  • Perhaps your muscles were fatigued after the running and your form wasn’t as good as it usually is when you do your lunges rested. Especially if you were trying to do them quickly so you could pick up your toddler. In any event, you might want to reconsider a long run tomorrow if you are unable to walk normally today.
  • Where is our favourite female Canadian ultra runner these days? (JessicaMcB)
  • February 2 — 4.15 miles February 4 — 5.19 miles February 6 — 4.23 miles February 8 — 6.65 miles February 10 — 3.11 miles February 11 — 3.45 miles February total — 26.78/75 miles Ran in a slushy icy mess yesterday; kept losing traction so cut it short to 5K. Since that run was cut short, decided to run two days in a row and…
  • I use Due North traction aids. They work really well, but mine wore out pretty quickly (lasted less than a season). Worth it though to run outside!
  • February 2 — 4.15 miles February 4 — 5.19 miles February 6 — 4.23 miles February 8 — 6.65 miles February total — 20.22/75 miles I had hopes for a 10 mile run today; planned to do 2x of my regular 4 mile loops plus 1 mile out and back on the path I do my long runs on. Well the icy path turned out to be a mistake because my…
  • February 2 — 4.15 miles February 4 — 5.19 miles February 6 — 4.23 miles February total — 13.57/75 miles Plans for a long run today foiled once again by icy ground conditions and lack of appropriate footwear. The path I normally would have run on was not happening today. I might just have to run my regular loop twice and…
  • @PastorVincent I have the Orange Mud hydraquiver single barrel and definitely like it better than a hydration belt. I used it this past summer with a tank top and experienced slight issues with chafing around the neck/shoulders until I started using body glide.
  • February 2 — 4.15 miles February 4 — 5.19 miles February total — 9.34/75 miles Supposed to be a long run today, but a snow storm plus freezing rain meant I wasn’t running outside, let alone running long. So it was the treadmill for me. The first ten minutes are always the hardest (mentally), but I did refrain from quitting…
  • I’m back again this month with the same goal of 75 miles. Not sure if I’ll make it since it IS a shorter month. If everything goes perfectly according to plan, I should hit 76. :#

  • I had a stroke in May 2016 at age 38, so I decided to try running as a form of rehab. I’m not sure if my gait pattern will ever be normal again, but I keep trying.

  • @amymoreorless When you went for your 14 mile run/walk, did you do a run/walk based on time or distance? For example, do you run for a certain # of minutes, and then walk, or do you run a certain distance, and then walk? Or do you just walk whenever you need a rest?

Even with my traction aids, both sides of the streets were pretty sketchy, so I…
  • I was driving home (slowly) a few years ago during a whiteout in very deep snow when a guy in a Jeep zoomed by me. About 2 km later, I saw him on the side of the road, having clearly lost control. Then about 10 minutes later, he passed me again! It’s good that he was okay and able to get back on the road, but he obviously…
  • I have an AWD vehicle with snow tires, otherwise I wouldn’t want to drive for about 4 months of the year.
  • January 1 — 4.15 miles January 3 — 4.25 miles January 5 — 4.12 miles January 7 — 4.15 miles January 9 — 9.27 miles January 12 — 5.14 miles January total — 31.08/75 miles First treadmill run of the season. Freezing rain today and the roads are a sheet of ice. Saw a kid step off the school bus earlier today and fall on his…
  • @7lenny7 I am probably the 100th person to say I’m glad you & Kody are okay, but I still mean it. I have done almost the same but worse. Running with traffic in daylight, I waited until the car I could hear coming passed me, I went to cross the road not paying any more attention. I almost got hit by the car following…
  • January 1 — 4.15 miles January 3 — 4.25 miles January 5 — 4.12 miles January 7 — 4.15 miles January 9 — 9.27 miles January total — 25.94/75 miles Long run today in weather just above freezing until the sun set. :) The trail was packed with deep snow, so a lot of the run was spent on the side of the road. Don’t know if I…
  • That IS a Tim Horton’s mocha! Half coffee, half hot chocolate, plus whipped cream and chocolate shavings on top.
  • January 1 — 4.15 miles January 3 — 4.25 miles January 5 — 4.12 miles January 7 — 4.15 miles January total — 16.67/75 miles Overdressed for the weather today — after the last few runs, 22 degrees felt downright balmy. I guess the 18 mph winds made me think it would be colder than it was. But with the extra layer, I was warm…
  • Regarding baby shampoo... it can actually be quite drying to hair. It is very alkaline (so it won’t sting baby’s eyes) which opens up the cuticle of hair, while the natural pH of hair is acidic. So I wouldn’t recommend baby shampoo in general.
  • @PastorVincent I usually wear it on the outside of my coat sleeve for easy access. I guess I just won’t be able to do that when it’s this cold.
  • January 1 — 4.15 miles January 3 — 4.25 miles January 5 — 4.12 miles January total — 12.52/75 miles My Garmin didn’t die today! -2F and 12 mph winds but kept it tucked in my pocket so all good (though my phone in the same pocket did die) Finally Strava registers a run. I think I might switch my long run from Sunday to…
