  • Haggis, in Scotland ... though I tried not to chew. Oh my word.
  • 'Just?' -- what a horrible, candle-snuffin' word. (Finding Neverland)
  • I totally count my herbal tea. I don't count coffee, even though Denise Austin does on her plan, I think. Other than that, I have a huge water bottle that I carry around all day. I feel so much better when I am good about it, it's self-motivating.
  • ^^^^ THIS! (But before I figured this out, I ate it on graham crackers with itty bitty marshmallows arranged neatly on top. While arranging the marshmallows, of course, my spoon would continue its dangerous journey back and forth between the jar and my mouth. Argh.)
  • "I Will Be Here" by Steven Curtis Chapman, and "Fly Me to the Moon" by Sinatra. Another song we liked but didn't wind up using was "Say Once More" by Amy Grant. Our 20th will be in December! Danced with my daddy to Unforgettable. Wonderful memory ... he passed away just a few years later, so that song always gets…
  • I record my workouts, but I stick to 1400 calories consumed, regardless. (I burn between 300 and 500 calories, depending on the day and the workout). This helps me on my weekends, when I don't exercise. When I was eating back my calories (my base intake was set at 1200 at the time), it was really hard to cut back on those…
  • I've used Leslie Sansone, Denise Austin, Jillian (30 Day Shred), Kathy Smith, and Tae Bo with Billy Blanks. They've all got their pros and cons (frankly, I couldn't stand the voices of Leslie and Denise after awhile). But the best series I have ever used is The Firm. I have the set that comes with the Transfirmer steps…
  • Lauren Graham -- but since I'm only 5'4" I don't think that's going to happen. I also like the redheaded girl on The Mentalist. Probably also too tall... Both of those girls seem to strike the balance between fit and feminine. I'm aiming for toned but not "ripped;" curvy, but not jiggly.
  • I think the closest thing to a "right" reason is for women who have radical mastectomies. I know it's frustrating to be flat-chested (I lost two cups sizes after having my babies and losing weight). But honestly, there are ways to dress that can make you look and feel more feminine -- and I love my slightly-padded bras!…
  • Finding Neverland I Am Sam Up (best love story EVER ... and yes, I do mean the animated Pixar movie.) The Help (edited to add, after reading through everyone else's -- it reminded me of more!): Shawshank Redemption Passion of the Christ Edward Scissorhands What's Eating Gilbert Grape Toy Story 3 A Walk to Remember Seven…
  • I agree with everyone's suggestion to eat more protein. Also, when I feel empty and water just isn't cutting it, I make hot tea. Zero calories but lots of flavor, and something about the warmth really fools my belly! Also, there are several types of teas that contribute to your overall health (like green tea, blueberry,…
  • Really good point. I think some people reacted horribly to the pics of the skinny women -- with "eww," etc. But I definitely agree with you that the "ideal" for today seems to be un-curvy. And, speaking as someone with curves, I would have to have my hipbones shaved or filed down or something to achieve that look! On the…
  • Amen. I especially agree with you on your point that it's women who are tearing down other women! So sad. I think any time an image is presented as what a woman "must" be, it is damaging. Rather than criticizing a woman as she is, no matter what size, how about we get vocal with the magazine and billboard companies that…
  • Both. I usually have coffee, yogurt, and a few almonds before; I eat my regular breakfast (oatmeal, fruit, and more coffee) afterwards.
  • Much of Indian food is really healthy -- but avoid anything that mentions coconut, since they usually add heavy cream to the coconut milk. Bad, bad, bad! You could try googling "how to survive indian restaurant" or go on Eat This, Not That and see if they have any general guidelines for Indian cuisine.
  • Completely depends on the individual. I am fuzzy brained and fatigued if I get fewer than eight. My husband is perfectly fine with six. My sister absolutely cannot force herself to sleep longer than five. And we're all healthy, and roughly the same age (42, 46, 44, respectively).
  • Well, I was going to say oatmeal, since I love it -- but since you don't, I'd suggest high fiber English muffins or sandwich thins, toasted, with a smear of almond or nut butter. You can top the nut butter with some kind of fresh fruit, like slices of banana or a few berries. You want to make sure you're getting as much…
  • The scent of vanilla is also a great antidote to stress, which can ward off stress-related eating. =D
  • So true! (FYI - I have a friend who did the injections, and she was thrilled with her weight loss...until she started losing her hair. The gimmicky diets all have huge downsides, and -- as you said -- they don't teach you how to live the lifestyle.) (And here's something I was thinking earlier today: The Hungry Girl is…
  • I don't think heat burns extra calories -- if you're sweating, it's only water (which I hope you're replacing by drinking lots! I used to live in Fresno, so I feel for you!). I wouldn't try to compute it anyway. Like others have said -- just let it be a bonus and get to your goal a wee bit quicker.

  • I used to drink diet Coke like crazy. I can't speak directly to whether or not it affected my cravings, since almost anything triggers cravings for me (boredom, stress, frustration, exhaustion...). All I know for sure is that I feel MUCH better now that I don't touch the stuff.
  • I looked into Mederma, and it's apparently for "fresh" stretch marks. Yeah ... none of mine are fresh! I wish I didn't have them, but I'm learning to live with them. I try to make sure I get enough water, and I recently started using Palmer's. Even if it doesn't reduce the marks, I love the softness and firmness I'm…
