  • I count tea, both hot and cold, and any kind of sparkling water, flavored or not. I don't drink coffee but I would count that as well. I wouldn't count juices, sodas or alcoholic beverages for sure. Any liquids that have calories I do list in my food log.
  • I noticed when I lived in Europe the largest meal of the day was often in the middle of the day. Having the big meal in the evening is an American concept. My grandparents were farmers and they tended to have a big breakfast and dinner in the middle of the day and a lighter meal in the evening. I have gotten so I don't…
  • I have been prepping breakfast and sometimes lunch. My husband does dinner so I'm at his mercy. Often lunch is leftovers from dinner or I will make up something on Sundays that I can put in the freezer, I too, prefer my veggies raw so I will cut up cucumbers, carrots, celery, etc. Or I will make up a big chopped salad and…
  • I went with my sister and two kids. We had reservations at a couple restaurants for a sit down dinner but other than that we ate at the parks. We found we just weren't that hungry most of the time. We would often order a meal and share it between two of us. For breakfast we would pick up some pastries at one of the bake…
  • It's been a while since I've been to either. Drink lots of water. There are a lot of food options, you can even get fresh fruit at many places for snacks. You will do a lot of walking. I found a book on Disney, I'm not sure about Universal, and read up on the parks. That way we could pick out what we wanted to make sure to…
  • A mimosa for me, Cristal preferred.
  • I don't think it's as much that the metformin is working as it's not doing as much as it should. My doctor put me on Janumet which is metformin with another diabetic drug, I don't remember off hand what is was. I am also on lantus once a day. I was started at 20 units a day slowly increased then decrease to 30 units a day.…
  • My go to's for making ahead and freezing are various soups, chili, stew, meatloaf, and casseroles. I also make overnight oatmeal head of time for breakfasts. I have made Greek yogurt and fruit parfaits that I can grab out of the refrigerator and add a bit of granola before eating. I'll have that for breakfast or a snack. I…
  • As far as fixing meals for you and hubby with different needs, make the foods you can or want to eat and serve yourself a portion. You may need to add something just for hubby but he doesn't have to be limited to the same size portion as what you are eating. If what is being fixed is not enough, add a salad or clear soup…
  • I'm going to try to register at the local community college this summer, if I can get into the class!
  • I was going to the local Y for water aerobics at least 3 times a week when I was in my late 20s and early 30s. At the time I was a stay at home mom and was able to go in the morning, I was the youngest in the class by about 30-40 years. There was another you lady who came for a while who was also in her 20s. I did it all…
  • I was pre-diabetic and had high blood pressure. I was kind of trying to lose the weight, not very hard. Over two years I lost about 30 lbs. I got divorced and started looking around, again, I sort of was trying to lose some weight. I met someone and it was getting serious, we did get married and talked about being able to…
  • There is a bakery here in town that has a giant wand hanging from their ceiling with a sign that says "Wave your pastry under the wand and it will magically remove the calories." This makes about as much sense as many of the supposed "scientific" thoughts that are spouted about food/nutrition/weight loss. I find as much on…
  • I usually have Greek yogurt for breakfast or a snack. I add a little honey, fresh fruit, and granola for breakfast. You can also try a little maple syrup, cinnamon, or vanilla; or any combination. I do try to stay away from the flavored yogurts as they have too much sugar for me. You can find many recipes that use Greek…
  • I find that I do well during the week with 3 meals and a couple snacks. On the weekend I don't always eat enough. I have my granddaughters both evenings and sometimes I don't eat dinner and if I get busy cleaning in the morning sometimes I forget to eat breakfast. I do tend to graze throughout the day so I usually get…
  • I don't follow any particular plan, just adjust my calories. I did not eat a lot of veggies or fruits so I have been slowly adding them to my daily routine. I do like salads and will often have a salad for lunch or dinner. No food is off limits but I tend to eat some things less often or in less amounts. I do tend to stay…
  • The most calories comes from the bread. If you use a low calorie bread like Sara Lee 45 calorie a slice, you will be as low in calories as you can get. What you put on top of it will add calories as well. I have always liked putting applesauce on my pancakes, waffles, and French toast. If I make French toast I only have 1…
  • All vegetables contain carbs. The only foods that don't have any carbs are meat and fish. There are some vegetables that are low carb, you will have to look them up. There are many listings on the web for low carb foods.
  • Great advice from 999tiger! Depending on how much you want to lose, you may want to break it up into smaller goals so you can feel some success as you go along. Losing 10-20 lbs is a lot less intimating that looking at 50 lb or more! If you can preplan your meal and snacks for the day it can help you stay on track. If you…

  • There has been a lot of research that show eggs do not signification increase a person's cholesterol, in fact it has been show that diet does not have much affect on cholesterol. If you like eggs, go ahead and eat them. They are high in protein and fairly low in calories.
  • As a diabetic breakfast is an important part of maintaining fairly level blood glucose levels. Just because it's breakfast doesn't mean you have to eat traditional breakfast food. I remember having hot dogs for breakfast when I was in high school.
  • You have set your ultimate goal as 70 lbs by the end of the year. Break that down to smaller goals, as you meet each of the small goals you will have a little victory, treat yourself to to something you would like--nonfood. Then set your next little goal. Maybe break the 220 point by a certain date. Each goal you make will…
  • If you are going out to a "chain" restaurant you can go on the internet and find their menu and nutritional information. That way you can plan ahead for what you can order that will fit in with your daily goals. My husband is hooked on Famous Dave's barbeque and almost everything on their menu is almost my daily allowance!…
  • I make chicken tacos pretty much the same as others on this page have said. I have found that the tortillas and/or taco shells are pretty high in calories and carbs so I tend to make a chicken taco salad instead of eating it as a taco. Or I may make one taco and have a second serving as a salad.
  • You are the only one who can figure it out. No one is going to be able to tell you what to do unless you are willing to do the work. There is no "magic bullet." Personally I like salads and have them quite often for lunch as well as a side dish. There are plenty of lean meats you can include in your meal plan as well as…
  • Depending upon what kind of soup you are eating you can had half a sandwich made with rye bread or a sandwich thing. Sara Lee makes whole wheat and multi grain bread that is only 45 calories a slice. Hummus or guacamole with veggies to dip, or add it to your sandwich. Salads are another standby for me. Lots of veggies with…
  • I was told that 80 is the low end of what a fasting BG should be. I look at between 80 and 120.
  • I tried it and just like the other non sugar sweeteners it has a nasty aftertaste. I will use sugar, honey, or real maple syrup and account for the calories in my daily allowance.
  • How about those that think it's "sugar" diabetes and it comes from eating too much candy.
  • I have been diagnosed with T2 diabetes and currently my A1C is 5.6. My doctor thinks that is a bit too low so I'm confused as well. I do test my fasting BG and lately it's been in the mid to high 90s with an occasional 102. Prior to the last month or so it was running in the 120-130 range which I thought was high,…
