  • Thanks for the info! I will check that out.
  • A few friends and I just signed up for this. Looks like a ton of fun!
  • I don't really know the differences between the FT4 and FT7. I have the FT7 and it has been great. One of the best tools I have used for fitness.
  • I use a Polar HRM and it has been a great addition to my workout. Make sure you use a monitor that has a chest strap. The HRMs that are just the watch portion aren't as accurate. I have noticed when I workout that there is a difference between the machine and what my HRM says (HRM is usually higher). I started 10k…

  • I have been on this journey on and off for a while now. With the help of MFP, I have had my best year yet. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that you probably aren't going to hit your goal tomorrow. Some days you are looking at your goals 6 months to a year out. Other days, it is just about getting to the…
  • I have a Polar FT7. Its a decent price with all the features I wanted. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. There are some with more features though. So, it all depends on what you want.
  • Congrats on all of your running accomplishments! I just started running myself. Started with C25K, first 5k was in October and now am going to run a turkey trot (5 miles) on Thanksgiving. Going to wait until next year for the half marathon.
  • Definitely get fitted for a proper pair of running shoes. Went from hating running to loving it once I got my new pair of shoes. C25K is a great program. I could barely run a few minutes at the start of the year, now I entered a 5 mile race for next week. You can do it!
  • Not sure if it would help, but I buy Pure Protein powder from Target. It is $18 and lasts me about a month or two if I use it only after I lift.
  • Hi! Don't be shy, MFP is a great place to share ideas, victories and frustrations about your journey. Please don't hesitate to ask questions, everyone here is really supportive and they have helped me a lot on my journey so far. Feel free to add me as a friend! You can do this!
  • What sorts of equipment do you have available? Are you a gym member? Or do you workout at home? I good cardio workout to start with is the C25K program, gets you running and you don't need to belong to a gym.
  • Congrats! Working with a trainer can be great! I absolutely love working with my trainer. She pushes you through more intense workouts, builds in different exercises and motivates you. It is night and day for me how much I get out of a workout when I train by myself, vs with my trainer. Much better workout with my trainer.…
  • I would agree with Krissie_Triaxis, your body loses weight where it wants to. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, no diet or one specific exercise will cause you to lose belly fat. Watch what you eat and get some cardio/strength training in and that will get you on your way.
  • I would agree with capriciousmoon. Count the calories as normal salami. I would also keep in mind the sodium content though.
  • I stock up on Pure Protein bars every week! They are my go to protein bar. Eat one nearly every day. Have definitely lost weight with them. Agree with what others have said, they aren't the main reason for my weight loss. I use them as a snack between meals.
  • Sorry to hear that you hit a plateau. It happens from time to time. I have hit a few. Personally 2 things worked for me. 1.) I changed my exercise routine (picked up running) 2.) I ate MORE. I found out that my body wasn't getting the fuel it needed so it was trying to hold on to everything. I would try adding calories to…
  • I haven't used the App. When I got into the final weeks of C25K, I wanted to carry less stuff with me, so I picked up a HRM. Really helped me to time my workout, as well as pushed me to be better and burn more cals.

  • Just graduated C25k this past weekend. I have never been considered a runner, ever. C25k is a fantastic program!
  • I would agree with a lot of what has already been said. You are going to the gym for you, not for anyone else. I have also found that at my gym, once you hit a routine and become a regular, you demonstrate to everyone that you are making the commitment. Everyone starts at a different place and we all work at a different…
  • I have Pure Protein bars. Pretty decent counts on cals/sugar/carbs. Decent price as well. There are tons of options out there, but these have been the best balance so far.
  • Weightlifting is a great thing to add to your routine! I don't have a routine to share with you, but I will say that if you have the opportunity to work with a trainer even just once or twice, it can really help. I started with weight lifting on my own and it was ok. But once I started working with a trainer, they really…
  • I love my HRM. Quite simply, I love having the info that it provides while I am working out. It is one of the reasons why I actually enjoy running now. Instead of being just really worn out after running, I am really worn out and know how many calories I burnt. It also makes me work harder during my workouts. When I was…
  • Hi Victor, this is a great place to be. Great support and wonderful friends. Good luck with your journey!
  • I would agree with luv2ash. This process takes time. I have had 3 runs at losing this weight in the past 3 years. The first 2 I tried to hit goal in 4 months. First it went really quickly, but then I stopped losing weight, got frustrated and quit. Now, with MFP and a good plan it has taken me roughly 9 months to lose 40…
  • Just bought a new pair of Asics and love them. However, I would suggest going to a running store that evaluates how you walk/run and they can make sure you get the correct shoe. Because something that works for one person won't always work for the next.
  • I just got a new pair of shoes yesterday. Not sure what type of workouts you are doing. I purchased a pair of Asics for running since I started the C25K program. I would go to a good running shoe store. They watched how I walked/ran and helped me pick out the appropriate shoe. My feet feel so much better with my new shoes.
  • I weigh myself once a week, in the morning. Day to day my weight fluctuates, and can be discouraging. Weighing in once a week is a good check for me to make sure that I am progressing.
  • Great work that is awesome! Keep it up, good days and bad we are always here!
  • I definitely agree with Michelle_M2002, if you can get your protein naturally, that is definitely a priority. But for me, in order to get the protein I want, I have been adding a bar or protein powder as a last resort. Again, not a professional nutritionist, just my thoughts on what I have done so far.
  • Pure Protein bars are a staple in my routine. Low cals, high protein and low sugar. Cheap enough to justify, and are available at Target. Just my 2 cents.
