  • I did a medically supervised diet before. You'll feel absolutely amazing as the weight drops off, thrilled with how great you look, promise yourself you'll never get fat again and then you'll beat yourself up and wonder what's wrong with you when you gain it all back. Maybe if you count your calories every day during…
  • That's not what everyone says at all. They say that sugar doesn't matter so when someone asks they tell them it to track something else and the only people who need to worry are people with diabetes. And you have people here eating 120+ grams of sugar a day, most of it added to their "healthy" yogurts, cereals and juices…
  • The sugar limit is for added sugars. The amount of naturally occurring sugars in the average 2,000 calorie diet is 45g so add that to your sugar goal at that should be a good target to stay under each day.
  • What was up with the browning/aging on the inside bit? I'm on board with the amount of sugar we're eating being bad for us but making up nonsense doesn't help.
  • Oh please! You troll low carb posts like it was your job, you were opening this thread no matter what. Was it really that much of a strain for you to read the first sentence and move on? You have NOTHING of merit to add to these threads... ever.
  • Exactly. Some peoples priority is eating cake and not having fat thighs, anything else is beyond them. Don't let them get to you.
  • "However, the loss of muscle is also higher in ketogenic groups. That's what science says." No it doesn't.
  • Very encouraging. My whole family eats a low-ish carb diet (the kids have a lot more beans, nuts and fruit than I do) and you know my mom has diabetes too so I'm going to send her this link. Thanks, AV.
  • Thanks AV. I'm having my blood sugar tested in a few weeks so this is perfect timing and now I know what my numbers should be. My mom has diabetes so it's a concern for me just like you.
  • I thought it was so convincing but I went LCHF instead. http://rawfoodsos.com/2011/07/31/one-year-later-the-china-study-revisited-and-re-bashed/
  • Bump for later!
  • Oh, I agree. In hindsight it's weird how we all seemed to go along with the artery-clogging-saturated-fat thing considering our bodies MAKE saturated fat to use later but all of the news reports made it sound like it was proven and a done deal. I'm just glad I stumbled across the information at last so I could stop…
  • I've never tried it, AV, and now I'm glad I didn't if you want to throw yours away. With work and the kids there's no way I could cook bones for days at a time.
  • Woot! Cheeseburgers for dinner then. Last month salt was good for you, this month red meat? Saturated fat has to be next food that's exonerated. It'll also be interesting to see what, if anything, the media does with this since Meat Kills headlines are so popular.
  • They only appear to be killing themselves with food. As long as they have a good personality and enjoy the junk food with their friends and family that's a good thing. I mean how often are you in the hospital anyway? It's a special occasion! I can't change who my family is (and wouldn't even if I could) but I refuse to let…
  • I'm not a clean eater and my family eats pizza and ice cream and candy. Just not everyday or even every week. It's an occasional indulgence and they know exactly why it's an occasional indulgence because I show them what happens if they eat that stuff everyday. My children can be good hearted and compassionate without…
  • No, I meant pity. I happen to think being fat and sick is a terrible way to live and with junk food normalized and available constantly it's my job to teach them how to eat responsibly.
  • I don't care. We love them and care about them but their choices are making them fat and sick. Live and let live but my children know if they have a bottle of soda in their hand all day they can expect to be an overweight diabetic like Grandmom. Or if they eat like their cousins they can expect a mouth full of cavities…
  • Meh. I teach my kids that junk food isn't everyday food and that too much makes you fat and sick. We even point out the examples of that in our friends and family. They feel bad for the people who don't have good food to eat or don't know any better and that's exactly the way I want it.
  • Well I'm glad all of the parents in this thread are doing a good job feeding their children but it's obviously a problem by the number of threads I see each week from people who need help drinking WATER. FFS, if that's not a basic life skill you should learn as a child I don't know what is.
  • She was giving the GI of sugar in order to compare it to things like whole wheat. I eat low carb because I like the food and how I feel eating it. I don't have any diagnosed medical conditions but when I eat a lot of carbs (even "good carbs" like fruit and whole wheat) I'm always hungry and I'm constantly thinking about…
  • Bump. Everyone always has questions about sugar.
  • I read an article the other day about this. I'm glad the media is moving away from a calorie is a calorie and more towards whole foods though. There are a lot of people who can't stop eating "carbage" and 100 calories snack packs aren't helping them at all.
  • Great information. Thanks!
  • This kind of stuff encourages me to stick with my low carb diet when most of the people around me are saying it's just a fad...it's not healthy...don't deprive myself...it's unsustainable...bla bla bla. Thanks for posting this AV!
  • Find your pelvis, I know you've got one... just LOL. Someone should make gifs.
  • This thread reminds me of this cracked article from a while back. I had no idea that my fresh squeezed, not from concentrate, costs a million dollars a half gallon of orange juice was old juice from a vat and they just add "flavorings" they don't have to list on the ingredient label to make it taste good. Well not…
  • I'm not looking for a debate or anything since you haven't read any of the latest research concerning carbs and disease there's not much point but maybe this blog post (with links) would spark an interest in learning more. These type 2 diabetics who were doing everything the experts predicted would help them are DYING…
