Athena, Make *sure* you get your RMR tested under ideal conditions. 20 minutes of being purely still, no distractions, preferrably lying down and with a mask that doesn't allow leaks. Many of the RMR machines at gyms are incredibly inaccurate. Do a google search and you'll see folks - even gym employees - saying that…

I think you mean untreated hyperthyroidism.

Albuterol won't cause any significant weight loss. But surely won't make you gain it either.
-
That upwards of 75% of the posts here are misinformed or downright noise, often just parroting things read in other posts. That said, yours is actually full of useful information.

BMF bases BMR on the inflated Harris-Benedict equation. Go look at Haybales' spreadsheet to adjust your BMF TDEE downwards, often by 200 points.
-
I know someone who slowly stopped Effexor (and you should be doing it slowly). And it took a bit of time for her body to become "normal" but she began to lose weight again.
-
If your TDEE figure you posted was calculated with a "sedentary" multiplier, then yes, you eat up to that point as it represents your normal expenditure.

So in anywhere from 10 days to six weeks, if someone drops from eating their usual 3500 calories to 2100, they are hitting starvation mode? Right.
-
No problem. You'll just be in starvation mode on those days. :)
-
Edit: Nevermind. Everything I wrote about was discussed in the posts proceeding the one I quoted and responded to. But it's nice to realize that I'm not crazy for seeing BMR as nothing but a number to get to TDEE. Nothing more.
-
BMF uses the Harris-Benedict equation for its initial BMR assessment which is the worst equation to use for people who are overweight. The result TDEE is often overestimated as a result. Go to Heybales' spreadsheet as it has a calculator that adjusts the BMF TDEE using your BF and the Katch-McCardle equation for BMR.

One of the best, if not the best, thread I have read on here. I need to stop listening to morons who parrot things they know nothing about.
-
Thanks Christina!
-
yup
-
If you don't eat back your calories, I'm willing to bet you netted below your BMR regularly.
-
Take the guesswork out of the equation. Get an RMR testing done. I'm going to do so. For $100, I'll know what my BMR which a high degree of accuracy is, and can calculate my TDEE from there. Playing roulette with the calculators sn't worth it, IMHO.
-
Be warned. BMF uses the Harris-Benedict Equation for calculations, which can grossly inflate its estimation of your BMR, leading to an overestimation of your burned calories. Please see Haybales' excel spreadsheet to adjust the numbers to more accurate ones (assuming you have your BF%, which you should as it is essential…

Some days, I just leave my thong on.

Wow, I get home and there's a ton of responses! Guess I struck a nerve. I'm thankful for all the responses, especially for the fact that its drawn some very intelligent folks out of the wood work, many of whom I am hoping to add as MFP friends on this journey. The reason I had asked was because I have been eating at BMR…

Absolutely, not questioning that. If someone's BMR was 2000 and they were 350lbs overweight, and instead of eating 4500 calories a day, they suddenly dropped to 2100, that would be, by all accounts, a drastic diet. But it's still above BMR! So technically no problems should exist. Just pointing out how I don't understand…

No, it has nothing to do with education! If I was actually educated in this arena, I wouldn't be asking the questions, so rest assured that I am most definitely not. My reasons for asking is that I am trying to take a good, hard look at the principles espoused in this Community, and I feel that some of the fundamental…

EatSmart Scale is extremely affordable and blindingly accurate. Just check the Amazon reviews. Very well known for this.

I'm a male and I liked Roseanne more. Not a huge fun, but there was at least an attempt to have some depth to the people. Seinfeld was an annoying bunch, doing the old woody-allen, whiny, neurotic humor.

It doesn't. Sodium merely causes water retention, which can mask any loss, but it doesn't.

What are the long term ramifications of taking ephedrine?
-
Fair enough. Amphetamines and the like still seem to be prescribed despite having extremely dangerous side effect profiles. I think pat of the reason DNP isn't marketed is that it isn't patentable, and therefore there is no interest by Big Pharma in trying to turn it into a sellable product. I'm shocked that Phentermine is…

There are tons of folks who've achieved successful weight loss with low-level use of dinitrophenol. I wouldn't say its playing with your life. The reason they are banned is because the gap in "therapeutic" use and "death" is small enough that you'll have legions of people with the more-is-better attitude dying as a result…
-
There *are* magic pills, but their safety profile isn't so great. Not worth the risk.

I'm not into ladies who's thighs don't touch. I've always found that weird.
