Yep, like has been said here already. Sounds like some form of resistance training would help things along. If it were me, I’d look to either some compound barbell lifts with low reps or look into some form of kettlebell swing based workout. I can point you to a few references if you’re interested. Just let me know.

Hi @pierinifitness. Sorry for the delayed response, been offline for a few days. Sorry, I originally was directing the question the original post because I was after the same info you were I think. haha I'm 52. Have always been into fitness but my goals now are primarily focused on staying healthy and fighting old age with…

Like was already mentioned.... a HR monitor might be worth picking up. There are some pretty reasonably priced Bluetooth based ones out there along with many free apps to help you track/record the results.

I’d ask a similar question to @pierinifitness... what’s the main thing your after? Is this mainly about strength, body composition, fat loss (guessing this is more important than weight loss)? As far as the programming end of things, I think @Chieflrg is dead on. It’s likely time for a programming change but it would be…

This is pretty good. You don't need to buy the book, it just explains the concept and science behind the workout. It's all body weight exercises broken down into short HIIT interval routines. If you have an iPhone, Ipad, Android device, etc. the free app is really good. Otherwise you can just follow the routing via the…

Hi. I just finished a 21 day swing challenge. http://www.amazon.com/21-Day-Kettlebell-Swing-Challenge-ebook/dp/B00GE6JJK6/ I did the advanced level as I've been KB'ing off and on for years but wanted to do something structured that was "pre-programmed" to make it simple to follow. I will probably do it again in a couple of…

For the most part, I'd say no. I'm rather "hard core" (I guess), and I think it's great to see anyone out on a bike. Could care less what they're wearing or riding. Besides, who are we to pass judgment anyway? We look more ridiculous in our cycling clothes than you ever could I'm guessing. Ride on!

I'd second the earlier response on kettlebell training. I discovered it about a year and a half ago and it's now a regular part of my training. I'd bought a couple of DVD's to help get my wife going on it and she'd seen noticeable results after a few weeks. The best thing is that it combines cardio and resistance, so it's…

Hard to say where everyone's individual calorie burn will be different but, for what it's worth... I'm a cyclist and train with a HR monitor on a regular basis. 600 calories at moderate effort over the course of an hour is pretty reasonable. You're probably burning about double the amount when training at the higher…

Hi. I picked up a Kinetic trainer off of Craig's List last year and have been happy with it so far. Seems really well made. Think I paid just about $200 for it used, but it was in great condition. Also FYI, you might want to look into a couple of the Spinveral DVD's as it makes the training a little less boring and they…

The proper form and full range of motion is definitely more important than the reps. It can be tough to make the transition though. I've heard of the 100 PU challenge, but am not familiar with the exact weekly goals. Maybe mix your set up with some half and some full until you can hit the goal. As far as modifying, that's…

Personally a big fan of the kettlebell. Looking forward to moving my circuit outdoors once the weather improves a bit.

Only one tip... Go!!! You'll feel so much better after working out. Honestly, some of my best workouts are on days that I feel this way (strange, but true). Good luck!

I'd highly recommend looking into kettlebell training. You need very little space (you can even move it outside when the weather is cooperating), minimal investment to buy one or two of them, and it is an incredible full body workout which mixes cardio and resistance training into a pretty short session (usually between 20…

My two cents... just keep going with it if it's working for you. The quality of the overall calories (protein, fiber, fat, carbs, etc.) is important, but a bowl of sugary cereal here an there isn't going to side track you, especially if you're still hitting your overall calorie goal. It will probably help you stick with…

Hi Rick, Congrats on the 27lbs!! That's impressive! I'm no expert, but have found myself in the same pattern before so figured I'd throw in my two cents. I find that if I try to deny myself foods that I really like (which may be typically foods to avoid) permanantly, I will inevitably fall off the wagon at some point. The…

No need to avoid it, quite the contrary. High in protein and healthy fats. Moderation is still key though. Seems to me your on right on track, 15 lbs since January is great progress!! Keep it up!!!

Hi, Not sure if you own a slow cooker, but if you do, it's a great way to make these (it?). Basic recipe is 1 cup of steel cut oats, to 4 cups of water. Throw it in the slow cooker, set it on low for 8-9 hours, that's it. I typically put it together before going to bed and it's ready to go in the morning. I have a couple…
