  • Welcome! My Fitness Pal changed my life. Absorb as much as you can through the forums and take your time. Remember you are changing a lifestyle so you have to find what works for you and that you can sustain over a lifetime.
  • Its okay to make small changes at a time. You don't have to jump into it with both feet. Remember that you want to create healthy habits that you can live with the rest of your life--not just until the weight drops off.
  • If I can't find the menu online then I order a grilled chicken breast and a vegetable side. You usually can't go wrong with that.
  • Ah yes. I have a coworker who is constantly starting conversations with me about food and "dieting", yet she consumes at least 2 plates of food on days when lunch is catered. If there is more than one choice of dessert, she grabs one of each. She and another coworker got into a heated discussion because she claimed our…
  • People with hypothyroidism can lose weight as easily as anyone else. You just have to make sure your meds are correct and you might have to go a little lower in calories than a person with a fully functioning thyroid. And by a little lower, I mean 100-200 calories, nothing drastic. It's not as difficult as many will lead…
  • Thank you everyone for your input. I follow my macros so I’m getting enough protein and am maintaining my muscle. My core is strong so posture is good. Recomp seems like a good alternative
  • I can't find it at my Costco and it makes me sad because it looks so good
  • I'm getting mine out in December and have done a lot of research into this. What I've learned is that some people without thyroids have to eat a little less than those with a functioning thyroid. Not a whole lot less, but still less than you were with your thyroid. I've also been told that once your meds are stable, then…
  • If you rely on a temporary emotion you will get temporary results. Only you can do this and you have to want to bad enough to make a commitment and see it through
  • Cheesecake Factory's Reese's Peanut Butter Cup cheesecake
  • Eat less. Move more. Weigh your food and log it. Stay consistent. That's all you need to do. Don't throw your money at the quick fixes and scams.
  • Scan packages, weigh your food with a scale, check the USDA site for stuff like fruits and vegetables. Don't trust what is in MFP
  • I've been weight lifting pretty seriously for over 3 years and my legs are always sore for a few days after a leg workout. Foam rolling and stretching help
  • You have to want it more than you don't. I am one pound away from leaving the 170s. My husband took us all to an ice cream parlor last night. I want to see 169 way more than I want to eat ice cream so I declined. You will get there some day. Side note: 100_PROOF your words of wisdom are remarkable and if that is really…
  • My oldest daughter's high school graduation. I only owned one dress that fit (it was ugly and black) and when I looked at the photos I was appalled at what I looked like. Right then I decided I needed to stop gaining weight. Note, that I did not tell myself to lose weight, but to stop gaining. My first, and really only,…
  • Yes! Every time I see this, I think "Yes, you can." :D
  • I take collagen for joint health. It has the added benefit of skin, hair and nail growth but I have not seen any change in my cellulite
  • I can't do a full blown cheat meal, eating foods I wouldn't normally eat. My stomach would protest. So I just eat more of the foods I normally eat and I don't blow it all. I'll just eat a few hundred calories over maintenance if that.
  • I have been hovering between 173-170 for MONTHS. No way in hell am I giving up. What will that get you? But if you keep going what will that get you?
  • Stamina and upper body strength. You don't have to run the whole thing. Many people run at the beginning and end up walking it toward the middle and end.
  • If MFP thinks you're eating too little you will get the warning. Usually its if your net is below 1200

  • I can hit 128g or protein pretty easy in a day. Things I eat: Protein bars shakes cottage cheese cheese (Babybell is my favorite) eggs (you can do a lot more than hard boiled) chicken nut butters Greek yogurt
  • The "right" way is the way that is sustainable for you and something that you can do for a lifetime. If that's eating to your macros then go for it. A great source is the Macros Inc Facebook page. There is tons of great information and people willing to help
  • It's all about the calories. Macros just ensures that you get the right amount of fats (for hormone balance), carbs (for energy), protein (for muscle maintenance/gains)

  • I made my own. Bought a precut PVC pipe at Home Depot and a yoga mat on Amazon. Cut the yoga mat to size and duct taped it on. It's been great and has held up for years. It cost about $10 total
  • I ate this amazing chocolate cake the other week - one piece a day. 500 calories per slice. I made that sucker fit my calories every single day. Last week I ate a piece of opera cream cake - split one piece into 2 days. MFP didn't have an entry for this particular cake but after some research I'm thinking it was something…
  • I have been following macros for a few years now because I lift and I want to make sure I hit my protein goals. Have you had a professional calculate your macros for you? I would start there and then adjust MFP accordingly. You can only adjust macros in grams if you have the paid version of MFP. Otherwise you'll have to…
  • Surround yourself with people that have the same goals as you. The only people I follow on Facebook and Instagram are weight lifting trainers and people who are trying to be healthy and eat right. I gravitate toward co-workers who like to work out and eat right. We share tips all the time and are there for each other when…
