C5-C6 herniation- Alternative Shoulder exercises?

According to my doctor, shoulders and shrugs need to be changed if i want to do these exercises.
Thumbs have to be up for instead of in for shoulder raises.
Does anyone know of a good website or something that teaches ways of doing it and other exercises?

Yes. And you really should see one. The cervical spine is fragile and professional advice is best given face to face to prevent injury.0 -

Yes if you are in the UK, only people who are qualified and hold Chartered Society of Physiotherapists accreditation may call themselves Physiotherapists or Physical Therapists. I don't know about anywhere else in the world.0 -
I'm recovering from a herniated disk in my C6/C7...I did about six weeks of physical therapy twice per week...it did wonders. I did not do my usual lifting during this time...when I would go to the gym I'd just do my "homework".0

as for the rest, ok sounds good. Im going to a physical therapist already. They are doing cervical traction to my neck so its cool.
Basically i had a good rhythm at the gym and i want to continue at least doing the alternates to make some headway.

I just started back to the gym last week and I'm basically ramping up. There are still some things I can't do like back squats and I get some numbness going down my arms if I do dumbbell bench press, but not barbell bench press...I'm just working back into things slowly but according to my physical therapist I should likely be fully recovered going into the new year...
It's a pretty slow recovery...I don't have any pain anymore but I still get a little numbness and tingling if I do certain things but things are getting much better on that front too.0 -

gotcha... sucks because the injury almost rules out all shoulder exercises. Thats why i was wondering if there was a website that offered some info.

As you are doing, see the physical therapist and follow his/her instructions. If you want to do some reading about shoulders and exercise Eric Cressey, a trainer who works with many major league baseball players is know as a "shoulder guy". I've talked to physical therapists I've worked with and they all follow his stuff.

i emailed him directly. Just looking for alternative ways to workout out and still get bigger shoulders without hurting myself.0
