A month ago I signed up to a 12 week personal training plan which has given me more confidence using free weights at the gym. By the end of it I would like to be deadlifting 125kg, squatting 110kg and benching 70kg. I have been restricting myself to 2000 calories per day while doing this and am seeing some steady weight…

Congratulations on reaching One-derland - great progress. It is a little sad that you do not seem to be getting much support from your husband and MiL for you weight loss journey and you certainly deserve a treat for reaching such a milestone. The fitness tracker idea seems like a good one. I have a Garmin Vivoactive 3 and…

I am a UK male of a similar weight to the OP and also find that shoes wear quickly. I have had quite a few pairs of Merell Moab trail shoes and they generally last around six months which is expensive but not as crippling as the usage the OP describes. I have more recently started monitoring the www.hotukdeals.com web site…

I would class that as a "Epic" victory :) Each 10 pounds would be a major victory (to me). Brilliant progress - well done!

I am a little puzzled when you say that you enjoy riding/running with others but that classes at the gym are not for you. My main interest is "audax" riding which is long distance cycling with distances of typically 200km to 400km. I wanted to get fitter for this and also find it difficult to find the time to train on the…

I can relate to not feeling elated when you reach a long held goal. A few years ago I lost 60 odd pounds to get under 200 and it freaked me out a bit. That combined with the arrival of the Xmas season knocked me off my path and I am back at 244 aiming again to get under 200 lol. I wish someone had got me to appreciate how…

Brilliant work - thank you for the inspiration :)

Great news - my close family do not care about my weight loss goals either which is frustrating when it is so important to me. I do have some other people that encourage me though.
-
A great way of marking progress - well done!

Thanks everyone for your responses. Lots of good, thought provoking stuff.

Fantastic work - thank you for the inspiration :)

That's an inspiring story. Best wishes your future journey towards a healthy future.

Wonderful loss - well done. I think many guys in similar sedentary jobs will be inspired by you - I am! I think being persistent is the key. I tend to lose 40ish pounds, get distracted by a holiday or other event and pile it back on. I would be interested to know more detail about how you lost, whether there were plateaus…

Brilliant work - so much difference between the before and after - thanks for the inspiration :)

I have a vacation booked in just over six weeks and want to drop a stone by then. If I stick to my MFP allowance and do a few workouts then I think I should be able to do it.
-
Based on the calorie intake you specify and your activity level you should be losing a lot faster than you are. Even without the exercise you should be losing steadily - I can understand your frustration as I have had occasional plateaus where the scale does not move which seems to defy all logic and reason. It would not…

I would guess that the 1220 MFP gave you would be for the sendentry profile rather than active. If I set my profile to active my allowance increases by 700 calories a day from 1500 to 2200 to lose 2 pounds per week. Based upon the figures you give I can see why you are frustrated by the slow progress. Leaving for your…

Great loss - well done on your hard work

Restarting today myself - I knew that I was piling weight on since Xmas but ignored it until yesterday when I could not find a pair of shorts in my wardrobe that fitted comfortably. Good luck everyone.

Fantastic job - well done!

12 pounds a month is a great rate of loss and you have done brilliantly to lose 90 pounds. I really would not worry that some people lose faster - your progress so far is great and you should be proud of yourself - many people of here would love to have achieved what you have :)
-
Thank you for sharing - I have just started again today and seeing your success is very helpful to me.

Ten stone! - wowzer!

Inspiring and so relatable for the average guy like me. Having a target is great - mine is to get below 200 pounds  To be honest I have been a bit lax with eating and logging recently so thanks for the inspiration!

Two more pounds to reach 50 pounds lost

Great work - well done and thanks for sharing :)

Fantastic loss - you look so happy in the bottom picture - thank you for inspiring me as I have been struggling a bit recently :)
-
Thank you Suzy - that is reassuring. I was still aching this morning so my muscles are definitely still recovering :)

I have a bunch of mini-goals coming thick and fast - I weighed 224.3 pounds this morning. Goal 1. Getting below 16 stone (224 pounds). Goal 2. Losing 40 pounds since I started again (222 pounds). Goal 3. Losing three stone (220 pounds). Goal 4. Getting below 100kg (220 pounds). I guess goals are like buses!

If I do a serious amount of exercise I will treat myself to some food and drink but only do it once every three weeks or so. Yesterday I cycled a hilly 100km and my fitness tracker told me I burnt 4800 calories total over the day. I treated myself to a pizza and some beer which, along with the other stuff I ate during the…
