This morning I really should have listened to my body and not run to work - everything hurts. Nothing specific, just dull aching, feeling shivery, runny nose, sneezing. Generally my body telling me I'm coming down with the sickness and should ease off rather than pushing faster. Also it was my slowest 5K ever, reduced to…

The most important thing is giving your body the nutrients it needs to recover. In my opinion, you should not be aiming for weight loss when recovering from surgery, instead aim for maintenance of your current weight, accounting for your sedentary activity level. You need to be eating significant amounts of protein and…

I like it, but it aggravates my reflux something terrible. It seems to almost corrode my vocal chords, after a shot of ACV, my voice is gone for hours afterwards.

It's hard enough to get an appointment if you're dying - they won't be interested in an injury, just pack me off with some painkillers. I might get an appointment with my physio though, that's probably a better bet. Actually, a day at work with a fair bit of sitting alternated with hourly walks and gentle ROM has really…

Yes if you are in the UK, only people who are qualified and hold Chartered Society of Physiotherapists accreditation may call themselves Physiotherapists or Physical Therapists. I don't know about anywhere else in the world.
-
A trained physiotherapist would be my only recommendation

You might want to consider slinging it in an elevated position ouh.nhs.uk/patient-guide/leaflets/files%5C10920Psling.pdf as it will be painful if you are casted and the increased blood flow to extremities causes swelling. By slinging elevated it will reduce blood pooling and swelling and encourage other gym users to be…

1. Get fitted for some decent shoes! 2. Consider compression wear to support your ankles. I bought myself a lovely (expensive) pair of compression socks which really helped my ankles, but eventually got too tight. Then I bought a pair of generic ankle supports (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B016F59BDU/) which really…

How did you find transition? That's the bit that puts me off signing up for a tri, I'm worried I'm going to be dancing around in my wetsuit for 10 minutes looking like a plonker

I do Crystal Palace parkrun regularly. Struggling to fit it in around marathon training at the moment, it's a tricky run to do as part of a longer run, but I do really love it. For the people doing 10K training, Parkrun really does fit (as you can usually do your long run after work), use it as a bit of speedwork :)

Go for the 10K - your first race should usually be shorter than your current training distance, as your race inexperience might lead you to struggling with pacing, crowding, etc.

Thanks for the responses - I wouldn't worry about menopause yet either, but it is something to bear in mind, and long term, you're doing a good thing by working on losing weight now as that will stand you in good stead as your body does start to change. I really, really would recommend getting more active. Losing weight…

Can you tell me a bit more about yourself? I guess from your profile you're the woman in the picture? Have you had children? How is your reproductive health - are your periods regular, do you have any reproductive issues? Women approaching the end of their fertility window often experience some metabolic issues relating to…

Adho Mukta Svasana for me. The pain in my shoulders and triceps is immense sometimes. I've been warming up with Anahatasana rather than going straight in to Downward Facing Dog and that seems to help/

Consider petitioning your SU for some student access microwaves? It's becoming increasingly common for universities to offer self-service "tea point" type facilities for students (the sort of thing that is usually provided for employees.

I wish! I'm fine when I'm running, but as soon as I stop, my Raynauds kicks in like a donkey, blood to hands and feet stops, the shivering starts and I crave a hot drink and calories! True, a warm hoody, sugar and a cup of tea after a long run have me right as rain in about 20 minutes, but it's misery from crossing the…

Also, your thyroid will not just magically "fix" overnight, even with the medication. Your metabolism will have changed to adapt to the malfunctioning thyroid and the thyroxin imbalance, and will take time to reset once you achieve blood thyroxin stability on meds.

I have similar problems, where I end up with massive (1000+) calorie deficits after exercise. I've found that relying on myself to feel hungry is not enough - my body will stop sending hunger signals when under stress, adn by the time I get the achy, "fritzy" feeling, it's too late and my energy stores are very depleted.…

I modify my routes - wouldn't do anywhere muddy and hilly in the rain, and I also look at transport options (I get very cold after runs, so being out in the rain for a long time afterwards would not be good), but I love running in the rain. Makes me feel alive!

I'm in marathon training (up to half marathon distance) and am now cycle commuting about 100K a week. I'm 178cm tall and weigh around 73KG I've not noticed a lot of weight loss (down 2KG in 4 months), but I've gone from a UK Size 14 (US 12) to a UK 8-10 (US 6-8) in the space of 6 weeks. I'm definitely noticing my body…

I have the same problem. I've lost 2-3 dress sizes in the last 3 months, but have actually gained weight! I've upped my exercise massively though, so I'm blaming that! The best advice I've ever had was from a GP (family doctor) who said that really, we don't know why some people gain or lose weight very quickly and others…

Did the run yesterday! 2.31. Super pleased as it turned out not only to be my first half, but my first trail run too! And a pretty challenging one - ĺots of hills, mud and running on grass.

I use unflavoured organic hemp from Amazon, pretty cheap, lasts ages

The biggest single change I made to improve my 10K time was to give up alcohol 2 weeks prior to the run. Shaved 3 minutes off my PB, I really think because my body was working more efficiently and was better fuelled. I also did 4 days no running beforehand (in training running every other day). Felt so fresh and good in…

Ooh - the pen idea is great! It really helps. No new running shoes, but yes to smart heels. It really messes with my foot balance - think it's time I went shoe shopping ;)

Well I'm not actually really losing weight anyway - maybe on average 300g a week, possibly less. It is difficult to tell because my weight will vary over a KG a day for no very good reason, but I don't really want to gain. It's just unsustainable at the moment to have a deficit which "should" be losing me a KG a week,…

I'm not sure how much I need to lose, to be honest. Depending on the scales I use, my weight fluctuates by 5KG. So, the worst case is I have 10KG more to lose to be right in the middle of a healthy weight. Best case it's 5KG...

I've just started cycle commuting. My council offer free cycling classes to residents, so I did a 2hr confidence building cycle around my town (very busy!) before starting to ride on my own. Does your town offer anything similar - if so I'd massively recommend it! I don't like mirrors, they discourage you from looking over…

I log. The trouble is when I have a blowout day and lose a KG afterwards.....

Whoah, stop jumping all over this person! This is a very common summer job in Europe, particularly for British teenagers (who are allowed to drink from 18). They are expected to maximise alcohol revenue in the venues they take their groups to, by organising drinking competitions, forfeit games, etc. There is an expectation…
