I had this problem SO BAD after I stopped the pill. I literally looked like I was balding. I started doing 3 different things- drinking an herbal tea meant to improve circulation, taking a hair, skin, and nails supplement, and using clinical strength head & shoulders shampoo. I had huge improvement and I stopped losing more…

Do you have high blood pressure? You can try a diuretic herbal tea to help get rid of excess sodium. Your diet sounds pretty good, so unless you're having problems directly related to excess sodium I'd say don't worry too much. I think you're doing great.

A harmless easy suggestion to try would be herbal tea. You can find some examples here: http://www.livestrong.com/article/138178-which-herbal-teas-are-diuretic/ But there are plenty more kinds out there. One important thing though- do you check your blood pressure? Water retention is normal from time to time, but if you…

Yes, it's typical to have high androgen hormones with PCOS. In fact, it is one of the criteria and sometimes they won't make a diagnosis without that part. My androgens are extremely high, and I went through tons of birth control pills trying to find one that worked for me. They just didn't cut it. Now I'm on Belara (a…

I have no clue about any of this stuff but I just wanted to say fingers crossed for you this month! It sounds like you're definitely on the right track  I'm like you with being utterly period-less on my own. Let us know what happens!

This says a lot by itself! You've got baby syndrome  I don't have any experience with adoption, so my advice wouldn't be too helpful, but remember that a good adoption agency should be willing to give you tons of information and help you figure out exactly what you want to do, even if it doesn't mean adopting through…

I'm happy for you Melody  I really think that years of struggles for you are about to get a whole lot better. Keep us updated!

Woo hoo! I'm sorry you have had to deal with sooooo much because of stupid bleeding, but I have hope that now that you are board with the idea of a hysterectomy, it will make you feel like a new person :)
-
I've experienced that too on two different brands of birth control pills. I've tried at least 7 different kinds over the years because I've had different problems with every single one. If your symptoms are not severe (which is awesome btw) and you don't need it as a contraceptive, then I'd ditch it so fast....I generally…

Sorry you're having all the bleeding problems :( I've been going through it too....I've been bleeding badly for 5 weeks now and have an appointment tomorrow to figure out why. I'm scared about the possibility of needing to remove my ovaries or get a hysterectomy before I have a chance to even try to have children. I have…

Welcome! I'm 25 and my PCOS is severe also...my androgens are off the charts and my ovaries grow very quickly off of meds, and instead of a "string of pearls" they look more like a cup of caviar, lol! I'm not overweight but I get acne like nobody's business and I've gone through most of the other symptoms as well. I had…

Ok, my understanding is that the release of an egg and having a period are related processes, but are not dependent upon one another... each is brought on by a cyclic increase in a different hormone. Many people on certain types of hormonal birth control get very light or no periods because of the hormones, but that…

Oh I know... Pack those babies in portioned ziplock bags and freeze them! Girl scout cookies freeze very well and its better not to have them staring at you on the shelf. :-)

To me it seems odd to try to satisfy a chocolate craving with green beans, lol! But eating fruit instead of other sweets is a good choice. What about pairing dark chocolate chips with dried fruit? What exactly is it about fruits and veggies that doesn't sound good to you? Do you like olives because they're salty? If so,…

I have tried 6+ types of birth control pill over the past 10 years. I had major side effects with every single one, but they were all different. Finally sick of it, I ditched the pill last July and got a copper IUD. A few months later, I found out I have PCOS. After I got off the pill it became really, really obvious. I'm…

Hey, mine were always soooo infrequent, and now I'm on a new birth control pill and I've been bleeding for three freaking weeks straight! I don't know a solution unfortunately, but I just wanted to sympathize. You might also want to talk to your doctor about an iron supplement since you are so tired, and you are losing…

cool! I'll look it up.

Lol, that's great! I've found that when I do get one now I am caught totally unprepared and constantly run out of tampons, because I never had to get used to buying them or having them with me!
-
You're right, I forgot to mention that! IUDs are generally not recommended if you have really really heavy periods, because there is a higher chance that it will slip out or move. Plus, for some people the copper IUD can make periods a little heavier and you definitely don't want that if they're so heavy already. I didn't…

I have the copper IUD (In the US it is called Paragard), and I love it. Originally I got off the birth control pill because I felt like the problems I had had in the 10 years I'd been taking it were clearly hormonal, and I blamed it on the pill because I always had bad side effects and had to switch brands like 10 times,…

Besides meat, I just wanted to say that you can mix beans or lentils into a lot of meat recipes to allow for a bit less meat, but with still lot of protein and fewer calories.

Strawberries and sunflower seeds! Also try adding some ruccola in there. And type of cheese can totally change up your salad. Try white cheddar this week, and crumbled goat cheese next week.

This lemon cream pasta with chicken is delicious! http://allrecipes.com/recipe/lemon-cream-pasta-with-chicken/detail.aspx It is VERY lemony though, so if you don't like that you can leave all of the lemon out and it is still delicious. That will use your chicken breasts and heavy cream. Then, try this recipe for pork…

A breakfast idea: Cut the pepper width-wise into rings. rub them with a tad olive oil and salt and sautee them in a pan on medium heat. When they start to get softer, turn the heat to low, crack an egg in the center and cover the pan with a lid. When the egg cooks through, top with a sprinkle of cheese and enjoy! A lunch…

I second (or fifth?) the suggestion of wrapping the asparagus in bacon, but I also love to spread the bacon (or prosciutto) with brie or neufchatel cheese before baking. The combo is delicious! I think sometimes people focus too much on vilifying certain foods instead of focusing simply on well-portioned, well-rounded…

Sorry if someone already said this: didn't have time to look through all the pages! Cook a few strips of bacon until well crispy in the bottom of a large pot. Remove the bacon and crumble it, then boil the cabbage in water in the same pot, scraping the bacon drippings off the bottom. When the cabbage is soft remove it from…

Learned this from a vegan co-worker when I worked the night shift at a diner: sautee a thinly sliced sweet potato in 1 tbsp honey until it's getting soft, and put on a peanut butter sandwhich. Delicious! My father-in-law loves the peanut butter and pickles thing!
-
Sometimes weird childhood snacks are still the perfect solution to cheap, high-protein, non-refrigerated snacks: ants on a log! Celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins :)
-
The first suggestion that comes to mind is peanut butter! There are great, healthy organic kinds with less sugar than the bigger brands that do not have to be refrigerated (but some do, so make sure). Peanut butter gets a bad reputation for some reason, but if you're not eating the whole jar in one sitting or anything, you…

My body went crazy after coming off the pill, which ultimately led to my diagnosis! You might want to talk to a doctor before going off it if your reason is to ttc. If it were me, I'd probably be inclined to try what someone else suggested about trying to conceive right after getting off it, while most of us are still…
