A few things and i was doing keto so this is from direct experience. Most of the anti inflammatory type foods are actually carb based (fibrous fruits and veggies, and beans) and foods high in omega 3s. Second, you can't ignore a dosage response when it comes to sugar. It's only a problem if you crowd out other important…

Definitely agree with this. And being 18, he is prime for muscle gains over fat. No reason to just pack on fat for the sake of gaining weight. And let's face it, it's unlikely, that is what he is thinking would be his ideal body.
-
Agreed!

They are eggscellent for you.

You still have a bit of fat on you. I would lean up more, especially at 187. I am the same height and to get lean (like abs lean), you might need to lose another 20 lbs. I would make sure you are on a structure lifting routine and eating adequate protein.
-
Not yet :'( One day I will get lean enough and then run a bulk.

What did your numbers all look like? Cholesterol is a pretty terrible marker. What did your HDL, LDL, triglycerides, fasting glucose and CRP look like? Also keep in mind that a blood test is a look at a single day and things, like exercise or even fasting can effect results. Second, don't skip cholesterol but make…

It should also be noted that even if you do steroids, maintaining your gains after can become difficult or impossible to maintain. I have heard plenty of testimonials from those on cycles which talk about the disappointment in loss of gains thr longer they are off. Ps- moved to the bodybuilding section. While there hasn't…

The biggest tip is making sure you get enough protein and enough salt. Don't just eat fat for the purposes of burning "fat"; aka oils, butter and dressings all have a ton of calories. And it can be easy to overeat them.
-
It doesn't. Plant based proteins are largely inferior and often required high levels of protein as compared to animal based proteins due to their limitations of L-Luecine which drives muscle protein synthesis. This is according to the #1 and #2 protein metabolism researchers in the world (Dr. Stuart Philips and Dr Brad…

Trending pretty well. Already at 165. Weight has been falling off a bit faster than expected. Been through a few weeks of PT for my glute issues. Have started to incorporate more functional training for my lower body until i alleviate my issues. So not really following anything structured in the gym but still focusing on…

Or at least some pancakes and waffles. They can even be Kodiak pancakes. So protein!!
-
Even then, it's more likely LBM which most is probably water.

I luckily have Les Mills bikes at my gym. I definitely agree that cardio and some flexibility training are key. I also include golf and tennis in my routines. Although, i do lift 5x a week.
-
Before even worrying about supplementation, I would focus on getting on a well structure lifting: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10332083/which-lifting-program-is-the-best-for-you/p1 Second, protein vs carbs. Both have their importance. Protein can support muscle retention and a strong body. Carbs have…

The thing to consider is that lifting keeps you strong. Strong bodies are more resilient. Muscle weakness is one of the major reasons why old people get injured.

Keto is low carb, but not all low carb is keto. Keto is sub 50g so your body produces and utilities ketones for fuel. Low carb is below 140g of carbs. OP, the worse thing you can do it just add a bunch of fat. Focus on carb restriction, get adequate protein (1.5-2.2g/kg), consume fibrous veggies and get adequate sodium. I…

For optimal muscle growth, a surplus is required but you will gain fat. You can recomp, but its slow but will keep at bay any fat gains; things months to years. You can gain some muscle in a deficit while losing fat, but it won't be a lot and will taper off quickly. If you want to lean out, stay in a deficit, get around…

From a dietary perspective, having a varied diet, which can contain animal products and plant based foods, while maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle are the best things to help longevity. And Intermittent fasting and being vegan won't guarantee you live any longer, regardless of some of the claims. One big factor…

Semantically, carbs rarely store in adipose. Even in overfeed studies, its really only 3% iirc. Healthy fats are important for hormonal healthy and are beneficial but they aren't magic.
-
Agreed, but i still prefer skinless chicken thighs. Much more tasty. :p

To add, if anyone wants to know who to trust, its Dr. Stuart Phillips and Dr. Brad Schoenfeld. They are the #1 and 2 protein metabolism researchers in the world.

Dr. Layne Norton just posted some data even if it is someone with Diabetes. I'd recommend they look at the discussion of the meta analyses on the subject. Sorry OP. https://www.instagram.com/p/CE5CA6kpBYx/?igshid=4os5sqj9clbx

Your muscles are literally made up of proteins. This is just non sense. And how are your measuring your body fat?
-
My current goal is 170g protein and 30g fiber at 2000 calories or less. I don't have a goal for fat or carb. Low carb high protein french toast

Riding the struggle bus lately with vacations and life (thanks to virtual school). Setting a Halloween cut goal of 7 lbs (163 lbs). I did hit back to 170 after my weekend away. I am sure some is glycogen, water and food volume. After that, i should be about 3/4 lb a week weight loss. Diet wise, i am only focusing on…

Came off of keto. Decided to move more towards a high protein/high fiber diet. Its going to more low carb. With how busy life has been and the lack of performance in the gym, i decided additional carbs would help.

Perhaps she should get some blood work. But also tracking her intake naturally to start will give us a better understanding. Right now, there isn't much data to make a recommendation outside of talking to a doctor to see if there is a deficiency. She could try to eat a bit more salt to see if that helps.

Dizziness is often related to electrolyte imbalances. Do you dramatically cut carbs and/or sodium while you diet? How many calories fo you aim to eat? And what does your exercise routine look like?
-
As noted above, when low carbs, your body will reduce glycogen and insulin levels which will cause a loss of electrolytes. This is why people get keto flu. Sodium is only necessarily bad if you have hypertension. I regularly maintain 5000mg of sodium while I do Keto. I had a rhr of 55 and a bp of 105/60. The associations…
