  • RAWR! I completed my running goal for this week, finishing up with a 10 miler this morning. Great job, everyone!
  • Week complete! My goal: run at least 3 times per week, with a 3 mi minimum to count. I did a 3 mi trail run Wednesday, 4.56 mi (including an "urban invasion" obstacle course) yesterday, and 7.2 mi today. My semester is nearly over, which will be a huge help for my midweek runs. RAWR!
  • Just wanted to check in and that I'm still on board. My week in the field was very challenging at times, but wonderful overall. I'm struggling to meet my goals this week due to lingering exhaustion and extra long work hours trying to deal with crises that occurred while I was out (9 am to 11 pm yesterday, woohoo!). Still,…
  • Great job, all!!
  • Week 1 done. 4 runs over 3 mi, including a 7.7 miler today. I'll be off the grid for week 2. I'm bringing my running shoes into the wilderness, but I may not be able to get away from my students for real runs. I'm giving myself credit anyway. It'll be enough hours hiking with a pack each day to honor the spirit of the…
  • Goal: Now fewer than 3 runs per week. A run must be 3 miles minimum to count. Track: Endomondo will post to my wall for friends. I will check in here for the group. I rarely use MFP on a real computer, so this will be part of the challenge. Reward: pedicure Caveat: I will be hiking/camping in the desert with students for…
  • I ran my first half in November, and I'm signed up for my first full marathon for Labor Day weekend! In general, I'm not very active on the forums, but I'm a supportive friend -- feel free to add me. :)
  • Great job! I agree with the others that the mental block doesn't really go away -- every time I run, I still question whether I can do it. Like a lot of others, my first 1-1.5 miles is the hardest. Way to push through your barriers and find yourself successful on the other side!!! Now that you know you can do it, you can…
  • Suddenly I find myself looking up flights to Jamaica.... Sounds amazing!
  • Ditto to what Varda wrote. I have to fight my heel-striking tendencies all the time and consciously think about using a mid-foot strike. It will feel really weird at first, but it will be more comfortable and efficient in the long run. As you put on more miles, consider getting checked at a running store for over pronation…
  • This is pure awesome! Thank you so much for sharing, Varda. I love that you felt bad about letting down your shoes! Your fantastic run helps me tame my nerves for my half on Saturday -- which I WILL finish and I WILL get that sticker for my car! (It will be my only bumper sticker, but it will be there because I…
  • Awesome updates, all! Good luck to those of you with races this weekend! Btsinmd already gave a great answer, but I want to toss in my 2 cents. My dogs are on a schedule, but they will still poop unexpectedly -- particularly the big one in my profile pic, and especially while running. When I take her with me, I always…
  • Amazing! Huge congrats to you on your successes! Thank you so much for sharing with us.
  • Way to go, both and the running and biking! I'm totally jealous of your hardware!
  • Add me to the grinning hi-5's over the easy 3 5K's! Great job!
  • Sometimes, bad days happen even without any obvious reasons. I had a 5K race earlier this summer that was terrible: despite running ~16 miles per week, I couldn't actually run the entire way through that 5K and thought I was going to collapse out there in a sweaty, stiff-muscled heap. I was a cranky mess afterwards (and…
  • Bragging about a huge running victory: Yesterday morning I went out for the second time with the local ladies running group and A) FINALLY got past 6 miles and B) somehow got to 6.95 miles with a 9:40 pace! (My ~5.8 mile runs previously were at around 12:00, so that was a serious jump -- all the way down to my 5K race…
  • Brilliant! I love it.
  • Awesome piece. May we all find our Gerrys and, in the end, be that person for someone else coming up behind us.
  • First, let me agree with everyone on the value of getting yourself fitted. My husband was fitted for his shoes, and it was the first time in years that he has been able to run without crushing foot pain. Now that that's out of the way, let me confess that I have not been fitted myself. We live in a small town hours from…
  • Great job, guys! Woodwardtm -- that's a kick-butt 5K time! Great job! Don't let the increases get you down. It threw me at first, too, but I got back into the right rhythm and it feels awesome. You have a 10K in you!

  • Slowing down is normally a great idea at this stage. We really want to get faster and increase endurance all at the same time, but I've learned the hard way that I have to focus on one or the other at a time. I've tried the 3in/2 out breathing, and I really struggled with it. Apparently, I'm no good at counting while…
  • Congratulations, you guys! I can't wait to join you guys in the graduates circle. Thank you so much for sharing your successes on here. It's really inspiring for those of us coming up behind you in the program!

  • I agree with lizsmith1976 that it will probably help a lot to stretch of jog while your son is using the bathroom. If that isn't possible, allow yourself a lap or so walking once you get back to the track to re-prime your legs after the break in running. For me, and many others, taking a break while building endurance for…
  • Days 2 and 3 done! On Day 2, I felt incredible! I felt so strong the entire time that I even did some fartlek running in the last interval and altered my route to run up the hill next to my house instead of saving it for my cool down. I was even cheered on by some random people in the neighborhood. Yeah! Total distance:…

  • Ha! Thank y'all for rocking my world! I'm going to go work on my 5 minutes of raspberry ketones/fasting/3 lb weights/juice cleansing/coffee enemas to get my own amazing results! Such inspiration! :drinker:
  • Congrats SweetGamer17 and Megster4359! Welcome to the running club! :drinker:
  • It was frustrating. I totally started out too fast, but it didn't actually feel faster at the time. I need to leave work soon so that I can make an attempt at day 2. Happy first day of school to any other educators out there!
