  • EEEEEEK. I went to a Cuban birthday party yesterday.....so I;m up 1 lb. Which is actually not bad. It could've been much much worse. Starting weight :136.2 3/19 137.2 3/25 3/31
  • After gaining 10 lbs in the last year, I need to get serious. I started going back to the gym last week and watching what I eat and I'm already down 1 lb. Starting weight 136.2 March goal 132 End goal 105. Good luck to everyone!
  • You should always include some sort of fat like olive oil in your salad dressing (unless you're already including some other fat source in the salad) because fat really helps your body to absorb all the nutrients in the salad and veggies. I like to drizzle mix 1 teaspoon of olive oil with balsamic vinegar, mustard, and…
  • Not avoiding it per se, but I'm shifting my proportions to half of the plate being veggies, with 1/4 starchy carbs. So I just have to watch how much of it I eat.
  • South Florida, born in Cuba.
  • I read the beginning of the article, and the first reason it gives for doing weight training first makes perfect sense, and it's actually the reason I do weight training first. With weight training, you really do want to be at your best when you tackle the weights. You don't want to be doing your reps when you're pooped…
  • So doing cardio before weights is key? I always do weights first because I don't like cardio much, but if it will help me to lose fat faster I might change. Any data to back this up?
  • Great Idea. Just for today I will try to finally reach that 10,000 gal on my walking app.
  • And regarding the whole treadmill debate, if you don;t have a gym a treadmill is a great idea. It's way easier on your joints and bones than running on pavement is. A few years ago I started running on the street and after a few weeks I could barely walk 15 minutes without my knee hurting a ton. So far I've had no problems…
  • Try the Pacer App. I got it initially to count my steps since I can't really afford those nifty fitness counters. But if you upgrade to the premium version they have some walking and running programs. You can try the walking one and then go to the walking to running one. That one starts you off at one minute light jogging…
  • I think because when you initially do the setup it already asks you if you are breastfeeding, so you are probably already getting a higher allowance, but you might want to double check that.
  • Well, considering that I can barely do 30 seconds of running, I think it's safe to say I am in bad shape. I've been working on the treadmill because it's what I least dread. Today I did 20 minutes alternating 30 sec of run g at 5.0 with about a minute at 3.5.
  • They rarely do vertical now, even in emergencies. It's reserved for need to get them out right this second type of emergencies.
  • This. You can have narrow hips but have a wider pelvic opening than someone with wider hips. It's not that simple.
  • I agree! I don't plan on tracking forever, so I find the tips really helpful, especially how to slowly transition from logging to non logging.
  • It's been true in my experience. I'm losing but somehow my belly feels more saggy and just there. My hypothesis is that I tend to hold on to my belly weight so when you first start losing the other parts of me get slimmer but the belly is more stubborn. Hence it's going to look bigger in comparison even though it's still…
  • Yeah, I mean, if that's all he eats all the time that's extremely unhealthy. Maybe you guys can try bonding by trying some new recipes and cooking together. And let him know what it wouldn't hurt him if he tries eating a bit less junk.
  • The scientifican american article talks about a study that talks about why artificial sweeteners might not be the best.
  • Do you actually prefer the taste of Diet Coke? If not, try cutting back on them and then replacing them with the real deal once every few days, as a treat. Personally, I prefer real sugar as opposed to artificial sweeteners. I think in moderation it's always best to have the real deal then something made in a lab. Real…
  • Hang in there. At first you will be hungry, but if you stick to it you will find that your body will get used to the new portions. Yesterday I went over by 161 calories and I actually felt uncomfortably full. When I'm hungry at night it helps to acknowledge it, and then just say, tomorrow if I am still starving in the…
  • Yeap, we need balance on both sides of the fence. Sugar is not crack, BUT most of us are eating too much of it and would benefit from cutting back.
  • Nothing wrong with cutting back on sugar. You don't have to cut it out completely, but too much sugar is not good for you either. I suggest you log your calories for a week and see where you are getting most of your sugar from. I used to put two heaping teaspoons of sugar in my coffee and now I only put one. I don't worry…
  • Oh, that sounds yummy! Thanks for the recipe!
  • You can actually get really nice pieces at Goodwill. I mostly shop there now and have found great shoes, purses, and clothes from really nice name brands.
  • Preach it boy!
  • For some people it represents a level of neurosis that they are not comfortable with. I can't speak for anyone esle, but personally I want to develop a system that I can use anywhere FOREVER. I'm pretty tiny so even my TDEE is only around 1300 so I need to learn what a normal portion is for me without having to rely on a…
  • That is why I usually put a bit over what I think I'm having. If my estimate is that I am having 2 oz of meat, I will put 2.5 or something like that. I do this with almost everything that isn't a unit or standard (like cookies or 8 oz of whole milk). People do need to be aware that not weighing is not as accurate and that…
  • Oh you are definitely right. But you don't always need to be that accurate. The point is that what you may need to lose weight and maintain sanity and what someone else may need are two different things. I've been able to lose weight without weighing, and it works for me. I don't see anywhere that the OP has stated that…
  • Never heard of it. If you need a kick start a specific diet isn't bad per se, but you need to have a plan for afterwards. Are you going to go back to things as usual? That's probably going to cause you to gain the weight back and then everything will have been for naught.
