  • I usually only lurk, but since I'm into religious studies that deal with things like this (the things people don't often think about) and since I was raised in a very strict fundamentalist atmosphere, I felt like chiming in. I think that economics is definitely a huge factor. Especially if we're considering the bible belt…
  • Hi! So I just started my own journey to Bag End to Rivendell Monday of this week (having come across the concept on a few blogs elsewhere last weekend). I'm blogging about it to (or trying to), but had the thought to see if there was an MFP group based on the Middle-earth treks. So glad that there is!! (And not just…
  • I typically take my MFP estimates and divide them in half. For me, there's only about a 10-15 calorie difference between doing that and using Jillian's formula, with Jillian's saying I burn a little more than what I've been estimating.
  • I doubt I'd ever beat anyone up, but I'd have a verbal smack down with Taylor Swift (of course, then she'd play victim and I'd be a bully in one of her new hit singles). And I'd possibly pay someone to teach those 1D punks a lesson.
  • Your new tattoo does NOT look good. Not even close. But thanks for reminding me of why I should abstain from tatting myself. That stuff is all kinds of permanent ugly.
  • "It's Complicated" - Really? Is it that complicated? You guys got issues. Either work through them or break up for good. or alternatively "It's Complicated" - Of course it's complicated! What did you expect when you moved in with the guy you break up with every few weeks?
  • Same. It's not always easy being confrontational when these people know you in real life and know how to reach you in real life and harass you in real life. I don't care about people I haven't seen in 10+ years. But some family and friends are still close enough to make it a real problem if not careful.
  • Oh man, I've been wanting to say this for awhile now! Dear "BFF's" From Middle School/High School, If you don't act like I exist by: 1. Ignoring my comments on your posts while responding to others 2. Never commenting on or even liking any of my statuses 3. Rarely wishing me a happy birthday although you wish others a…
  • My whole life I've had overactive sweat glands. My biggest problem area are my inner thighs. I remember being so embarrassed in school because if I would sit for too long on any of those plastic or metal chairs, when I'd get up there'd be an imprint of where I'd been sitting and you can be sure some who saw were cruel…
  • I was completely shocked when I measured them! I haven't lost any inches in my stomach, but also 2 inches in my arms so the running is the only thing I can attribute the possible thigh loss too. I started biking too, but I've only gone riding maybe a handful of times compared to the 3 times a week C25K. I should mention…
  • I'm about to start Week 5. I can't say that the pounds are rolling off. Because they aren't at this point. BUT, it's helping so much with endurance. Also, for me, I've lost about 4 inches in my thighs and my butt feels a little bit firmer. Not sure if this is due to the C25K only or a combo with my other cardio - I haven't…
  • Thank you for the feedback!! I hadn't read anything about the FT7 having a better track record for accuracy so that's definitely something I want to consider. I'd definitely spend 10 dollars more for better accuracy. Thanks again!
  • Bump in case no one saw. If you don't want to answer, can someone at least point me toward a thread that is helpful with these questions? I've read through at least 10 threads and still didn't find these questions answered specifically (just listing the features compared to the other and no real discussion on whether the…
  • I definitely want in! My goal since June has been to be under 200 by Christmas and I'm in between 221-222 right now so this group is just right for me to get some more motivation (and help motivate others!).
  • I know people are against the name, but it makes a lot of sense. Fat people are labeled as "fat" and, thus, are not accepted. The "fat" label is not easily escaped, even if one is only 10 pounds overweight. We live in a ridiculing society with many pushing their standard of living on someone else just because logic tells…
  • I'm probably cheating, but I tried outside and jogging in place inside (since I don't have a treadmill or access to one). It still kicks my butt just jogging in place, but I feel like I'm able to power through it when it starts getting a little too difficult. So, I decided that I will continue jogging in place inside…
  • All this talk of math and likely error make me wonder if I should even bother investing in a HRM (I would probably go with the Polar FT4 or FT7). If it's only a guess anyhow, should I just stick with MFPs calculations (or trim them down a bit when re-eating as a caution)? I've tried the many types of calculators, but I'm…
  • Maybe Leslie Sansone would be a good option to get you started? You can do her basic "walking" DVDs to build up your endurance. Walking in quotations because it's more like a general aerobics more than strictly walking since she adds side steps, knee lifts, kicks, etc. and a two minute jog at the end of each mile. It's…
  • I've been here for going on 2 months and have only lost about 4 pounds. So, while I understand it's discouraging, there are some of us who would love to see an actual 1 pound per week result like you are seeing. To echo everyone else, you are losing at a healthy rate. Never forget that the tortoise can beat the hare. And…
  • I've heard there is sometimes a problem with the FT4 compared to the FT7 as far as accuracy. Is this true? I would be the only one in the house using a HRM. But we do have the other standard electronic stuff like multiple televisions, satellite, multiple computers, smart phones, etc. Would it be smarter to invest about 10…
  • I know it's easy to label Michael Phelps as foolish/cocky/etc. for coming back only after 9 months training, but I saw the 60 Minutes interview he did. He's not back to prove how awesome he is...he's back to try and prove to himself that he can bounce back. He REALLY hit rock bottom after Beijing. And I'm sure his ADHD has…
  • Sparkpeople is more like an in-depth health community. It has on-staff trainers and physicians. Their are workout videos for you to follow along. They have challenges designed by their staff. There are things called SparkPoints meant to encourage you to participate in the site. You can log other personal goals. There are…
  • I had heard of BodyBugg before, but never the BodyMedia. I will have to look into both more and see what's the best for me! Thanks for throwing in some FitBit alternatives to consider. And, of course, thanks to everyone else for stating (or repeating) your thoughts on the FitBit! (And, not to sound like I'm defending…
  • I'm quite interested in hearing stuff about the Fitbit too! 100 dollars is a lot of money. But if it's a better overall investment than other products then it could be worth getting it for myself (for myself for my birthday so I don't feel as bad about spending so much money at once ). I was considering just a HRM,…
  • Thank you tons for posting this. I'm in the same boat as you. I'm 24 (25 in 3 months) and I have hypothyroidism (and insulin resistance). I have been here for 2 months and I've still only lost about 4-5 pounds overall because I'm going up and down on the scale (it's actually 6-8 pounds, but the first week I was here, my…
  • Challenge Complete!
  • I started a month or so ago, but stopped for various reasons (not excuses, but legitimate reasons). I had made it to the end of week 2. But I started over on Week 1 yesterday to help build my endurance even more than last time (week 2 was kicking my butt!). I use C2K5 Free by Zen Labs on my Android to keep my timing and…
  • I'm in! 1st week and first mini challenge :D I will be doing 150 with 2lb dumbbells.
  • Joining in late, but this sounds like an amazing mini-goal challenge! My goal is to be 10 pounds lighter than whatever my weigh-in tomorrow says I am. I'm hoping this means I'll be 210 at most (and definitely hopefully under!) by Labor Day. That said, I am working with hypothyroidism and never know when my metabolism is…
