  • Hi there! I'm not far from Ottawa. I don't know much about ketogenic, but I do know something about how to wear double long-johns to take my dog for walks in the winter
  • I'm trying to get back on track today and having a lot of negative feelings because of it. I consider myself as pretty disciplined person, but I had a friend visiting from out of down for a few days and found it hard to be really on top of planning and tracking and even exercising. Because of that, I let things slip. I'm…
  • Thanks for sharing! Your hard work and dedication are clear. Congrats on reaching your goal!
  • I read a really great article recently about the idea of your body's "set-point" and how it really is a long-term commitment if you want to change it. In a nutshell: Your body is happy where it is, and it really is a slow process to "re-train" it to be happy at another weight. So actually, if you lose weight slowly you're…
  • Added you :) :) I am recently-ish back on MFP and really liking the motivation of having some friends here. I am trying to post about my fitness journey as an aspiring long distance runner who is also trying to lose ~20 lbs. Otherwise, I just like hearing from other people as well!
  • Friends please!!! I'm loving building a network on here of people who are in different situations, and trying to focus on healthy living. Feel free to add me :)
  • Hey there! I can relate to the way that races can mess with your head a little bit, and I struggle to keep my head out of my way even during training. This is what I tell myself: Even professionals have good and bad runs, and good and bad races. "Picking yourself up" after a perceived failure is part of the work of being a…
  • Well done!!! I am starring down my first-ever 10K and my first race in about 5 years. It's nice to "meet" others in the same situation!
  • Hey everyone! I'm new to the group and find the posts very motivating, and helpful. I've recently started running again after not really running at all for 2 years. I'm scheduled to run a 10K in Ottawa on May 28. It's coming up quick! I mainly signed up to help motivated me to stick to a training plan. While I'm certain I…
  • Canadian crew!! Former Torontonian living in the Ottawa valley here. Feel free to add me :) I love my growing community of friends. It's great motivation.
  • Hey everyone! Getting back into fitness and trying to eat well. Add me!!
  • If i'm cooking veggies in a tbsp of extra virgin olive oil, do i add it to my food diary as "1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil"? Do all the calories of the oil get absorbed into the food? How do you guys deal with what you've cooked your food in?
  • Yayyyyyy!!!  Congrats!
  • Nice! Well done!!
  • Thanks for the advice Joselem! I'll mix up the workout routine... although I'm so bad at that. I'll see what i can do. Also trying to up my cals a little bit... tack on an extra 200-300 cal snack. I haven't hit a plateau quite yet, just posted because as i was adjusting my goals, I noticed that my BMR would go down, but…
  • Thanks for the links Banks... glad i decided to check in with MFP today. I'll read these and make a custom goal option. Much appreciated!!
  • Wow - i had no idea. I guess I should start eating a little more... It's strange because I've always used the guided 'goal' option on MFP and 1200 constantly came up. Thanks for the advice!
  • Hey all! I can't wrap my brain around MFP's suggested calorie intake system. As i lose weight, i've been adjusting my goals so that my 'new' bmr is taken into account. But the thing is, I don't think it is? I've had a suggested intake of 1200 cals since I started MFP (12 lbs ago, and I've lost about 15 lbs overall). Is it…
  • Hi all! I dropped about 12 lbs using MFP ... the most healthy 12 lbs I've ever lost. I took a week "off" - went out for drinks with friends, had cheesy omeletty breakfasts, etc etc. I still kept my activity level up (i.e. taking the metro as little as possible while running 4 days this week) and was vaguely mindful about…
  • Have you been drinking enough water? A lot of the time if i'm hungry at odd times my body's usually needing water.
  • Aw! Thanks this really helps. I spent the past couple months running 3-4 times a week, sometimes 5-6 times, and slowed down once 'real life' started again. You're right - it's about long term and as long as i keep my mind on that, then my measurements today dont stress me out that much.
  • Hey! Thanks for the reply! I'm glad i'm not the only one. I guess it'll have to be those last 10 lbs that make the difference. And yes, you're definitely right - i hate strength training, but i'll get back on it this week. As far as losing weight... actually it's funny because for about a month I didnt lose anything at…
  • Yah you really should eat your exercise calories, in my opinion. At least most of them. I try to stay within 100 cals of my food diary suggested daily cals. The drawback is, you might start to lose weight faster right away, but your body will try to balance as it'll go into conservation mode. It's like crash dieting -- you…
  • I have heard that belly fat is the hardest to lose! Ha ha i tried to ignore it, but yes that definitely makes sense. I'm going to start weight training. I loooove running and go our at least 3-4 times a week, but never go to the actual gym to lift weights anymore. *sigh* i guess it's that time again! thanks!! .kat
  • Could be! The body is a strange thing... likes to maintain balance and resist change sometimes. If you keep at it, the weight will come off as your body realizes it doesnt need the extra weight to protect itself. (Also the reason why crash dieting doesn't work... slow weight loss is sustained weight loss) Also, yes up the…

  • This is going to be second hand info, but I was talking to my mum about dieting, and she mentioned an article where they sort of assessed the factors that contribute to ongoing weightloss. People who ate bigger breakfasts (including a small amount of chocolate!) lost as much as those who ate small breakfasts for the first…
  • Hey there! Nice to meet you. MFP has been great for me... I especially love the little lbs counter, and obviously the food diary. And the 'free' factor  Good luck with your goal! Keep us posted.

  • So! I just noticed on my counter that it looks like I've dropped 11 lbs... I've got about 5-10 more that I want to lose, but am pretty hyped about where I am at the moment. I can't believe it every time i step on the scale and the numbers just keep going down... The thing is, despite having lost said 11 lbs, I have lost…
  • I like the vanilla almond and rice milks... A little bit of cinnamon or fruit w/ either of them is pretty good

  • Yeow! I miss the interweb  I've been computer-less for the past few days because of moving. But i have not been running-less! I have a running partner! One of my friends agreed to start running with me in the mornings! We've done this for the past 2 days and it's been awesome to have someone around to pep things…
