Out of the gym workouts.

I like the gym and all but when I get the chance, I like to exercise outside. I feel there are plenty of ways to exercise that you don't need a gym.
I'd like to see what other people do to workout outside of the gym. Here is one I like to do. I guess it's similar to a cross-fit workout even though I have never done cross-fit in my life. Although cross-fit is basically circuit training as well. Oh well, here it is:
- Good for people who want cardio/strength.
- Obviously adjust weight to your level.
- Best done in pairs.
Find a tire about 50-75 pounds (Recycle centers can usually sell you one CHEAP.) and take turns flipping it for about 200 yards.
After have one person take two 35-45 pounds plates in each hand and run 100 yards with that.
The other person does burpees (Pushup then jump up.) Switch when the person gets back.
Do that circuit 3-5 times.
Then run a good mile after.
I burn about 600+ calories doing this. Takes about 30 to 40 minutes to do it.

Good ideas. You can also play tag with the kids, fetch with the dog, or even go for a bike ride with the kids. It is raining here today, so nothing outside for us!0

I've got a good one planned for tomorrow since the weather is starting to get nice here. Being a firefighter I have access to some nice, heavy, 4 inch supply hose. There's a hill behind our station that I'm gonna unroll it down, then roll it back up going up the hill, pick it up (prob weighs 50lbs.) walk around the station, unroll it down the hill, etc...repeating. I'm trying to incorporate things with the fire service. I'm gonna start climbing our ladder truck on a regular basis. ( 95 ft.). Walking with hose, rolling hose. Wearing an airpack on the elliptical...things like that.0

Personally a big fan of the kettlebell. Looking forward to moving my circuit outdoors once the weather improves a bit.0

lol for some reason it reminded me of the assignments on the biggest loser !!:P haha!!
no but in all seriousness this is an awesome workout. i would love to experience that but I don't think anyone would agree to do it with me
I also love exercising outside, it's so much nicer than in the gym when the weather is nice and sunny:) but I stick to the old fashioned jogging in the park since I'm not as creative :P0 -
Yeah, I really don't like working out in gyms too much. It's dreary and sometimes un-motivating. Plus sometimes you got to wait for a machine/bells/bench to open up. Drives me nuts how long some people do one exercise and won't give up their seat when asked.
When I'm outside I feel like im more likely to do a good workout. And it's just me and sometimes a couple of friends. No waiting.0 -
My workout from yesterday can be done at home by changing a few things. Like instead of stairs jump rope and instead of the incline run backwards for get that heart rate up. The circuit can be done at home esp if you have a pull up bar......
20 Min Stairs level 4 (calorie burn program)
20 Tredmill - Incline 7.5 at 3.5 MPH 2-3 mins then walk backwards and increase until incline 15 ulternating walking forward and backwards. SO every 2-3 mins of walking switch to backwards then go back to walking and increase incline and keep repeating. The last minute I ran 6.0 MPH at 15.0 incline.
5 min cool down on Tredmill.
Circuit
40 Rounds, 15 seconds exercise, 15 seconds rest
1. Skater Lunge Jumps - 10, 10, 9, 10
2. Reptile Push ups - 5 1/2, 5, 3, 2
3. Jump Squats - 12, 9, 9, 10
4. Pulls ups (lying down on floor under poll so rev push up I guess) - 7, 6, 6, 7
5. Jumping Jacks - 14, 16, 16, 12
6. Dancing Crab - 13, 11, 8, 11
7. Handing lrg raise (from pull up bar) - 7, 5, 5, 7
8. Dive Bombers - 4, 5, 3, 4
9. Plank knee tucks - 15, 15, 15, 18
10. Gets ups - 5, Stopped b/c I didnt like the way my knees felt the second time around so I jogged in place
I couldnt even do abs after this!!! I was DONE!!0 -

I love the gym. I work out at home like once a month. I like being somewhere where everyone is in the same mind set. Its motivating for me0 -

True, but some people just make me angry at the gym. It just depends on the day. Lately I've been in the gym because of weather but today was too nice to pass it up.
Nice workout though. If I do go to the gym it gets similar to that. Treadmill incline training is awesome. I usually go from 15 to 30 on the incline. (We have a monster of a treadmill at my gym.) Releases that testosterone in the system that gets people going.0 -
I put both kids in a bike trailer and head out for an hour. Man, they don't get any lighter, but I'm getting stronger! I can burn up about 1000 calories pulling them, their snacks, and the weight of their arguments. :-/0

Lol I hate people in general (the smaller the person the more angry). I am always getting annoyed bc people are ignornat. For example: I was jump ropping for a good 15 mins. Very intense intervals and this woman walks into my rope, looks at me like I told her to MUSH with a dirty look, and walked away; keep in mind she have so much room to go around or could have taken another way.
Yea my other gym has that machine.0 -

Happened to me too doing TRX at the gym. Guy walks in front of me and I pretty much punched him in the jaw doing some core work. He had to whole training room but decides to walk into my fist. Then tells me I need to watch what I'm doing. Almost lost my temper there.I put both kids in a bike trailer and head out for an hour. Man, they don't get any lighter, but I'm getting stronger! I did something like that once when I was babysitting for a friend. Two kids in one of those jogging strollers. Made it really hard because they kept on moving when I'd go up hills. Was a good run though.0 -
Just a couple of inputs?!
You people need to get out more! Sunlight has been proven to help motivate and some research has shown it helps the lower resting rate of your heart (which is good)!0
