  • http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods ^^ this is a really awesome database with pretty much all food you can imagine listed in grams, kg, oz, etc. and has the energy content, nutrient amounts, etc. I would suggest double checking the things you are logging from the MFP database against the things listed in here. A lot of times…
  • If you are using the phone app, go to the "more" section at the bottom right of the screen, select "goals" and it's right there.
  • It sounds to me that what you are doing is working :) The weight will probably start to come off slower than 6lbs in 3.5 weeks. Don't let that discourage you though. Sometimes I eat back my exercise calories if I'm hungry. Sometimes not. It's all about balance. If you find that you are truly ravished and on the verge of…
  • Don't you DARE bash the elliptical! I've gotten some of my best cardio workouts from an elliptical and I have bad knees so I can't run or bike like I would love to. And I wear a heart rate monitor to prove my workout intensity.
  • I would like to second the "buy a food scale". Seriously the best $15 I've ever spent. You WILL NOT regret buying/using one.

  • Very true. In this case I like to weigh the spoon/cup, fill it, weigh what's in it, and use the recipe builder for future reference when making food from recipes. But for A LOT of foods, the food scale is especially handy.
  • Congrats on the loss! You are probably seeing a small amount of actual weight gain, and a lot of water weight gain. At this point I'd recommend reintroducing a normal carb intake into your diet. That may be the reason for the binging, and at this point you probably want to start learning to eat "normally" again for…
  • You should be able to find the nutrition info on McDonald's website (most fast food restaurant info can be found with a quick google). Take advantage of it.
  • lmao my $14 food scale was cheaper than a new wardrobe to accommodate a larger me
  • Nope :) some days I'll overeat a little and take away some from the next day's calories.
  • Eat ALL THE CARBS!! But really, I'm very pro-carb. Unless you have a medical reason to avoid it, or they make you feel icky, bloated or whatever, you don't need to avoid them to lose weight :)
  • why don't you just while maintaining a calorie deficit :)
  • General consensus OP: You need to check your scale. Maybe get some new batteries or something.
  • You really think OP's hair weighed 20+lbs?
  • The best advice I was given: Buy a food scale and be very diligent about weighing and logging every single thing you put into your mouth. Also, I have bad knees and I love the elliptical. I can get a serious workout in on the random setting and increasing the level to a place where I am challenged, but not unable to finish…
  • Occasionally I get the urge to eat some cookies or a snack before bedtime. If this happens and I'm already over my calories for the day, I'll just log them for the next day and eat less or workout more to offset it. It is a weekly average you are striving for, so you can have some wiggle room this way.

  • Are you weighing your food with a food scale? Not measuring cups, but actually weighing by grams, oz, etc. Otherwise you may very well be eating more than you think you are.
  • I can tell if what I've lost is water weight just by weighing myself after I've eaten not so great for a few days. If all (or a lot of) my recent weight loss has magically come back, then I had only seen a loss in water weight. If I maintain or only go up a few decimal points, then it was most likely fat loss. That's not a…
  • I would say lightly active for all the days you work and then add workout calories on top of that and eat some of them back (say, 50% of them).
  • Embrace the booty!
  • I would just like to add to the "you're pregnant" comments. You didn't give us a lot of info on if you've started/switched birth control or have hormones out of whack for whatever reason. For instance, I switched my birth control from Depo to Mirena and a month later my breasts hurt EXCRUCIATINGLY for two months straight.…
  • I like to drink hot tea. My current favorite is green tea mixed with peppermint tea. The peppermint tea is oh so lovely on my stomach and takes away the bitterness of the green tea so I don't have to sweeten it :)
  • I don't know where you're from, but if you have an Aldi grocery store around you, I highly recommend shopping there! I went from spending $70-80 minimum at Kroger on groceries for just myself every week, to spending the same amount every two weeks at Aldi. And they have incredible produce most of the time. In fact, the…

  • I have a Polar FT4 and I love it :) It's not what I would consider an "activity tracker", but that hasn't stopped me from wearing the strap while I wasn't working out. I do a test every now and then to see how many calories I burn while at rest per hour, so that I know what to subtract from my workout calories. I love the…
  • You could try using a butter knife to undo the screw. I've done it before on various electronics haha. As far as the batteries...other than giving cash to a friend to pick up for you, Idk what to tell you. I feel ya on the whole poor college student situation.
  • Buy a food scale!!! That will (probably) solve all of your problems.
  • If you don't already know about it, use this website to accurately measure the calories in things that don't have package nutrition labels (fruit, veg, meat, etc.) http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/foods A lot of time I'll just type in (food name usda) and that usually comes up with the same entries. Also, yes the raw…
  • If you give yourself "cheat meals" (definition being that you go over your allotted calories) you are only cheating yourself out of weight loss. If you can make it fit, I wouldn't consider that cheating, that's what moderation is. For instance, I love making and eating tacos. So this week I made tacos, with regular beef,…
  • I know that if I don't slowly lower my heart rate after a decent cardio session, I get a pounding headache. I have a heart rate monitor now and it helps me avoid that a lot.
