Hi - just went to my health assessment yesterday, and despite all things being good, it was recommended that I lose a bit of waist line (2 to 3 cm) and at least 4 kgs. I am 41, have 2 kids and exercise twice a week (running/boxing/gym classes combination). Oh and I am French, so I love carbs and dairy food... Any tips welcome!

Welcome! My Fitness Pal changed my life. Absorb as much as you can through the forums and take your time. Remember you are changing a lifestyle so you have to find what works for you and that you can sustain over a lifetime.2

set your goals to lose .5lbs a week (with only 4kg to lose this is the recommended); remember that MFP gives calorie recommendations that DO NOT include purposeful exercise (it expects you to eat back a portion of calories)
you don't need to give up any foods; but accuracy in logging (with a food scale) will be a big key to success2 -
Thank you for the tips - really appreciate! I am focusing mainly on waist line at the moment. I am reducing drastically carbs and will see how it goes. It's really interested to keep track of what I eat - makes you realise that perhaps we eat a bit too much, esp as I have a very sedentary job (8 hours behind a screen).0

you don't need to drastically reduce carbs, just eat a little less food overall.1 -
Well despite trying to reduce carbs, I am still above the recommended "amount" that I was given... a bit depressing.0

How much have you been recommended?0 -
1,200 - but I have upped it to 1,300 as 1,200 is too much of a change at the moment, I would like to average 1,300 over the nest week then I think I can lower to 1,200 - gradually.0

Well it's been 10 days - really happy so far -1235 net calories per day average - 118g carbs per day average. I think it's really good. I might not get weight results in the short term, but I think it's going to pay off in the long term...0
