I am almost 55 years old, and went from 178 to 138. I goal is 140, and I like to be on the lower side of it. I am 5'6".

I am at a BMI of 23. My doctor doesn't want me to go lower. It's the first time I have been in the normal range in my adult life. However, as I age (currently 54) my doctor is smart enough to know that in our later years. those at the higher end of weight ranges also tend to have longer lifespans - especially in older…

Age 54 - went from 178 to 138.

Congrats and best wishes. Do you live in Ohio? I am in central Ohio.

My Vivofit did the same for me. It motivates me to move. I also joined a newly built gym which is nearby, beautiful, clean, and I like going. My official goal is 145 but I've been staying under 140 so I have a built in cushion. I vow never to go above 140 again. I was almost at 180 when I began (in my mid 50s). I now weigh…

I should add that my husband has been nothing but supportive, but he has said that if I lose any more my boobs will completely disappear.

I coworker has told me that I am too skinny. Mind you, "skinny" is not a word that has applied to me for my entire adult life. I keep reassuring her that I stopped losing six months ago and am simply maintaining.
-
I lost 40 and have maintained for six months. I have been successful, but know that this is for the rest of my life. I treat myself a little now, but I have to make sure I still track and will always have to. I can't trust myself to NOT keep track of my calories in and calories burned.
-
My struggle is more mental than physical.

I have maintained for six months. What is different is that this timr I knew that these changes were for the rest of my life so I knew the goal was NOT the end.

I hit my goal in April. I have to say I still feel awesome and can't believe it's me when I look in the mirror. Maybe it's because I've never been this small since junior high. I've been fat for 40 + years, so the excitement maybe will last longer for me. I plan on staying this way for another 40 years if I make it that…

I've just gotten so used to it, it doesn't bother me. With tracking exercise and food I can plan for and account for treats and I'm really not as hungry as I was when I started.

This happened to me when I lost a lot of weight in my 20s. I still saw a fat person in the mirror. Now, I'm in my fifties and my goals had nothing to do with my looks. It's all about my health. Been maintaining and haven't felt that way this time around. I think as we age our perspective changes and our priorities alter.…

Mine is between 22 and 23 and I am happy. I am very muscular and solid so getting lower isn't right for me.
-
Maintenance is tough for me because I haven't yet found the balance.

Age 54. 5'6" started at 177, now at 141. My maintenance range is supposed to be 143-147. 145 was my goal. Feeling ok being on the low side, as I will be leaving on vacation within a week and expect to gain a few.
-
I agree with those who say keep the exercise routine and adjust the food intake. I haven't gained any back having been on maintenance now for 7 weeks or so. I have lost a few pounds more than I wanted to. I'm finding it's really hard to eat more (which I never thought I'd ever say in my life). I'm allowing a five pound…

Make the decision for you and do what's right for you - not what others think is right for you.

I am 54. I have been wearing "Large" and size 14 or 16 since I was 19. To put on a top that is Medium and have it fit, or to have on a pair of size 12 pants and have them be loose (after 32 pounds) still amazes me. I've only been at goal for 6 weeks. I have been "big" for decades - I'm sure it will take a long long time to…

Here is my before and after pics.

The older you get the less you let that kind of stuff bother you.
-
I've slowed down losing but am still going down. Trying to get to that perfect balance because I don't want to lose much more.
-
I'm 54, 5'6", and started at 177 pounds. Now at 145. I want to stay at 145-147. I'm muscular so weighing less is not my goal. Just trying to maintain. I'm at the weight I was in high school, but carrying more muscle, so I feel I'm more fit than during my cheerleading days.

I am struggling too. I'm eating a little more, but when I look at the number of calories it says I can eat I am so afraid of gaining weight back. I've continued to lose a little more, so I will just have to figure it out.
-
I suspect that feeling you used to get after eating a lot won't be as pleasurable to you now as you remember. My guess is you'll feel a little queasy. It's not worth messing up the progress you've made. But if you want a binge night maybe you need to get it over with and then get back on track. I really don't think you'll…

I said I wouldn't spend money on clothes until I hit goal. So most of my pants look like clown pants. Will be doing shopping soon. May give some/most away.

Be wary. Many years ago I lost a lot of weight. A LOT of weight. Too much. I thought my body would "know" but in fact I still saw a fat person in the mirror even though I got dangerously underweight. This time I have hit a reasonable goal and now I have to figure out maintenance before I drop too much more. I'm so afraid…

Hello. Last fall I got a "prediabetic" diagnosis. It scared me to the point where you are now. I am now 1 pound away from my 30 pound goal. Finally I am in the normal bmi range. I cut way back on added sugar and cut back a lot on carbs. Did whole grains when possible and added more veggies. I stepped up the exercise and…

When I get Pho I divide into two or three servings so it's not so bad at one sitting.
