  • Soy milk, steamed mixed vegetables, greek yogurt, hummus, nuts (though these are high in fat/calories vs the protein), edamame, etc. Vegetables have a surprising amount of protein for those who don't want to rely solely on beans. If you have a Target, they have new freeze dried peas and edamame with a lot of protein. They…
  • Agreed. General public does not understand the difference between organic and natural, and a host of other terms and issues (haha I'm sure people get into so many of these here).
  • This ^^^ Thanks for brilliantly wording what I was trying to say!
  • Also, most of the e-coli scares (at least the spinach one) was caused by deer feces that were in the water/irrigation of the farms. The product wasn't washed well, etc, not caused by manure fertilizer. Source: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44204554/ns/health-infectious_diseases/t/deer-droppings-proven-cause-e-coli-outbreak/
  • I agree with those points, that frozen vegetables are better/easier and eating locally/organically is hard. I think eating local "saves" more of the environment than just blanket terms of "organic." Read "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" for a look at a "localvore" for a year. It's expensive and difficult but rewarding too.
  • Watch Food, Inc, Super Size Me, etc. I agree that it's not sustainable for the entire world to eat organic but it's also not sustainable for the entire world to eat meat. http://www.ajcn.org/content/78/3/660S.full I disagree that organic farming takes more room as farming had almost left MA but now is coming back with…
  • I haven't done the others but Zumba seems to be just cardio. The actual instruction involves tightening muscles but most of the instructors do not teach it that way, they focus more on it as a dance class. I think it's a good way to get cardio for people who like to dance or don't like to do traditional cardio. I got a…
  • I freaking love ice cream. I make sure to measure it and I have small bowls that perfectly fit 1 cup so I don't splurge too much. I also try to buy the slow churned or frozen yogurt, but only in the flavors I like because I want to enjoy it! I also find that I can portion Ben and Jerry's well because I can visualize the…
  • Crock Pot Potato Cheese Soup was posted earlier and is vegetarian. I find that most vegan/veg crock pot recipes (especially those with white beans) can't cook as long as a chicken or meat dish. The beans will breakdown too far and most meat subs will dry out. I make white bean kale soup on the stove and it takes only 1hr…
  • They taste initially like noodles but chew like rubber. They have a rubber plastic-y texture when you chew that ruins them. I found them at all grocery stores in my area in the refrigerator tofu section (near salads).
  • Are you measuring your food? August 10th, you had a bunch of different chain restaurant meals but I find that those are usually unaccurate. I try to "guestimate" as much as possible but usually overestimate to compensate for the inaccurate information. If I cook something, I enter the exact measurements and use measuring…
  • I like to donate or consign them. Some stores in my area give you cash on the spot. As for bras that are too large, you can buy hooks at fabric stores and sew those on the bands. I have never done it but if you have expensive bras, it would be good to do.
  • I checked out your diet for a few days, going back just to see what the average is (I've had a bad weekend of cocktails and fun ;) ), just seems like a lot but I agree that 1200 isn't very realistic for some people especially active ones. I liked your day on August 9th, but if you cut out some of the added snacks you'd get…
  • Yeah unfortunately apples and bananas are high but I think the general consensus on MFP is fruit sugar is ok and processed food sugar is bad or less ok. I usually go over sugar but if it's from my appletini and not an apple, that's more of an issue. ;) Some people track fiber instead of sugar on MFP for this reason.
  • Yeah I think you need a more generally healthy diet. I see things like TGI Friday's Pina Colada but not TGI Friday's food. I find that you can't mix and match, i.e. all pina colada's are different. If you make something, I try to enter the ingredients. I've had a rough couple weeks so my diet isn't perfect either but I…
  • Love greek yogurt in the late afternoon. Hummus and veggies? Or even easier, those Sabra hummus with pretzel combos.
  • Obviously hear for you too!!! I'm trying to stick with this for my BF, getting healthier and also sticking with portion control. Too bad for the Panera cookie I had at lunch. :(
  • I made the Hungry Girl fettuccine and mac n' cheese with two types of them and hated both. I tried to drain and towel them off but it was very hard to get them dry. Even still, they tasted really rubbery and plasticy. I was very disappointed because the sauces were delicious and if the pasta wasn't so "chewy/squeaky" it…
  • Ick, clogs the pores forcing you to wear more makeup... Vicious cycle... If it's some kind of Muscle magazine, maybe these people are in a competition or something where makeup is necessary? I think a good primer and a setting spray would work well over most makeup if you needed it to stay, same with hot weather. I think…
  • I like Smart Ones or Michelina's Lean Gourmet Mac N Cheese but they have around 300 calories which is the same as a serving of the box mac cheese. I also agree about adding veggies to the box to make it more filling. Broccoli and peas work well! My mom makes it from scratch with no butter, skim milk and reduced fat cheese…
  • I did this diet a few months ago. I saw only 4lb weight loss and it was so boring that I just gained it all back the first day I was off. Then I ate normally, with more focus on fresh foods, for a few weeks and my weight went lower than with the "diet."…
  • That seems like a high amount of calories, but then again I have a sedentary job and don't work out. How tall are you? From the "quick" calculators online, it seems like 2000-2200 would be an appropriate range. From most of the posts I've seen, it's more about the quality of the food, than the quantity, though I'm not an…
  • Agreed. I did a 7 day detox where you only ate certain foods, then regained all the weight in one day (probably just water weight haha)! I've lost more just sticking with my calorie goals and I can enjoy foods I want, instead of craving and obsessing over them for seven days, then binging at the end. I agree with Sidesteal…
  • I love the South Beach spinach/veggie cups. Made with egg whites/substitute and frozen veggies. They are an easy and filling snack/meal!
  • I have two types of Sigg bottles with workout (not just screw off) tops on them. One holds 16 oz and the other 32. I fill up the small one 3-4 times a day, and the big twice, depending on which one I brought. I also find if I use 1/2 packet of crystal lite (I like Archer Farms Strawberry Lemonade or Rasp Lime from Target)…
  • Pasta and nuts look like they weighed down your diet plan this week. My BF and I are doing this together and we usually snack on light popcorn, cut veggies, etc. If you eat a cut pepper and hummus, it's filling with protein too instead of just protein and fat of almonds. I also am starting to give up on pasta unless I also…
  • A few people in our office have stability balls but can't seem to sit on them all day. A couple of offices are my clients have their desks raised for standing work instead of sitting. We don't even have our own cubes (check into a free one whenever we're in) so I would love my own office to work out in!
  • No meat, less processed foods, bulk, etc. We bought a whole cart of "healthy" choices and non-processed foods, think more veggies, simple switches from what you normally buy, and no meat. I'm vegetarian so it's easy. If you research budget foods, many of them are healthy such as buying bulk dried beans and soaking them…
