makes my job so much harder... People are already unrealistic about weight loss and seeing folks lose double digits in a "week" furthers that. I tried…
  • Two reasons... 1. Better to lift when you're fresh as you're more likely to injure yourself weight training than doing cardio. 2. Cardio helps move the lactic acid out your muscles which is helpful after lifting weights.
  • I don't think there's a person on here who hasn't felt the way you do. Sometimes this is just all so EXHAUSTING. I've been doing this for about six months and I too have days like that. Here's what I do: * Read the message boards. There is lots of motivation here ranging from "Wow, she's doing really great" to "How sad.…
  • Thanks for the question and the answers! I love avocados but I'm the only one that eats them and therefore avoid buying them because I always seem to waste part of it.
  • Agree with what's been said already. Personally, I make my egg scrambles with one full egg and one serving of egg substitute. I've discovered that the egg substitute yields more protein (but a few more calories as well) plus, I know we wouldn't use the yolks if I separated the whites out... and wasting annoys me.
  • Seltzer and your spirit of choice. If that's too strong, have them add a splash of juice. I used to enjoy diet soda and spirits but gave up diet soda to treat my migraines. Have a fun evening out! :)
  • Put 6 oz of Greek yogurt, half a banana, one tablespoon of peanut butter, and half a cup of almond milk in a blender with a couple of ice cubes. Blend and enjoy!
  • There is a Saturday Night Live recurring character that does this.... so funny. I love the "game" responses and of course, remembering where this all comes from. When people one-up, it's about THEM and not you. I generally refuse to put much energy into such people so I generally say "How…
  • Best to mix it up... BUT, if you're going to strength train and do cardio in the same day, do the strength training first. You're much more likely to injure yourself with weights than cardio so it's better to be fresh for the exercise that requires more concentration.
  • Almonds. I love my almonds.
  • I think it's a good idea for you to explain why you don't think she's ready BUT, if she still insists - let her do it. Sometimes it's motivating for clients to see what they're aiming for.
  • You didn't mention what "other things" are but assuming she got a decent workout in, I'd guess it was probably a fine session. I think it's completely appropriate to mention that you didn't feel like things went so well time. We're human and every session isn't going to be perfect (sometimes your "best" is 70%, you know?).…
  • The fitter you get, the less important that percentage is. This is when it becomes critical to listen to your body and learn from it. Your body will let you know when to take a break. I don't know anything about the Shred program but if you do get up high and can sustain that level, it's not something you should do every…
  • Check the serving size as well. Many protein powders give nutritional info for TWO scoops. The average woman would only need one. :)
  • It's going to dehydrate you and you probably won't last as long nor have as good of a workout because you're uncomfortable.
  • Congrats to you for making healthy positive changes! Something in your post caught my eye and I wanted to comment on it... You mentioned a complete nutrition makeover. In general, this is a bad idea because people don't tend to stick with "makeovers." I've been a personal trainer for nearly 7 years and I've never seen…
  • Salt, pepper and a little bit of curry powder.
  • If you put your feet on the bench, that helps keep your hips down and protects your back. :)
  • Drink hot tea (preferably herbal so you don't ramp yourself up on caffeine). I always keep quite a few herbal teas on hand to drink when I get into that hungry/binge-y mood.
