  • You started wearing the new shoes once you hit higher mileages? Had you been running in them on shorter runs? If not I would suggest that you wear the new shoes for shorter runs, and an older pair for longer, and work you and your new shoes up to higher mileages. New shoes can often use different muscles, or use the same…
  • I have both, pure flow and pure cadence... I know you said you're gonna stick with the glycerins for a while, but I suggest you try either out. As for wear time, mine lasted through last race season and a little extra, they wear pretty comparably to other shoes. Especially if you take into consideration how long you are…
  • I can't really add any more to the exercise... I already run 3ish days a week, lift weights 2 to 3 days a week and rock climb fairly regularly (at least once a week) ... I'm trying to schedule a yoga class for next quarter. So I think I've tapped out the exercise potential However I love your reading idea, a lot of people…
  • Track etiquette... this goes for gyms and not, but mostly gyms. Outdoor tracks tend to get used only by those who know what they are doing. But, seriously people, if you don't know how to use a track properly they have these things called treadmills where your issues will not impact others. As for the girls three wide…
  • Hal Higdon is great for beginners as has already been said. Just keep running, listen to your body and rest when you need to and you'll do fine. You will also be hooked after the first, fair warning. 1/2 marathons are my favorite!
  • Does anybody journal to help with stress? I've never been one for journaling, but I wonder if it would help. I might try that teeth brushing trick too, seems like something that would help me out.
  • Egg Muffins I've seen a lot of recipes for egg muffin type things, here is an example http://www.kalynskitchen.com/2006/10/egg-muffins-revisited-again.html. You could make them up ahead of time, warm it and go. Here is another similar idea http://www.fitsugar.com/Healthy-Breakfast-Mini-Veggie-Frittata-1790585 Banana Roll…
  • Can I ever get back to the person I was? X [/quote] No you can't get back to the person you were. But, that is a good thing. You have participated in the most amazing process that any woman can... you have made new life. That is incredible! You are amazing! It has also permanently changed who you are, and what you are. You…
  • Some of it is probably your body adjusting to the change in volume/type of training, I had trouble with my calves, so be smart, but give it time too, see if it works itself out. Run your thumb over the sore spots press as hard as you can stand, stretch out the shin and the calf as well, you just point your toe to the…
  • Nice! Keep it up, it'll fly by.
  • gee, thanks guys. it's nice to know someone read my post and it wasn't lost in the "great debate"
  • Ok here's my two uneducated cents... soy milk is bad if you have thyroid issues and is also not always the best choice for men... almond milk could be bad if processed improperly. Improperly processed almonds contain a naturally occurring form of cyanide, not something I would like to drink. It's also bad if you have a nut…
  • Thanks guys for the tips... I was just at TJ Maxx I had to walk away from some really awesome stuff... they had a jacket I have been looking at for a while and some nice cold weather tights, but I already have 2 pairs of those... instead I found a pair of CWX compression tights for half off... I do not know how many women…
  • I've watched my Mom struggling to loose since menopause. I am sorry to hear it's a struggle for you. You're attitude is wonderful though, humor is always good. If you Don't mind a youngling for a friend feel free to add me. Do yourself a favor though and quit calling yourself a fatty, you are beautiful just the way you…
  • There are lots of cereals out there that taste great without the sugar... just experiment. Also I started mixing about half the recommended serving with Greek yogurt, usually plain, but vanilla would be ok too it just has more sugar. If I need more sweet I throw in some fruit instead of sugar.
  • My Mom used to mix regular cheerios and honey nut cheerios half and half. We never knew the difference. I also grew up eating corn flakes, we were allowed some sugar for those, and Kix. Frosted mini wheats are a good choice too, pretty good nutritional content but kiddos (and myself) never know it because its frosted! I…
  • I think it would be great. My Mom always used turkey over any meat, its so mild in flavor you can make it taste like pretty much whatever you want. When I make meatloaf I use a half pound of turkey and a half pound of hamburger, same deal when I'm making taco meat, half and half. My meat and potatoes man hasn't noticed. :-)
  • I have noticed that the cinnamon and cardamon tea I just bought has been really great at helping deal with the cravings, same with the raspberry tea. And thanks everyone for all the great ideas for new teas to try. Its kind of exciting to think about. :-) I get bored easily so options are always a plus.
  • Tea is not replacing my coffee... now way, coffee is my morning drink of choice. I won't give it up because I love it. I too add sugar and *gasp* half and half. I like it too much to not drink it, and its not about the caffeine, I just love the taste. But a cup or two of coffee in the scope of a whole day just ain't a big…
  • I think its great, girls need to see that its ok to be strong, and that it doesn't make them any less beautiful. In fact in my mind she is more beautiful because of her strength and her confidence.
  • 1. It snowed 2. I got to sleep until I woke up (no alarm!) 3. Enjoying a nice cup of tea right now 4. Tomorrow is still the weekend 5. Ate pizza, yum!
  • Love to try this out, get me back on track running wise.
  • Lovely design, its very graceful. Do you have a tattoo already? Fair warning, they really are addicting. People always say that, I never believed it... that is 'till I got my first, and then a year later my second, and now a year later I am drawing out my third. The only reason I don't have more is money. Also something to…
  • I've often wonder myself why I feel hungrier around my period... but I suppose its not really surprising if you think about it. No scientific backing here, but here is my theory. Your body is loosing blood, for several days in a row and that takes energy to replace. Not to mention the loss of vitamins/minerals/etc, and who…
  • Fell off the wagon too... similar to you it was stress from the end of the quarter and illness... but I've decided to stop making excuses. I'm setting really small goals so they are easy to stick to. My first is just logging, I haven't been doing that. So that is what I suggest, just start with something small, something…
  • Read about an interesting study where they took a look at breakfast, one group ate a low calorie "good breakfast" the second group ate a high calorie breakfast and allowed themselves a splurge, chocolate in their shake, or some sugar in their cereal. They discovered that the group that ate a larger breakfast and allowed…
  • I run on an empty stomach unless my runs are going to be well over an hour, at that point I'll eat something small, like a piece of toast with peanut butter, or a banana with some peanut butter, then I wait a half hour and head out. Sometimes I will just take something small with me, like a gel. The rule is fuel for every…
  • Solution, spend the money for a nice bra or two, its really worth it. Think about how often you're in it, and how nice you'd like the girls to look down the road. Just save up a little each month, until then go with what you got. I like shock absorber and they'd be good for someone loosing weight because they are…
