I'm doing low carb too, not keto: very low sugar, high fiber, and high fat, but lower saturated fat than some of the LCHF diets. I don't know if it will help - I'll see!

It certainly won't hurt, but it might not help, depending on your physiology. It's worth trying, if you have weight to lose, and you aren't already exercising. The only thing a healthy diet and exercise seem to do for my cholesterol is keep my HDL/LDL ratio extremely high, which may or may not be a mitigating factor.…

Her beautiful face. So sultry.

I have crazily high cholesterol, and even more crazily high HDL. I'm going to have an expanded lipid panel done to see if I have the healthy kind of LDL (yep, there's a good "bad" cholesterol), and whether I can just stop worrying about it.

I can't paraphrase it very well, but there was a thread in this forum about how long it takes for the body to stop trying to regain the weight you lose. It was a hormonal thing, if I remember correctly, and the time frame was a little less than a year. I found it very hopeful. If a person can hold out for a year, your body…

Actually, crossfit and swimming have similar calorie burns, around 700/hr if you go at it hard, and both offer a full body workout. You are a lot less likely to be injured swimming, although, if you're not good at it, you might drown. Why not do both? You can make adjustments for your fitness level, and any injuries you…

It's a good day for intermittent fasting, where you eat all your calories in 10 hours, and fast for 14. If you prefer eating early in the day, you could do it everyday. Then it's a positive instead of a negative! It's supposed to be good for blood sugar, insulin resistance, blood lipids, and neurogenesis, as well as weight…

I'm delighted if I get all of my fiber, vegetables, and protein without reaching my calorie and carb limit, and have some extra fat. It doesn't happen often.

I wasn't given a choice when I was six, and I'm still exercising.

I add a mix of stevia, monkfruit, and erythritol or xylitol to my Fage, plus vanilla, and sometimes almond butter. Almond butter tastes very sweet to me.
-
I can do that with my hands tied!

There's good exercise, and improved flexibility, to be had!

Your doctor should be able to tell you if more cardio would be beneficial. There's no need to be tied to one particular brand of cardio workout.

How is improved blood sugar, blood lipids, and cardiopulmonary fitness a waste of time and energy?
-
I never eat more than one or two servings of fruit a day, to keep my sugar consumption low. Unfermented dairy is another source of sugar.

Pulses seem like an excellent thing to try. They're high in carbs, but have a low glycemic index. A low carb diet can be a good way to deal with high blood sugar, however not everyone needs to be extreme about it. Make changes you can live with, and if you need to make more changes, you will find a way. What about protein…

Protein is important. People not starving is important. The planet is important. Bring on the fake meat!

They need a lot of eggs! Coconut flour soaks up a lot of liquid too. Here are two. I don't add the sugar to recipes that call for sugar. http://blog.paleohacks.com/coconut-flour-pancakes/# http://www.girlversusdough.com/2015/10/01/fluffy-coconut-flour-pancakes/ I haven't tried the second one, but more eggs is usually good.…

My foods for getting enough fiber without too many carbs are avocados, black soy beans (kind of hard to find - Eden has them in cans), coconut flour (makes a good pancake), and if I can stand it, a spoonful of psyllium husk powder in a glass of water (ick). I eat non-starchy vegetables, but half an avo has 7 grams of…

Congrats on the new job, Pete! You were in shape for the Marines and you can get back into shape. (I'm a reward junkie. Exercise has become its own reward for me, but if I eat right, I give myself prizes).

I have to track too, and that doesn't bother me. It's a tool that makes my life, and my health goals, easier, not a source of stress. I know it seems like it's a lot easier to gain than to lose, and it is, but it gets easier not to gain, if you can maintain for a year or so, so stay strong, track your macros, and relax.

I would go ahead and learn to like eggs, with the yolks, because of the nutrients in egg yolks. You can make protein powder pancakes, coconut flour pancakes (super high in fiber), or banana pancakes if you don't like them as eggs. I like my scrambled eggs with avocado or smoked salmon. Chilaquiles are another option:…

Background: I was living with my mom, who was (and is) an out-of-the-closet lesbian, for a semester in college. I went on a date with a male coworker, with whom I'd had enough conversations to discuss why my parents divorced, and when he met my mom, he asked her if she missed penetration.

I'm glad that walking isn't on the oxidative stress list!
-
Well crap. Do you have some links for that? Do I have to fit cardio AND lifting into that? And does non-exercise activity, and light exercise like walking count?
-
Yes, it could be either one. Did you decrease calories elsewhere to compensate for eating more carbs? On the other hand, if you want to gain muscle, putting on some fat will help.

The article agrees with my experience of overtraining. I used to compete in sports and dance, and always thought more was better when it came to training. Now that I take active recovery days, more than once a week, and only train hard 3x a week, I don't get those nagging injuries that won't quite go away. Nice article,…

Good point. If anyone suggests the drugs, I'm going to insist on the particle test first.

I wish we could flag idiotic flagging of posts.

Best wishes and prayers for your husband. I hope he makes a full recovery.
