  • Thanks! Yes I agree on cutting out the processed foods. I do hate counting calories, but the doctor I go to had set specific perimeters for calories, protein, carbs, etc. So I was going along with it so they will see that it's not working. Over the past year, I have tried many different things sometimes counting calories…
  • I had lapband surgery in 2014. I had lost close to 50 lbs, but have gained some back this year due to a car accident I had early in the year that caused a foot injury that prevented me from doing exercise. I let stress on top of that influence bad food choices. I'm trying to get back on track now. Glad I found this group.…
  • Thanks for the responses. I have been looking at the fitbit products for a while. I think I may wait for the fitbit force to come back out. I liked the features it had. Until then, I'll just keep using my pedometer app. I do have a Polar FT7 that I use when doing other cardio exercises.
  • Thanks everyone for the advice. I noticed many of you brought up pizza, LOL! Most often I am ordering more than just enough for me because my husband loves it, and fortunately for him, he has never had a weight problem. He is always open to trying healthier options so I may just have to tell him we are going to forgo the…
  • I just had the lapband surgery on Jan. 7th. I was the same. I had tried many diets, personal trainers, etc and never could lose more that 10 lbs. I'm just starting this new journey, but feel free to add me. I've been keeping blogs since I started on myfitnesspal.
  • I often have this question. I have been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and have tried eating 1200 calories. Even with exercise I'm lucky if I can get off 1 pound a week. I know even the doctor says that they don't encourage eating less than 1200 calories because if you body gets less than that you can go into starvation…
  • I have been looking at this device as well as the fitbit flex, and some of the other newer devices on the market. I like the bracelet format in that it will remind me to move. I've had one of the other devices that you had to clip somewhere it would easily be forgotten through out the day. I've just recently came across…
  • I am looking into both of these myself. I had a fitbit one and liked the features, but I often forgot about it. I would have it on my bra or pants and when they came off, it would too. I sold it on ebay, and am now looking into the flex or jawbone. I have a desk job and I want something more visible to remind me to move,…
  • I am in the same boat as you minus the children. I slowly have become overweight through out my 20's. Now into my 30's I've tried the last 5 years or so to really focus on exercise and diet and lose the weight with not much success. I was not interested in the lapband procedure until the last year or so, realizing my…
  • I'm 5'3 and I've been eating 1200-1500 calories most days. I do have a splurge day about once a week. I've been using the site since July and have lost about 7 lbs. Not very much compared to some, but something. My weight tends to fluctuate a lot, so I'm still trying to figure out what works for me.
  • After calling a couple stores in my area, one rep told me they are having problems with their systems showing items that are available online that they don't have in the store. Looks like I will have to get in line with the pre orders on the fitbit website :(
  • Have you received your fitbit one from best buy? I pulled up my local best buy on their website and they showed they had them in stock. I went there to get one, but they kept telling me the ultra was all they had. I was so disappointed.
  • Thanks, I will check it out.
  • Thanks for all the feedback about this topic. I am leaning towards getting the HRM and the cheaper fitbit zip. Perhaps with both of these I can get an accurate count of calories burned and see how active I am.
  • Thanks for your input. From what I can tell, the big difference between the ultra and zip is that the ultra tracks sleep. Do you find the sleep tracking as beneficial?
  • I've been drinking the almond/coconut milk that Blue Diamond makes. It's 40 calories for the unsweetened and 60 calories for the sweetened one. Both are great to me. I like it better than the plain almond milk.
  • It is hard, but the key is to make changes you can live with. Don't eat what you don't like, but sometimes by trying new things, you may find things you do like that could replace some of the not-so-good for you things. Here's some of my staples that I use for some of the things you were asking about: Bread: Nature's Own…

  • You have the option of eating the calories you burn during workouts back. I recommend that you aim not to, especially in the beginning until you see how you do.
  • I just started yesterday and put it in as calisthenics-moderate, vigorous on MFP.
  • I came across the 30 day shred videos on youtube. My thinking is that if I can get through 30 days doing this program, it will help me develop the habit of working out regularly. I'm glad to find others taking on this challenge!
  • I took Adipex (which is a phentermine) for about 3 months last year. It was great for appetite suppression and increased energy, but it did make me have anxiety at times. I cut down to 1/2 pill and that seemed to do well. Overall I lost 10 lbs, but after I quit taking it, I gradually gained those 10 lbs back. My doctor had…
  • This very thing is one of my big problems. Having only been overweight as an adult, I often picture myself a lot thinner in my head than I appear in photos or even the mirror. Sometimes, even when I'm feeling confident, thinking I look one way-I then see the pictures and am like WHAT??? That's what I looked like. Here…
  • I think the key here is to be that confident person regardless what size you are. Many times it's the confidence that makes people notice. If you are acting and carrying yourself as the "fat" girl, then that is how people are going to react to you even though you are not that anymore. As for the body shape and clothes, yes…
  • Yes, you do have a choice of what you put into your body, but I don’t think anyone wants to be overweight. Many factors can play into being overweight, genetics, hormones, and environment. That’s why someone that is 5’6, 130 lbs can eat a whole pizza and not gain weight and others can just have ½ of that pizza and gain 5…
  • I am going to make a goal to be under 200 lbs by Halloween. I'm at 213 now, so I think this should be enough time to make that goal as long as I stay on track. Good Luck everyone!
  • After meeting with the doctor today, it looks like this is not an option to consider right now. I do not qualify because I'm not 100 lbs over weight and my doctor doesn't seem to be a big supporter of the surgery unless you are having other medical issues. As of now, besides my weight, I am healthy. My doctor is referring…
  • Thanks for sharing your story. This is amazing and just the inspiration I am needing. Can you share your exercise regimen? Thanks
