You have done really well, look happier and must feel better too

Well done. Rockin!

Unless you spend your money on plans / products where everything is already measured out in serves then very worth it. I enjoy almonds and peanut butter - highly calorific foods that aren't practical or cost-effective to by in "Single Serve". For this I have a food scale at home and another at my office desk at work. If…

Hi all. Born in '64 in Australia and still living here. In 2010-11 I was at my heaviest weight of 136kg and something 'clicked' (not as in my joints) in March 2011, and by ditching added sugar and sugary drinks, walking 20-30km per week, and tracking my food, I got to 96kg in December. Major depression set in and injury…

I'm avoiding for the above reason (gut feel). Just because things are unknown about something does not mean it is ok or not ok. From Wikipedia article "mercury use was thought to prolong life, heal fractures, and maintain generally good health, although it is now known that exposure to mercury vapor leads to serious…

Hi there, I've been on MFP for 5 years on and off (mostly on). I have had a few accounts but sticking with this one (I like the name). I'm Gary, in Australia. I am so close to goal weight but still have a ways to go in overall fitness (just quit my job to have surgery, so no gym for a while, and a tight budget). I had best…

That's awesome. All the best. Suggestion:- update profile with some info as well - more FR's accepted that way. GO FOR GOLD !

Reklesspartan well done mate and a hello from across 'the ditch' (Brisbane). @aduhmads I hear ya lol.

See a podiatrist. Sounds like a cop-out but I wish I did earlier in my weight loss journey. The result of me not seeing one was a damaging setback for sure (damaged tendon and ligament). I discovered through the podiatrist that I have flat feet and now use orthotics all the time. Short version: pain = loss (not gain).

I have the same issue. In Pilates classes they say 'activate your t-zone' or 'activate your core' and I don't know the difference or if I was activating it. With a position called 'tabletop' ( RHS of this photo : http://www.whyiexercise.com/images/back.strengthening.exercises.tabletop.jpg ) - both legs up, my lumbar spine…

52 is YOUNG ! That said, I seen 60-70+ year olds on hear - many of them inspirational, and many of them benefit from just tracking. I say the same for my friends with disabilities. You're not done, just starting !! Feel free to friend me.

Better in taste or better for you ? I go real Coke as the others have no calories so they don't really satisfy. A lot of 'diet foods' have been shown (by some studies - google it) to hinder weight loss. The sugar substitutes in the zero cal drinks are really dangerous (more studies). Coke itself has the calories so it…

"Put that thing back where it came from, or so help me !". TavistockToad is right - it has be coming from inside of you. So reprogram yourself.

52yo male in Australia. Friend requests welcome from anyone who wants an online cheersquad (ok, cheerperson).

I used to. It was set by my doctor. I dropped quite quickly and was about 20lb short of this goal when my doctor said he was happy where I got to. I have gained again but this time around I will be losing bit-by-bit. A slow downward trend for me is my aim and any gains over a certain amount will mean a bit of a 'step it…

Lost 40, need to loose another 40. All feel free to add me !

If I had time I'll grab some popcorn. Interesting thread. Personally, my experience from a few years ago. Sorry if it is a bit of a "waffle". Briefly - discussion with doctor. March 2011, Doctor says "Gary, you are pre-diabetic, lose weight... get down to 90kg". I started at over 130kg (over 287lb). Dec 2011 visit same…

Lost 40+ lb and need to lose about another 40 (the hardest ones lol). I have done it before and need to do it again now ! FR (friend request for newbies :) ) welcome from anyone.

Teach it !!! Yes. It is self-taught because it is self-motivation. 1 bad day or bad week just makes re-focussing easier (as we know better what not to do). Some of us had bad months, years, decades or lifetimes but it is often how we perceive it. Come on, you can do it !

51yo. Lost a total of 40kg (about 88lb) in 2011 but gained back quite a bit. This time slow and steady to win the race. More friends welcome. Feel free to add me.

Lost 45lb and aiming for 35-50lb more pounds depending on a lot of factors. More friends welcome.

I love science - not just machines, computers, electronics, etc., etc., but the natural world and how it 'ticks'. Oh, and if I could, I'd be a dancer too ;) FRs welcome all round (well, er.... we are all aiming for flat, not round lol)

Doctors can give some general advice and steer you in the right direction on this topic. That is their job. They may start the process and not be the finish (ie many people think a doctors advice will be like a write-off). Possible outcomes: (1) Nothing wrong - body will catch up (2) Dietary advice - not what MFP'ers are…
