Unfortunately it's not always clear. For example, some items in the MFP database specify raw or cooked, and some do not. When I don't have a clear answer, I weigh meat cooked, just to be consistent, but sometimes there's no way to know for sure.

I have a Cuisinart Blender/Processor combo that was like 100 bucks and hasn't failed me yet. It obliterates the ice. For more exhaustive info: http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-blender/ (scroll to the end for the "budget" category) Another random option: I'm obsessed with snow cones and the like, so I can tell you that…

Fair warning: any topics related to "Does organic matter" or "Are artificial sweeteners" toxic create a **** storm on here. Anyway. No, you should not use artificial sweeteners, because they might be toxic, and even if in ten years they're found to definitively be totally safe, why take the chance now? My first tip is to…

You should aim to eat your weight in protein every day. If you're not achieving that, protein powder can definitely help. Not sure what you weigh or what you're eating for pre/post workout meals either, but here's what you should eat pre/post workout: Workout Nutrition Pre-Workout 60-90min pre-workout solid meal .25g…

In NYC any establishment with Two or more locations has to post the calories next to each item. Not sure about anywhere else.

To give a male perspective. It sounds like you're putting too much faith in women making the first move. Society has a come a long way in terms of gender equality and all that, but 99% of the time, the guy is still going to be the one to initiate the first conversation. You live in Chicago so you should have a lot of…

My advice is avoid them completely. The entire concept is unhealthy. Best case scenario the worst thing you'll get is toxic artificial sweeteners, but it's likely the chemicals those things are filled with will be even worse than those. Make your own protein shakes, or eat real, whole foods. Plus it's cheaper too.

This. That being said, I value passion, trust, and comfort above all else in a relationship, and not letting myself go, or her not letting herself go, is antithetical to all of that for me. Does that mean I want her to go around farting constantly? No, because that's ridiculous. But if we only had one bathroom and I was in…

I started less than a month ago, and am certainly no good at it, but it's the most fun I've had exercising without a doubt.

This is the formula I use below. As far as calculating your calorie target goes, use one of the calculators like MFP, then adjust based on your weight loss. Example, you're eating 1500 and not losing/gaining, drop to 1300. Drop to 1300 and you're losing too fast, jump back up to 1400. As for refined sugar, yeah, avoid it…

Wow I just read that and I am burning a lot of calories, haha.

It doesn't matter what time of day you eat anything, except in relation to working out. The importance of the timing of eating, how many meals a day, breakfast being important, not eating at night, etc. are all myths.

No, they are all scams.

1. I'm inclined to agree with that, but I didn't say otherwise to begin with. 2. "There is less of an effect from sugar alcohols than either sugar or starch."- American Diabetes Association (and all other organizations) 3. I didn't say calories, I said carbs. From the American Diabetes Association again: If a food has more…

Good luck! Cheese is not bad for you in moderation, but if you're trouble with portion control that's understandable, because cheese is Good. Be careful with Subway, you can easily end up with massive amounts of Calories, Carbs, and Sodium from there.

Indeed. I've been trying to make myself like Stevia, but in stuff like coffee it's just not working for me. I'm trying Nectresse next, here's hoping. http://www.nectresse.com

Thank you. I'm wondering how many more people are going to fail to read that difference correctly in this thread.

This is not even close to accurate. For one, several of those are toxic, like aspartame. HFCS is under fire for a reason. Fiber has a completely different effect than sugar. Sugar alcohols do not effect blood sugar, and what's more are not fully metabolized, you can actually subtract a percentage of the carbs from the…

Artificial is not the opposite of naturally occurring. Artificial is the opposite of natural. And added sugar from apple juice and cane juice are both bad. We aren't talking about the toxicity of the sugar/sweetener, we're talking about things that are added to a product to make them taste better vs. things that occur in…

Not counting things defeats the purpose of using a calorie counter. I personally feel that WW allows people to not count fruits and veggies because they don't think their audience is capable of dieting without basically being able to eat an unlimited amount of food (fruits and veggies).

Two of the biggest flaws with MFP are 1) That the protein goal is critically low, and 2) The way it accounts for sugar The second issue is not entirely MFP's fault. Nutrition labels don't differentiate for naturally occurring sugar, such as in fruit or milk, so when you eat a banana it looks like you've practically gone…
