  • Instead of switching when you get fatigued, start with double over with your warm up and then switch to over under and build from there. I recently read an article about increasing grip strength, I think it was on Bodybuilding.com, you can probably google it. It had some really good simple exercises.
  • When I first started doing deadlifts I had the same problem, my solution was working on my grip strength. What kind of grip are you using? If you're doing double over, you should probably switch it up to over/under or use straps. Also gloves are not good for deadlifting since they tend do decrease grip strength. One of the…
  • I work full-time, do volunteer work, help out with elderly grandmother and belong to a professional women's social group and make it to the gym 5 days a week, the other 2 days, I do mobility/yoga. This schedule forces me to be extremely organized. My training partner works full-time, in the process of getting her doctorate…
  • I love Nostimo, but if Fage is on sale, I will "treat" myself. I stick with plain, to avoid extra sugar. I hate Oikos, not even sure you can call that stuff greek yogurt.
  • Wear underwear instead of going commando when I workout
  • No, you're not in the wrong group, just the wrong gym. When I checked out the PF in my area, their barbells only went up to 80lbs and they only had one smith machine, which they claimed was just as good for doing deadlifts, which I guess is good, since most PF won't even allow deadlifts. Because I lift heavy, I may be…
  • I'm a powerlifter, so basically I am not welcome at Planet Fitness, but if you are serious about lifting, such as the Stronglifts program, you will need to find another gym, like a Golds or even Club Fitness if you have them in your area. But if you insist on staying at Planet Fitness, I get it, $10/month, then check out…
  • Yes there are always anomalies, but this is not something I made up, this is research I did when I decided to start heavy lifting and talking with other lifters and trainers. I'm not eating a big meal, just something that gives me some extra energy to lift the heavy things. If lifting in a fasted state works for you, then…
  • I'm exhausted on strength days, I consider that to be a good thing. ETA: After seeing MireyGal76's post, I wanted to add I do make sure I get enough calories before my workout, protein bar or a BCAA pre-workout. You should never lifted in a fasted state.
  • Free programs would include Fitness Blender, Body Rock, & Be Fit, they are all on YouTube. They are varying lengths. Then there's always Beachbody programs, Insanity, Turbo Fire, Focus T25, etc. They just started a streaming service.
  • Another reason I decided to turn off my notification besides my boring diary, but on days where I didn't eat enough, because I was busy or sick or whatever, I would have people give me "Likes" or "WTG" or "Great Day" and I'm thinking did you actually look at my diary or do you think its good that I only ate 1,000 calories?…
  • I just read somewhere (too lazy to look it up) that thanks to good old American fast food, obesity rates in Asia are starting rise. I love Asian food and used their traditional diet of rice and veggies along with lean protein to help me lose a ton of weight.
  • Mine isn't technically locked to my friends, I just turned off the notification when I complete my diary for the day, whether they can still see it or not, I don't know. Because I am no longer in weight loss mode, but mostly maintenance while trying to build muscle and track my macros more than actual calories, so I tend…
  • Let's just hope their customer service isn't as "friendly" as Comcast.
  • I second BeFit and Fitness Blender on YouTube, also check out BodyRock. I believe Daily Burn has a 30 day free trial. Do the free trial, along with the free You Tube offerings and see what you like best. If it fits your needs, then its worth it.
  • Yeah, Insanity is a tough mother. I completed the program last fall before my vacation (just finally got my t-shirt), I still do workouts once a week and am surprised that I still find it difficult to get through a workout. I've done most of J. Michaels, Turbo Fire and T25, have no problem getting through them without…

  • Ummmm, but the squat rack is INSIDE.
  • There is no substitute for butter. Mo butter, mo better.
  • I've had asthma/allergies for 20 years, never had issues with food. You really should get a skin test done so that you'll know what your triggers are.
  • I get the same thing. I agree with others that its more about not understanding. After losing over 100lbs, my focus is now on building muscle and strength which is causing me to get leaner. So I get "how much more weight are you trying to lose?" all the time. When I try to explain I can see their eyes just glaze over. Most…
  • I'm an old-fashioned gal, I use good ol pen and paper. I've tried using a few apps, but they were just too cumbersome and I didn't have the patience to figure them out. The one app I have found useful is DeekFit Gym because they have a barbell calculator, that helps with the pesky math issue of trying to figure out what…
  • Actually I found it easier. I had a group of friends that cut me off, it was very upsetting at first, but I used it focus on me and now I realized it was the best thing for me to get away from them. I joined a professional women's group I found on Meetup.com. Though I wouldn't call them "close", when we are together we…
  • Check out Be Fit, that's where a lot of the Jillian Michaels workouts live, along with many others. They have a variety of workouts
  • There are actually a few magazines that are geared toward women and lifting, Oxygen of course, but also Muscle & Fitness Hers and Strong. I've gotten a few lifting workouts from them. They are kinda pricey, but you can always check out their websites. I love BodyBuilding.com, that was one of the first resources I checked…
  • My neighbor feels the need to make this comment every time she sees me. Last night I was putting out the trash and she says something about me "disappearing", but mostly its the skinny comments that drives me effing crazy. Not only am I NOT skinny, but I do not even aspire to BE skinny. I've told her this a million times,…
  • This is how I feel when someone calls me skinny
  • ^^^^ agree. I tend to eat around the same amount of calories every day, but make sure to up my protein and carb intake on lifting days
  • My dog loves to go for walks and don't think she hasn't noticed the change in the weather and daylight savings. Because she's getting older we can't do the long walks like we used to, but she seems to be satisfied with a quick walk around the neighborhood.
  • my favorite story is buying one (1) cookie at Whole Foods one day, I looked at the calories, 250. Not bad considering it was somewhat larger than the average store bought cookie, but not what I would call a "big cookie". Went home, ate my cookie, looked at the package again and noticed the serving size...this one (1)…
