I'm not speaking from personal experience, but I have heard that the pressure alcohol puts on your liver to cleanse itself from alcohol inhibits the body from effectively shedding fat- no scientific proof, just hear-say...

Type in 'Les Mills' into search and they all come up- it's the calorie burn that is the problem- do you have your own hrm that accurately measure calories burnt? There is quite a big variation in the estimates given- there is a thread somewhere that discusses accurate logging of calories for these classes :)

You read my mind- I have also really struggled to subscribe to the eat more approach. The arguments both for and against starvation mode are compelling; I am always revising my calories without really giving anything a good chance. I recently read the following article, and found it made alot of sense (to me). It explains…

I use greek no fat yoghurt instead of olive oil in mine- heaps yummier and heaps less calories :)

Hi! I'm new to the group and looking forward to actually commencing weight loss on 1200, after struggling over the last few months on much higher calories and no weight loss. Quite simply, I don't think I've been at a defecit. My 1600 has quite possibly been 1800 (even more?!), with tiny extras or inaccuracies here or…

You are a huge success! What a transformation! Congratulations on your obvious hard work and dedication :flowerforyou:

I blend my sun warrior choc protein shake with 50g each of frozen banana, bluberries and chobani greek yoghurt- it is just shy of 200 cals and delicious :)

Yep, I was vegetarian and jumped on the 'let's go vegan an lose weight' train. I stayed fat. I simply ate too many calories- nuts, avocado, pasta, pasta, pasta, bread, bread, bread, maple syrup, dark chocolate. All vegan, all high calories. It left me feeling lethargic and uncomfortably full alot of the time as I thought I…

Thank you so much for your swift response :)

Hi there, I have a general question about resistance training: Is it ineffective to use the pin loaded weight machines as opposed to free weights? I've only really started, but I use the leg press, chest press, row and overhead shoulder press as my main weight exercises- should I move to free weights or is this still…

Hope it's ok for me to give you my story, I'm on day 2 of reintroducing chicken (eek- finding it very hard!). I had been veetarian for several years, but found my overconsumption of dairy and carbs to be detrimental to my weight loss endeavours. I just ate way too much of it. I fell into the trap of thinking that because I…

OP, I like eating alot of food, so I choose low calorie foods so I can eat more- massive salads with lean protein, greek yoghurt, protein shakes, eggs are all staples in my diet, and they make me feel better than refined carbs like icecream and pizza. I like feeling good about the food I put in my body, so I do try to make…

Awesome story- thanks for sharing. I love your mantra- make each day the best it can be! Well done!

It starts at the top for me and continues downward; face, collar bones, neck, check, ribs etc.!!

I'm a teacher too, a high school English teacher in Australia. Though I've been teaching for 10 years, I still do alot of work at night, and for a long time resented not having my evenings free to exercise as I had both family and work responsibilities. I work hard to be a good teacher, wife and mum to 3 little kids (6, 4,…

I'm certainly no expert, really only learning about this myself, but when you input numbers into scooby calculator under the option of building muscle and losing fat- it keeps your calories at TDEE, ie. with no defecit. If you do want to lose fat, I would create a small deficit, maybe TDEE-15%, but no more than that as you…

bumping even though it's old, so I can continually be inspired :) :)

I started at 165lbs, and currently 158lbs. I haven't lost anything since I started at the gym 2 weeks ago little :( I'm trying to accept the 'eat more' theory, so haven't accepted the 1200 mfp recommendation; rather, I have set it to 1700 (too high???) but it's so difficult! I'm exercising 5 days a week and trying to…

Welcome- add me- I'm always looking for friends and support!

As in nutritious? Gosh, where do I start? -greek yoghurt -quinoa -green, leafy vegetables -eggs -tuna -berries -wholegrains -oats -dark chocolate  ...

I also started on 1,200, thinking mfp advice was accurate and calculated and educated. I dropped water weight fast, but was ravenous, angry, dehydrated, tired and 'fluey'. It was ****e. After lots and lots of reading I used scooby calculator to work out my TDEE (google it)- and now eat TDEE-20%. It's ALOT more than 1,200,…

Wowser- totally ispired, impressed and about to stalk you for 'how did you do it' answers

Politely bumping and adding that I did my measurements on scooby calculator and it calculated my bf% as 28 %...

I'm learning about fuelling my body rather than restricting calories- hard to get your head around when you've only ever heard the opposite- still tweaking mine but think it's going to sit somewhere around 1800-2000. Requested you!

this is mind-boggling, in all the right ways- best thread on here!

You are an absolute treasure  :flowerforyou:

I have been doing some reading on beginner stregth exercises and there is the recommendation that a beginner should focus only on compound movements- squats, bench press, rows and deadlifts, lat pull downs and shoulder press. I've been fluffing about on all the machines for a total body workout- not sure what you think is…
