If you're on a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight. Intermittent Fasting is another way to restrict you from eating more than your caloric-intake allows because it's giving you a time-window if when to eat and when not to eat

Define "diet" for a 13 y/o? If they're overweight/obese, putting a 13 y/o on a "diet" isn't so bad. Show them what the food pyramid is all about and put that pyramid to good use.
