Most attempts fail if they are too restrictive. Plan in your reward... have one cookie! Don't call it a diet, it's a fundamental change in the way in you eat / exercise. If you need a big day to go over in cals then do it once a month not every week. The more you go over the longer it will take....

I'd build your endurance first so you can exercise without getting so tired. If you are on a treadmill, slowly increase the incline on your walk. Maybe do some body weight movements if he allows it. (you can look those up with like "body weight exercise" )

Just don't tie up the circuit equipment sitting on it for 5 mins while you play with your phone! Or do your curls in the squat rack, get a bench if you need a rack! You can walk, ride, or climb at you own pace... as long as you are Moving, I don't care... :D Lead, Follow, or get the hell out of my way! :p

As long as you hit your cals/macro goal, it doesn't really matter when you eat. (except for getting protein within 1 hr after exercise for max benefit)
