  • a) she wasn't. b) sizes in the fifties were much, much smaller than contemporary sizes anyway. She had a 22-inch waist and 35-inch hips. She is a much better representation of the ideal toward which people are reaching than of an exception to it.
  • I'm in this place too! Started at about 180 (I'm 5'8"), gradually got down to 160 and was very fit after doing P90X. Went primal, felt amazing, lost all the jiggle and was pumped to start hitting the meat of the issue and getting down to a size six. Then life crapped all over me and I'm almost back where I started. Sigh.…
  • I once ate a whole medium pizza. I think that's the worst quantifiable one. Almost a whole thing of ice cream on several occasions. And I can eat a truly impressive number of dinners (and desserts and more dinner) at Chinese buffets and sushi restaurants. Mmmm sushi.
  • Well if you want to do something drastic that will work wonders, stop eating grains and starch cold turkey. You don't need them at all. You should be eating a high fat diet (nothing will make you lose body fat and feel freaking amazing faster), but if you don't want to you can still get carbs for energy from fruits and…
  • This has been one of my life goals for so long, not gonna lie. It might be tough, I seem to be just built this way, because I had this problem before I got overweight. Still. I want to wear skirts all day in July, damnit!
  • I'm almost exactly your height and I weigh 160 right now. It's definitely not goal for me, I have a lot of fat left to lose, and I've always been muscular and weighed more than most people my size. Wait until you get there and see what your body composition looks like, but it might not be the end of the road. Awesome…
  • This is not a can of worms that needs opening on MFP. Though, considering the intelligentsia have been arguing about it for literally thousands of years, I wouldn't be so quick to think you've cracked it and we should all go home.
  • Yeah, Insanity is really brutal. I thought I might die or throw up or both. Fun times! :D
  • If you can go cold turkey, go cold turkey. I do. The standard advice is to cut things about slowly, but that doesn't work for me; I just decide I'm going to do something and then do it. Don't buy any crap at all. If you can't get it without exerting time and effort, you won't eat it.
  • Why not shoot for a size six in jeans with good muscle tone all over and not worry so much about what weight that'll be.
  • Low iron can cause orthostatic hypotension, blood that isn't sufficiently oxygenated, too... So can some medications.
  • The film was just okay, but the spectacle was stupendous and I can't resist a complicated costume. :3
  • Surprisingly, celery works great in smoothies. Just don't put more than three stalks in or your smoothie won't blend smooth.
  • Jessica Biel has the body I aspire to have. She has the exact same figure I do (except the boobs lol, but I wouldn't want bigger boobs) and seeing her looking ripped but still so feminine is very inspiring. Especially since I can be a little self-conscious about my broad shoulders and being stronger than most guys I know.
  • This is way, way harder for me than P90X. I definitely prefer the X, but I'm going to push through (yes me, you ARE) because cardio is clearly my weakest spot lol. Learned that the hard way today. I really thought I might pass out.
  • I have the same problem. My legs don't hurt, but I get winded and cramp up extremely quickly when I try to run outside. On the treadmill- no problem. I think it's a combination of the ground's resistance properties, wind, temperature, and lack of consistency compared with the set pace of the treadmill.
  • Completely agree. People here are less willing to engage in a discussion involving disagreement than any community I've ever browsed. Caring and kindness aren't all pats on the back. I warn people: don't ask for my opinion if you don't want to hear the truth, because I don't believe in lying to spare your feelings right…
  • I guarantee if you do P90X and eat even half decent food you will lose fat. You couldn't possibly avoid it. The Lean schedule is one way of doing P90X. There are three different ways depending on your goals. Or you can mix it up yourself.
  • Right now I have it at 135, because when I was in the 140 range I was never happy and was always sucking my gut in. I don't know, I'll have to see what I look like as I go along. I'd like to have a body fat % of 20.
  • Don't worry about it, it's just water weight. It'll go away after your period.
  • It does happen. I still like pizza and chocolate bars right now, but I no longer like pop or coolers and I can't eat super-sweet foods that I used to love. And I never drank pop regularly to begin with (but I liked it, it was a treat). I don't think you'll stop liking pizza, but you might stop liking fried foods and things…
  • I definitely think healthier = happier, and a lot of people need to be thinner to get there, but just being thin isn't going to make you happy. Even just being healthy isn't going to make you happy, you have to work on the underlying causes of your unhappiness and dissatisfaction. Getting fit might be enough if your…
  • It is really, really important. Improving balance and flexibility (which it does) will make an impact on your fitness that cannot be overstated. It's great for your core, too and I it always erases my soreness from the week of workouts preceding it. I don't really understand how people get bored doing it because I find it…
  • Keep your activity level at sedentary and log your workouts (then eat most/all of your exercise calories). Your activity level is your normal activity and workouts are tracked separately.
  • I agree that it's important that people realise how bad these things can really be for the body (and I'm throwing in frozen lunches, because I see so many people thinking that's health food- no it isn't), but eating McDonald's once in a blue moon is not going to kill you, it's not even going to harm you. I'm a big believer…
  • Never think "oh, the day's shot anyway". Always think, well that wasn't the best, but I'm back on the wagon right now. Moment to moment. Mistakes happen, but they're in the past, they don't have to ruin your whole day. Honestly, the attitude that the day is a wash and I'll start new tomorrow is what kept me from losing for…
  • I'd go by body fat % and how you look and feel more than weight, but I'm 5'8" with an athletic build and I was definitely overweight at 170. For someone your height, 135 is almost certainly not too thin at all. See what you think when you get closer to your goal and use your own judgement, but you'll probably be surprised.
  • NAY. Way nay.
  • Tip-toe. Good running/walking form places the load on the balls of the feet (rolling onto the heel briefly as the next step is taken). To consciously change, try keeping your heels up and listen to the noise you make as you walk (it should be very quiet). When running, try to kick yourself in the bum with your heels.…
  • I lived off Allen's vegetable cocktail, yoghurt, protein shakes and pasta (KD, I needed the calories) after I had braces put on and couldn't chew anything.
