  • Woop Woop!!! Go Shannon!!!
  • Hello Ladies, I am happy to say that I am back. It's quite an adventure for me but it is over, yay!!!!! Four visits to the OR and one visit to the ER, later. I am doing much, MUCH better, now. There will not be any more surgeries or procedures. I am so ready to get back into the groove. I LOOOOOVE that you guys have kept…
  • It may be a good idea for you to sneak your veggies in your food. Make soups, stews and casseroles that are full of vegetables. This way the flavor of the other foods will cover up the taste of your veggies. You can use a grater and grate carrots, broccoli, cabbage and zucchini and then put the shredded vegetables in…
  • Do you not like veggies?
  • You slipped. Most of us do at some point or another. I do often. Health is not a destination, it's a journey. It is also not a sprint but a marathon. This little bump in the road is just that. If you hit a pothole in the road, do you turn around and go home, no you keep driving forward. There will be more bumps. What makes…
  • I'm back, for now. There were some complications with the surgery on Friday, so they rescheduled the surgery for Monday to next Monday. I am in a lot of pain a lot of the time because I'm passing fragments. When I say fragments.....some of my fragments are the size of other people's kidney stones that they need surgery…
  • Well, let's blame it on the moon and the stars, Mercury in retrograde or some other crap. I'm up two pounds from last week, too. I'm sure it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I ate out most of the weekend....not at all. That's okay, because tomorrow I probably won't be eating at all. I can't have anything…
  • I count golfing!!!! Exercise is exercise...having fun makes it better, it doesn't diminish it.
  • I'd hardly think that 10% accounts for most. Not sure where people get their information but only about 10% of people gain their weight back after gastric bypass. There are some studies that show slightly higher at 12 or 15%. Now, the lap band....that is another story but that seems to be phasing out.
  • Okay....so, a person that has gastric bypass has to do the same exact thing that any other person has to do to lose weight. Eat less and move more. There is no easy way. The only difference is that if you are having the gastric bypass, you were found to be at too high of a risk to wait to use conventional methods. You lose…
  • Hi Brandi, Welcome to the club! I used to weight at least 430 lbs. I'm down to about 370ish...it fluctuates a lot. It was a struggle in the beginning and everyday is a struggle, now. I believe that it will always be a struggle, but I also believe that it is worth it and it will get easier at some point. The more we make…
  • Oh, I am still doing the shakes but they have less than a gram of sugar each. Not sweating that twice a day. They really help curb my cravings.
  • Shannon, it's sounds like you had a great weekend....sodium will mess you up. You should be okay soon. Drink lots of water to flush all that crap out. Alana, WooHoo!!!!! Shannon is probably right....you may have been losing the whole time but carrying around some water weight. Just goes to show, if you keep at doing the…
  • OA is good so far. It's nice to have people in person that understand the what you go through because they go through it to. It makes you feel validated in some way, and it helps to know that there is hope. I feel like it's not so much a failure but or flaw, but it's a human condition. There are horrible feelings attached…
  • You are doing great!!! That's a nice drop for one week. I think it's good idea to wait two week to weigh in. This week might not be that great, because of the big drop you just had. Waiting two weeks, may prove to be a little more inspiring for you. I have two surgeries scheduled. My right kidney stone on the 8th and my…
  • Started OA a day early. Took my daughter and she had a very unexpected breakdown during the meeting, which goes to show that it is needed. I forgot my meds one night...(pills only, I took the insulin). I logged everything. GREAT week. This weeks goals: ~ go to OA meetings ~ go to bed by 10:30 ~ log everything ~ No fast…
  • I have refrained from fast food for several days. I intend on NEVER driving thru a drive-thru window ever again. Home cooked meals are better but if I have to get out of my Jeep and walk into a restaurant and eat in front of other people....I'm going to be more likely to stick to healthy choices and portions. Hang in there.
  • I used to be over 400 pounds, as well. The first gym I ever went to I weighed under 300 pounds and everyone there was fit little bugs. I felt so uncomfortable. That was about 20 years ago. Many gyms today, like Planet Fitness or the Y, have people of all fitness levels. When I started going about 5 years ago, I found it…
  • Four pounds in a week is GREAT!!!! Four pounds a week for a year is 208 pounds in a year. Even people who have gastric bypass, usually take about a year to lose 100 pounds. That's about two pounds a week. This isn't a sprint it's a marathon. BTW, the longer it takes to lose, the more likely you are to keep it…
  • Twenty pounds is definitely noticeable. Of course, it's much more noticeable on someone smaller. I'm sure you have noticed, with looser close and more energy. Let's face it, looking better is awesome but the main focus is to be healthy. You are doing so great....so, be super proud of yourself. Acknowledge your…
  • I'm grateful that I took the plunge and attended my first OA meeting, last night. I was very nervous about walking to a meeting with people I've never met, but I did it and I'm really glad I did.
  • Sorry for the late response. As Dennis answered, OA stands for Overeaters Anonymous. I actually attended my first meeting tonight. What I found a room full of people that really understand what I go through. Some are in recovery and some are aiming for it. They actually base the program on the same 12 steps as AA, except…
  • I went to bed at 10:30 and woke up at 5 and felt much better than usual.
  • It's never too late. I think it's a great idea to track a bit without making changes for two reasons....you know what you should work on and many times when we have "bad" days....if look back...our bad days are better than our good days before we started and that is an accomplishment. WELCOME to the group!!! :flowerforyou:
  • I am checking in early because I know I will not be checking in again for a few days. I didn't have so much of a great week, not really bad but not stellar, either. I went to the doctors today and I got my first blood pressure reading in a very long time that was actually normal!!!! So, that was great. My blood sugar is…
  • I love the fact that one of your goals is to check into this forum!!! You are doing great. Trust me, none of will check in on time, all the time. Life happens. You know if you don't, I will be messaging you, after a while.
  • I know exactly what you mean. Some people only talk about their accomplishments and even lie about what's going on with their struggles. That doesn't help anyone. If everyone makes it look so perfect and easy and you can't be so perfect and "good" all of the time, it makes you feel flawed and a failure. You only fail if…
  • I hate that, when you decide to indulge in a treat and it's crappy. It feels like you just wasted all of the calories for nothing. It makes twenty times more disappointing when you are counting all of those calories and you didn't even enjoy it.
  • This is a question that depends on the perspective. If I had to face the fast that you are facing, I would choose the meal that would sustain me longer. Then go to sleep early so it's not torture.
