  • That's it. I have to make a run to Wegmans. It almost odd how good Quest tastes. A little thick but I only use it half a serving at the time. It has taken my oatmeal to whole new level.
  • At this point, I'm pretty sure its pure trolling. I don't believe that he is an athlete at any level, and I don't really believe that he has any particular feelings about anything related to nutrition or performance unless its food for attention and starting or sustaining an argument.
  • Thank you for clarifying this. I was absolutely baffled at where such mind-boggling wrongness could possibly be coming from.
  • ^^ yeah, if she doesn't wonder what it is while you're cooking it, she either out of the house, or has a head cold.
  • Just because they companies don't have to label it by law, doesn't mean they don't know. There are several companies that compile and sell nutrition data for packaged products. My guess is that Fooducate is either buying one of those databases, or compiling their own by gathering data directly from food manufacturers.
  • This is quite silly. Its disturbing to think that you could have learned this at any accredited college. The glycemic index of fructose does not change depending on its source. High fructose corn syrup is a blend of fructose and glucose, and its glycemic index depends on the ratio of fructose to glucose in it. The higher…
  • This was a proposed new regulation last year but as of now, labels only list total sugar; they don't have to break out added sugar separately (in the U.S.).
  • Given that this is the second time I'm losing a ridiculous amount of weight, I think this is my future path as well. Although I did keep it off the first time for about 8 years before it started creeping up again. But I don't want to have to be dealing with this again when I'm 60. Better just to make a habit of paying…
  • This thread is sad. I hope the OP starts another one if she still wants advice.
  • Hey there. Also in central. Welcome back!
  • The first thing that they usually try is reducing water retention through lowering sodium and also losing weight. Macronutrient balance is not a factor as far as I know, except inasmuch as it supports weight loss or relates to sodium consumption. In other words, its very likely that if your blood pressure shot up, it was…
  • Did you miss the sugar, flour, oil, cocoa, corn syrup and vanillin? Those were the yummy words. Although I do prefer vanilla to vanillin and butter to oil most times. But oil is probably better for oreos.
  • Anybody with this many food rules is a person that I, personally, would not even try to engage in food-related conversation. If put on the spot, I'd pick one point and pound it with the hammer of science until it cracked. If I was in a contrary mood (50% probability) I'd then pick one other point and repeat until bored.
  • You must be mistaken. Everyone knows that weight lifters are the friendliest, most supportive, best-behaved, and most non-judgmental people in every gym. What are you doing wrong?
  • Unlike so many "natural" medicines, there actually is some body of evidence that the curcumin in turmeric may work as an anti-inflammatory drug. It hasn't really been well tested in humans at this point. But I try not to dismiss old wives tales entirely without at least checking the research. Its amazing what old wives…
  • ok, but had you come trying to gather vegetables on my family's farm 100 years ago, you would have gotten plenty of extra exercise right quick. Pretty sure you wouldn't have found a lot of broccoli and lettuce that somebody didn't plant either. And if you tried to gather the milk, I'm not sure if you'd be better off with…
  • If your scale is giving you tenths of an ounce, and you're logging that way, then the margin of error is a lot smaller than if it only weighed in half-ounce or ounce increments. Given that the whole system is kind of inherently one estimate after another, I'd say don't worry about it until/unless you stop losing weight…
  • Makes a nice salad on occasion, but its best with a little goat cheese, flavored balsamic and nuts. If I never had it again, I think I'd live.
  • contratulations! good going there :)
  • There are entries for cooked and raw, for each kind of meat. If you can weigh it raw its a little more accurate because the amount of water/moisture in it can vary after its cooked. But often its not convenient to weigh one portion raw if you're making a dish or if the meat has bones in it. As long as you choose the entry…
  • I don't know if your pedometer is likely to be accurate, but most cardio machines are programmed to greatly overestimate calorie burns. It encourages people to buy and use them.
  • Well, that's one way to plan meals. The only downside I see is that there are things I wouldn't want to leave unrefrigerated, and other things that I wouldn't want to refrigerate. I'd need at least two boxes. But by the time I knew what was going into the box, I would have pre-logged it anyway, so I just stuck to my list,…
  • I was at 44. I think it was around 48 that some of those numbers started to change.
  • Its fine to let your partner know you are concerned about their health. Its not fine to tell a woman that you supposedly love that she's fat and needs to lose weight to keep your love. The distinction can be a fine one and only you and she know for sure where this is landing. Of course, she shouldn't be doing it "just for…
  • Protein powder. Quest makes on that they market specifically for baking. Its unflavored.
  • You made me laugh. If you don't like them, that why on earth are you eating them? :)
  • I suppose I should have said more precisely: based on the studies cited, I don't think we can say that repeated intermittent fasting for periods of less than 24 hours is associated with health benefits. I say this because the cited studies don't address this behavior. You may well know that it is, if you have more…
  • I would say that it means that after a certain point, you should probably stop exercising so much, assuming the exercise is voluntary and not due to manual labor. Otherwise you may experience some undesirable adaptations in autonomic systems. The study also seems to indicate that many people will automatically try to…
  • A cushioned shoe can help absorb impact, but if you're worried about knees or whatever else was previously injured, then yes, of course do the modified moves. See how it goes. Also, keep in mind that you can get a very intense low impact workout on an elliptical machine or bike (stationary or not) too. The best thing to do…
  • I just want to point out that among the citations in that article, those that link to single studies all involve fasting intervals between 24 hours and 5 days. Usually when people talk about IF (I think), they speak more about eating over only a portion of a day, like the OP. So I've no idea how that kind of IF would…
