  • Talk to your regular doctor about getting tested for food intolerance/allergies. I went through a similar thing years ago where I inexplicably gained weight, and over a short period of time, despite diet and exercise. I, too, was tested for Cushing's (that that's a fun test right?) and thyroid, but those were negative.…
  • Zucchini "spaghetti" is good!
  • I have a total sweet tooth too. It helps me when I stick to a low glycemic diet and cut out grains/starch. I don't find myself craving sugar as much then, or when I do, fruit satifsies it. Right now I'm following the Paleo diet and it's really been helping me curb my sugar cravings. Cutting out diet soda/fake sugar really…
  • Wow... that is a lot to go through at such a young age! Congrats on coming through it all. It takes a lot of strength!
  • 8 years... it's the lowest weight I've been as an adult, and I keep it as my profile picture to keep me inspired and motivated!
  • It gave me a baseline of 2727. I set it to a loss of 30lbs over the default 180 and it says if I don't change my current activity level I should eat 1848 cals/day. That's about the same rate of loss I have MFP set at (approx 1lb/week) and that, and my nutrionist, have me set at 1500 cals/day. That's a big daily difference!…
  • You can add me if you'd like! I started cutting out gluten from most of my diet (but would still have beer, or not worry about it if eating out with friends) a couple years ago, but recently got the firm diagnosis of being non-celiac gluten sensitive, so had to cut it out for reals, in everything and every day. I just…
  • "He says I am perfect for him except for my weight." Honey... no. True love is unconditional. And the right man for you would never say such a thing - your partner should think you're perfect for him exactly as you are. It absolutely sucks that you are in this situation. There is just so much wrong about this…
  • Ditto that! Having to cut out gluten for me meant cutting out processed and refined foods, which naturally led me to eating healthier. I also love to cook, and have always liked fresh fruits and veggies. But exercise? That's such a challenge for me. I like doing it, but it's really tough to fit it in during the week…
  • This happens to me more than I'd like... 'cause I am not a morning person and sometimes snooze-button-and-coffee-for-breakfast beats getting up a little extra early to actually eat something. For me, it all depends on how the rest of the week looks. If I've been consistently under my goal, then I'll make sure to get…
  • Yes, this, exactly! And I agree that people don't mean to be rude when they ask. Weight problems aside, I just think it's a rude topic of conversation - as you said, you don't walk up to someone and ask about anything else about their body unless they volunteer it! This also came up at a work function, where I think even…
  • Now, I will say there was a good-ish time when I got asked a similar question, although it was embarassing still - I was meeting with a client in the lobby of my workplace right after I'd lost my first 10lbs and had lost 5 inches from my waist. She asked me how old my baby was, and I said I didn't have kids. She went on to…
  • LOL, me too!!! I always say I have the white girl pancake booty. have big boobs, and then all my weight likes to hang out on my belly... but my *kitten* didn't get invited to the party.
  • Thanks everyone! These posts actually made me laugh out loud. It definitely wasn't the first time this happened to me... but it just so happened I had fit into a super cute new dress that was a size smaller than what I had been wearing, so I was feeling pretty good! And then that happened... lol, I guess it was…
  • I usually make this really easy and yummy pasta salad, using a GF pasta. It's just a box of GF pasta (penne, mac or spirals), a can each of corn, black beans, diced tomatoes, tossed with some mayo, chili powder and whatever other taco-seasoning-esque spices you like (of course making sure everything is GF). It's good b/c…
  • Bisquick GF is good... but King Arthur Pancake mix is the best, if you can find it! Pancakes are nice and fluffy, just like "regular" pancakes.
  • I agree with this concept totally - I am someone who will always have a high BMI but would actually be unhealthier at a normal BMI. After a lifelong struggle with my weight, I finally started seeing a specialist, who determined that I have a naturally dense frame, and that my lean body mass is 124lbs. Thing is, I'm 5'4".…
  • Maybe take a look at your current carb/protein balance and tweak it a little? When I hit a plateau my nutritionist reined in my carbs a bit so I was doing a 2:1 ratio (2 g carbs for every 1 g protein), and that totally did the trick.
  • Ditto on what everyone else says. As for the chest strap, it's pretty much comfortable - for me, though, depends on what sports bra I'm wearing. If I'm wearing my running one, which has more compression, it can be really uncomfortable if I don't get it in the right spot, but otherwise with a normal sports bra I don't even…
  • This won't help with the whole eating-away-from-home thing, but if you're looking for some good GF/Vegetarian recipes check out www.wheatlessandmeatless.com.
  • I'm a 38D/36DD, 5'4" and 184lbs. I stared running when I was about 15lbs heavier and never had a medical professional tell me I couldn't run because of "the girls." I don't have any shoulder/back/joint pain while running. When I first started I had some shoulder soreness that was due to my using a cheap-o sports bra - I…
  • I use it as both a supplement and a meal replacement. In the morning I blend a scoop of vanilla whey protein with iced coffee, it's like a healthier Frappuccino. ;-) And then most nights for dinner, I have a smoothie - usually some type of protein powder (right now I'm using hemp) mixed with 1 cup blueberries, 7oz spinach,…
  • Hakuna Matata... a friend mentioned watching the Lion King. It won't get out of my head!!
  • For me it was definitely just replacing anything meat with packaged/processed meat replacements. I went veg for a bit during college and did that... also used it as an excuse to eat a ridiculous amount of cheese. :blushing: Now I'm following a mostly vegetarian diet (I have meat every now and then) and I avoid the packaged…
  • I put on a pencil skirt that when I first bought it I could barely zip, and the last time I wore it (maybe 2 weeks ago?) I had to wear spanx underneath... today it zipped, it looked great without the spanx... and even fit a little loose! Woohoo!
  • I'm 5'4" but have a dense frame...I had a body composition analysis done a few months ago and found out that by itself my frame weighs 125lbs, which I'm told is an average size for a 5'8" woman! So I am aiming for 150-155, as my doc says that's the lowest I should go in order to still have a healthy percentage of body fat.…
  • I did achieve goal weight but through Weight Watchers, not MFP. Took me about 8 months... lost 53 lbs, that was in 2004. I was back up to my starting weight, plus an additional 10 lbs by fall 2008. It was a combo of factors. I only maintained my goal for a few months, then gained back 5lbs by the end of the year. I'd…
  • I have hitchiker's thumbs. It looks really funny when I give a thumbs up!
  • 1) Yes, eat at least some of your exercise calories, otherwise your net calories for the day will be too low. There have been other posts on this site that further explain the reasoning behind this, and will do so better than I can. :) 2) I, too, am an impulsive eater. I'm much better about it than I was, but there's been…
