I think it's pretty much the same concept. You log your food/exercise and have the opportunity to talk to other members on the forums. Maybe it's just because I'm used to it, but I find mfp to be faster and easier to use. I also like that mfp has the facebook-style newsfeed where you can see what all of your friends are up to

I tried sparks but it just seemed less helpful, I got nothing done so maybe I just wasn't in the right place at the time, but i much prefer mfp

Sparkpeople is more like an in-depth health community. It has on-staff trainers and physicians. Their are workout videos for you to follow along. They have challenges designed by their staff. There are things called SparkPoints meant to encourage you to participate in the site. You can log other personal goals. There are articles on health. There's just simply A LOT.

For some, it can be a little too overwhelming and MFP might be the better choice because of its simplicity and its user friendliness. But I find it beneficial to be a member of both communities since there are aspects of Sparkpeople that I really enjoy.

For the record, I joined Sparkpeople long before ever hearing about MFP so I've spent plenty of time there. In fact, I lost 25 pounds with Sparkpeople between late 2008 and early 2010.
  • I use them both. They are essentially the same concept.

Sparkpeople is more in depth, I love their articles especially. Their community though, to me it seems hard to break in to unless you can join a local group. Their group activity is far superior to MFP.

I think MFP is much simpler in terms of tracking foods, especially being able to scan barcodes in on my phone, plus I can link MFP up with my fitbit.

It never hurts to use as many resources to help you get fit as you can. I'd say, be a member to both!
