Savoury high-protein snack ideas

I crave savoury snacks rather than sweet and I'm looking to get more protein in my diet to replace greasy, high-GI crisps and the like. I also much prefer stuff that looks like real food than protein bars and drinks. What are good things to take to work bearing in mind a) I don't have access to a fridge so it'd have to be long-life or kept in my sandwich cool bag and b) I'm on a budget, so sadly extra chicken breasts and slices of lean beef would be a treat rather than a daily thing.
Crab-flavour surimi sticks hit the spot, but I've just put myself off with a glance at the ingredients list:
Surimi (40%) (White Fish, Sugar, Stabilisers (Sodium Triphosphate, Diphosphates), Dried Egg White),Water ,Wheat Starch ,Sugar ,Modified Tapioca Starch ,Salt ,Soya Bean Oil ,Flavourings ,Whole Egg ,Humectant (Sorbitol) ,Mirin ,Crab Seasoning (Crab Extract, Crab Flavouring, Sugar, Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein, Salt, Dextrin, Liquorice Extract) ,Colours (Carmine, Titanium Dioxide, Paprika Extract)
Blech!

Turkey Bites snacks are a favorite of mine, but he ingredient list is probably pretty scary too.0

I ate low carb for quite awhile so I have some go-to snacks that I brought with me to work all of the time. Most of these are reasonably priced, as well.
Nuts are great and don't need refrigeration.
String cheese, or cubed cheese, or sliced cheese or well, any kind of cheese.
Hard boiled eggs.
Some tinned tuna and mayo on seed crackers, or even better, eaten on celery sticks.
Beef jerky or turkey jerky. I usually portion it out into single servings in ziploc baggies. It takes awhile to chew so it's satisfying. The sodium count is a bit high and it's pricey so I didn't eat it too often.0 -

Sometimes weird childhood snacks are still the perfect solution to cheap, high-protein, non-refrigerated snacks: ants on a log! Celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins0

I second beef jerky.
It's cheaper if you make your own. Thinly slice 500g of a silverside or topside roast, then marinate overnight with a tablespoon of brown sugar, a teaspoon of garlic powder, and a couple of glugs of soy sauce. Arrange in a single layer of a baking sheet. Then pop it in at the lowest setting of a fan assisted oven (50C) for 4-6 hours until the jerky is leathery. The idea is to dehydrate the meat rather than cook it. Turn the meat half way.0 -
Since you were looking into fish somewhat as you considered surimi (I think that's what it was), what about a can of smoked oysters?
I love them. It's very savory and the ones I get are in oil for extra satisfaction. Drain oil well. It packs 22g of protein in 85 grams. Nice!
When I eat them, sometimes I need a little cracker to it. I get one serving of Walmarts oyster crackers. Sometimes that almost feels enough to be a meal!!0
