  • I pretty much eat every calorie given to me including my extra exercise calories. To start with I had my loss set to 2lbs a week until I moved from obese to overweight then I dropped it to 1lb. Currently I am eating around 1370 a day plus 300-350 exercise calories (5’7”) which I get through a mix of strength training and…
  • I’ve been having a chocolate protein bar in the evenings lately. Only 103 calories and helps bump up my protein for the day. I love my night time treats so always save around 200 calories for the evening. Other things I snack on is Greek yoghurt with a bit of fruit and nuts mixed in, cottage cheese with dried cranberries…
  • Oh and I like your title, very apt :D
  • I’m still lifting but just too busy to check in! Going on a big remote camping trip in a few weeks which we are organizing for, daughter has just had handover of her new house and as she is seven months pregnant we are doing most of the moving for her while her other half is away, helping my husband doing all their…
  • It was pretty close for my loss. I’m not in maintenance yet but it had me around 1700 a day to lose what I have over the last 9 months and I usually eat around 1650 a day. Maintenance looks high to me at 2450 a day but probably because I’m not used to seeing that amount of food to eat. When I work back from what I have…
  • Started my weight loss in earnest on 12 September 2017 and have been going from strength to strength since then. Joined a gym and try to go 5 times a week doing a mix of cardio and strength training (strong lifts 5x5) Eat around 1600-1700 cals per day aiming for 1lb week loss now. Have never eaten under 1500 cals. I don’t…
  • 67lbs down 34lbs to go... 2/3rds of the way there
  • Hi all, haven’t posted in a bit but still plodding along. Feel like I’ve stalled on most of my lifts at the moment which is really frustrating. Have bought and started using fractional plates and still even then finding things tough. Still losing about .5kg a week so wondering if being in a deficit isn’t helping. Have…
  • If you have the stronglifts app on your phone there are lots of assistance work you can add to extend your workout.
  • Yep just a blood test. I was surprised when it came back low as I didn’t really have any other symptoms but do feel like I have loads more energy now I’m on the tablets.
  • This was me, freezing all the time, found out I was really low in iron and since being on iron tablets my temp has been much more regulated.
  • Well after my trainer appointment yesterday I have lots to work on! He picked quite a few things that I need to adjust. It was definitely worth spending the hour with him. OHP - I’m bringing the bar down too low, should be starting just under my chin and not on chest as I am now. Rest at the top, not down the bottom…
  • I’m doing the stronglifts program and my Fitbit gives me about 2 calories per minute. I’m losing as expected based on my calorie intake/burn so for me this seems to be fairly accurate. I’m getting to the stage that the lifts are fairly heavy for me though so I’m waiting 2-3 mins between sets so there is a lot of waiting…
  • Has felt like a productive week this week  Increased both my ohp (finally!) and my bench press. Sunday 5x5 squats 45kg 5x5 ohp 22.5kg 5x5 dL 65kg Tonight 5x5 squats 45kg (still working on form!) 4x5, 1x4 bench 35kg 5x5 rows 35kg Shoulder seems to be doing great. That shrug at the top of the ohp seems to have made…
  • I feel like I have had an epiphany in the gym today! After struggling for weeks with my ohp and my dicky shoulder I’m hoping I’ve finally made some progress. I decided to read all the notes on the stronglifts 5x5 website to see if there were some other tips I could pick up about my form. I have watched loads of videos and…
  • Back into things after 4 days off camping. Have felt really lacking in energy lately and last nights session felt particularly hard even though it was same weights as last week. Had doc appointment yesterday and I was told I have really low iron levels so I’m wondering if this is what’s causing the slump. Started…
  • Good to know, thank you! Maybe that’s why I couldn’t really feel it when I was prodding around with my figures trying to work out where it hurts. Will have a bit of a google re tendons. Seems so far so good after rest, so fingers crossed it won’t give me any more grief. Edited to add that I’ve just googled shoulder…
  • Mine does the opposite as well which I assumed was accounting for my bmr ie I burned 300 cals during my exercise session but I would have burned 50 anyway doing nothing so the extra burn was only 250, which is what is logged. Btw just plucked those figures out of the air!
  • Well 3 days out of the gym did wonders. Have been doing some incidental activity bike riding and walking the dog but that was about it. Was feeling so tired and sore last week so had a few days off and was back in the gym today and felt great. Weight loss was only .2kg this week as a result of less activity but at least…
  • Thank you so much for this, I really appreciate it! Definitely have crappy form on the ohp towards the last lift of the set and feel myself leaning back, but will also take note of keeping my shoulders back on both deadlift and ohp. Have felt a massive improvement today and hardly any pain at all so keeping my fingers…
  • I can only feel it when I stretch my arms in certain ways. I think it sort of comes from just above my armpit and through the side and top of my shoulder. Nothing hurts when I press it, it’s inside my shoulder. It’s not really painful, more of a dull ache that increases with some sharpness when I move my arm up. When I…
  • Friday 23/3 Decided to keep some of my weights the same this session as I was struggling a bit on form. Squats 47.5kg 5x5 Bench 32.5 5x5 Rows 32.5 5x5 All lifts felt heaps better this time around. Unfortunately I’ve had a really niggly shoulder/arm this last week that has got progressively worse. Went for a massage…
  • I downloaded my data today from both Fitbit and MFP and found that Fitbit overestimated by about 70 calories per day on my burn (about 4%). According to my data I should have lost a small amount more weight compared to what I have based on my calorie burn and what I have eaten. I weigh and log everything so believe I am…
  • Feel like I’m getting to the limit of my weights for now. Sunday was a struggle on most lifts. Thinking I may repeat the same weights next time as felt that form was suffering. Squats 5x5 45kg managed all the reps but felt wobbly on my right leg towards the last couple of sets. Bench press 32.5kg 4x5 1x4. Lucky I had set…
  • Wednesday Squat 5x5 40kg Bench 5x5 30kg Row 5x5 30kg 25 min cardio to finish, can’t remember what I did though, too long ago! No gym yesterday as spent the day moving furniture at the office after getting new carpets. Was knackered... Today Squat 5x5 42.5kg Ohp 5x5 22.5kg yay!! DL 2x5 60kg 20 min elliptical Ohp felt so…
  • Friday Squat 5x5 35kg Bench 5x5 27.5kg Row 5x5 27.5kg Went away for the weekend so plenty of walking along the beach and a little bit of leisurely cycling down to the pub. Sunday night cardio at the gym to try and counteract the 500 surplus I ate and drank my way through at the pub. Today Squat 5x5 37.5kg OHP 5/5/4/5/3…
  • To put on 30lbs in a year you would only need to eat approximately 280 calories a day in excess. So if your maintenance is 1800 (I’m not sure of your height and weight) and you are eating on average 2197 a day it’s means you will gain a pound every nine days. You don’t have to eat the 3500 calories extra in one, just a…
  • I think when you push yourself really hard you’re bound to have co ordination issues at some point just from the fatigue. That’s why I’m sticking to steady state cardio for now, I would love to do all this bad *kitten* stuff I see all the really fit people doing in the gym but I just know I would hurt myself! Well done for…
  • Cardio today, 10 mins walk, 30 mins jog. Have changed my goals to only lose 1lb per week from this point on to try and maximize my strength and try to reduce any muscle loss. I could do less cardio, (averaging 30-40 mins most days) but going from morbidly obese to now being able to jog for 30 minutes straight I really…
  • @krokador thank you for the welcome :) Nice to have a group to talk about this stuff with as my husband is sick of hearing about it I suspect
