This exactly. It's what I did as well....it took a year to lose the weight, but it was well worth it. I also followed "in place of a road map" and found it to be easy to understand & it made great sense to follow. Good luck to you. *Edit for typos.

This can help you to calculate your needed calories. Also note: measure yourself....it means just as much as the scale when you are building muscle. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

You're not eating enough. You will lose weight for awhile, but then will find difficulties. Dramatic calorie restriction is not a healthy long-term way to lose weight. You should combine sensible lower calories with exercise. I have been following the following method & have found it VERY successful over the long term. I…

When my 8-year old son asked me if I was going to die of a heart attack because I was fat. One year later, I'm at my goal weight and thank my son every day for the motivation & support I needed.

Do this....you will lose. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

This....it's the same for me. Just drink a LOT of water.

Try this... http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12 It will help you to calculate your "true" values & not just the MFP defaults.

This is my experience with MFP as well - the calculations are very high.....Be careful with using them so you don't overestimate your burn.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. My weight loss has been slow & steady, which tells me that I'm much more likely to keep this up for the long term. Finding MFP was a life-changing experience for me. Who knew things could be so simple?? Not always easy.....but..... :) thank you again!

I am 5'4" and currently 145. I wear size 10-12 pants & large shirts (I have big boobs & need the extra room).

Hi from Belgium! Here's my advice for you & for anyone else getting started: -Don't expect to lose the weight quickly. It didn't go on quickly & it won't come off quickly (especially if you want to make it a long-term weight loss). -Don't get discouraged. You will have good days/bad days. Good weeks/bad weeks. Just keep…

It's common for the first week - you're losing a lot of water. Don't expect it to continue at that rate, but don't be discouraged! It's a great start and hopefully the "high" you feel this week will carry you through the weeks where you stall and bit and don't seem to be losing weight (even though you may be losing…

Try following this plan on setting your target calories: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12 I tried to follow the MFP guidelines & I discovered it wasn't enough calories for me and my weight loss actually stalled. Once I followed these recommendations and began eating a…

Congratulations on your achievement and thank you for your message. It's one I think we all need to hear and understand. Well done! Here's to a happy and healthy life! Enjoy that steak.

Don't worry - when you start exercise, it is normal to gain water weight as your muscles repair themselves. This is not a permanent weight gain, but simply your body's response to the exercise. The weight will drop. However, with that much exercise are you sure you're eating enough? 1200 & sometimes less is too low if…

You're welcome. The advice in the link has worked wonderfully well for me!

Follow the guidelines here to determine what your body is really burning & what you should be consuming. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

I grew up with Spanish & English, but now I speak French as well. Since I travel internationally for work quite a bit, knowing these languages has been spectacular!

Tofu - cubed & put into stir fry vegetables. Low fat, good protein & depending on what spices you add to the mix, you can get some varied flavors. Also - if you need a snack idea, blend tofu in place of sour cream in any of your favorite dip recipes & eat with raw vegetables.

Absolutely you should track these. There are significant calories in alcohol. 1 glass of wine is approx 120-140 calories 1 ounce of rum is 65 calories. Now if you mix anything with fruit juice you're really going to increase calories quickly.
