I typically alternate running & strength days. On the rarer occasion that I do combine them, I do strength first and plan an easier run after.

Interesting site. I noticed that when I played with the age in the formula, the numbers never changed, whether I entered 21, 55, or 90 for age. I wonder why they even bother asking age?

I was inspired by your thread last month. Although I only saw it last week, I accepted the challenge and logged in my diary as to if I met the challenge the night before. The little success each day is empowering. Thanks for starting this. I'm in for May!

I never allow myself to gain more than 10# (outside of pregnancy). I am back here because I wasn't careful about my eating when an injury sidelined my exercise and I gained 10#. It is my point of action. I don't mind a small fluctuation of weight depending on the time of year (holidays, birthdays, training for athletic…

A few years ago, one of my friends was quietly losing weight (not talking about it). I saw her frequently, and I didn't notice it. Then a mutual friend of ours, who sees her less frequently, commented to me about how great she looked and it was apparent that she lost a lot of weight. So then I asked her how much she lost,…

I started logging my food again, and did a short core & yoga workout. It is a fresh start....

I loved Nutella, when I was in high school and college, and it became a game of finding it in the few stores that carried it in the U.S. in the 90's. Now, it tastes too sweet to me, to the point that it makes my teeth hurt. I've gotten used to (and found I prefer) the chocolate Nuttzo over Nutella.

Joining in late at the ides of March (or there abouts) because I had been away for so long, and I need the accountability & support. Girl 41 5'3" CW:130 GW: 126 by 4/1/15 I'm a runner that has been sidelined (hopefully temporarily) by injury, my struggle this month is finding exercise that doesn't hurt. :(. I entered my…

If you are all ready in great shape, and weren't before your first pregnancy, you will have a better chance at losing the pregnancy weight. Ninkyou already gave great suggestions, to stay active and don't use pregnancy a an excuse to go overboard in your eating (you do need more calories, just not as many as most people…

Do you track your body measurements? I know if I put on an unhealthy 5# exactly where it shows up in terms of inches gained. I know if I have put on a healthy 5# because I don't have that gain of inches, but a slight increase of definition. The 6# could in part be due to the increase of strength training.

Of course great addition to 90's! Excellent! My mind keeps going to quotes from movies like Godfather, Rocky, Star Wars (original) and various Schwarzenegger movies. I think I need more coffee to think of the more recent stuff... My kids quote a lot of disney.

Is there ever a problem with the fluid trainers leaking? My local bike shop carries both Cycleops and Kurt. The green is cool, but the Cycleops is 20%off right now. Is there any reason to choose one over the other? The sale isn't so hugely significant that the price would sway me if for some reason the Kurt was the…

Monty Python is to the 1970's what Princess Bride was to the 1980's. (Have you at least seen Princess Bride?) Highly quotable, never gets old, always a classic, never out of style pop culture.... I was trying to think if there are any movies from the 90's & beyond that would make the cut to fit in with these two, but…

Hoping to lose the 8# I gained since summer. I'm kicking my workouts up a notch, and just cutting back on the boredom snacking habit I have somehow started.

On fueling, you don't have to have a running specific food, it just needs to be something that replenishes your energy stores and doesn't bother your stomach. The best thing is to experiment. I have a friend that takes bites of a chewy granola bar, and I take regular old jelly beans. As for timing, you want to make sure…

You've gotten a lot of great advice so far, that I won't repeat. Regarding what you say here: If it is a morning run, you need to get out at least once (preferably twice or more) for a practice morning run. Whether you eat or not, and how your morning goes can make a huge difference in your race experience. My friend…

Have you thought about getting a second opinion? Thinking back to your hm, where the problem began...how far did you run in your training prior to the race? If it was farther than 9km, and you were fine, maybe something else was going on during the race. How was your fueling? Is it possible that you weren't properly…

~~~*~~~~ONE LAST UPDATE~~~~*~~~ I did it! Saturday was the charity ride, and I did the 30mi route and was SO glad I did! I made a friend, another lady who is a runner first and cyclist second. (She is actually registered to run the same half marathon I'm running on Sunday!) We ended up doing the entire ride together, and…
Yes! I just tried paddle boarding in February for the first time. It was so much fun and a great core workout - with maintaining balance on the board and paddling at the same time. Give it a try! ETA: When we were out the water was a bit rough, making maintaining balance a challenge, and therefore a core workout. If the…
I love the classic pre-Goodtimes Firm! I've resurrected all my old workout VHS & DVD's to use again this year for something different. I log them as circuit training.
Cycling and running are two great forms of exercise that compliment one another. Don't compare them, there a too many factors...like the type of bike (as already mentioned), as well as terrain, expended effort, time spent, weather....
