  • Phantom, King & I, Oklahoma...new fav= The Book of Mormon !!!
  • I need a cuppa cof and some free time to look this over. I have a PolarFT4 and I've been thinking I need to change the settings merely to reflect a few lbs weight loss.
  • I have the Polar FT4. Basic, not complicated. Keeps track of cals burned and heart rate during exercise so you can step up or ease off your efforts. LOVE it!
  • If the workouts are strictly leg-centric (mostly lunges, squats, lower body) I would switch it up to alternate w/ an upper body (shoulder, arms, chest) workout. Or wade in slowly w/ an every other day workout. Off days you can do walking/cardio.
  • My daughter's favorite saying is, "I'm not too good at giving advice, but may I offer you a sarcastic comment?" And she is only 15 years old. I raised her well. Loved your post. A breath of fresh air in this forum of rainbow puke and crap. Particularly loved the reply telling you that your food diary sucked. That was…
  • I know it's a comedy, but "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" when Steve Martin realizes that John Candy has no where to go and races back to find him! Or even the scene w/ the old man/neighbor reuniting w/ his family for Christmas in "Home Alone." John Hughes was a genius film maker to be able to swing the emotional pendulum.
  • Cirque shows are GREAT! #1 on the list should be "LOVE", #2 "KA", # 3 "Mystere". If your into a racier show, check out hypnotist Anthony Cools at Paris. "Phantom of the Opera" is fabulous, too.
  • Alex P. Keaton's sister Mallory was played by Justine Bateman/ or the younger sister, Jennifer, played by Tina Yothers. Tracy Gold was on Growing Pains playing Carol Seaver.
  • I have always been told Meredith Baxter Birney (the Mom in Family Ties) or Jill Clayburgh when I am not as blonde.
  • Polar FT4 is pretty basic. I got mine at Sports Authority for about $60 bucks. You wear a watch that communicates w/ a connector that snaps onto the chest strap. Wet the electrode sensors on the chest strap, snap on the connector, fasten the strap around your upper rib cage and press start on the watch. It's THAT simple!!
  • Power 90 is great and not really that intense. It's like a beginners version of P90X. VERY DO-ABLE!! I like that it alternates sculpt one day, cardio the next. The routines can be a bit boring as they repeat, but that's ok. Tony Horton is HOT! 30 day Shred was hard for my knees, and Jillian moves from floor to standing too…
  • I'm trying to eat "clean" and cut out white/refined sugar. I've switched to 100% maple syrup (1 Tbs) and real half & half (2 Tbs) in a BIG 16 oz cuppa coffee. It's got a yummy sweetness that may help you get off the processed creamers. Check out thegraciouspantry.com. All about "eating clean", and the woman who runs it is…

  • OMG! My sister used to live in Irving, now she's in Corinth. I talked her into joining MFP but I don't think she's too regular. Her profile is Gables59 (I think)...If you friend me you can see her on MY friend list. She's 51 and a full time nanny. I'll bet she could use a buddy!
  • Can your Dr. refer you to a physical therapist? Even if it's only a few sessions they could work you out w/ consideration of your medical issues AND maybe insurance would cover some/all of the cost? From the Physical Therapist you may be able to get the name of a Personal Trainer that they would recommend.
  • I tried a spin class thru my park district's fitness center. It was very difficult for me cuz I'm not used to standing while pedaling. It had a bounce at the downbeat which I couldn't get the rythym of... The instructor was great tho, taking into account my newbie status. Be careful of the toe clip/fitted area on the…
  • I'm 5'6 and my goal is 135-140. I once heard of a basic way to calculate weight like this...for a 5' person, start w/ 100 lbs and for every additional inch add 5 lbs. So, for instance...someone who is 5' 8 inches tall should be 100 + 40 lbs. This method is very archaic, tho and doesn't really take other factors into…
  • Have you ever tried "Better N Peanut Butter?" 100 cals for 2 Tablespoons. Only 2 gr fat and the low sodium only has 95mg of sodium. It's available at Trader Joes for about 5$ per 16 oz jar. It is mostly made from peanut flour. I prefer it to the slippery, slimy feel of Skippy, etal. Google it...
  • I bought P90 (not P90X) becuse it was described as a less intense version of P90X. I find it VERY do-able. Like any workout DVD it can become repetitive, and some complain "boring" but I like th "boot-camp" type of exercises. You can easily modify it w/ varying/increasing handweights. I have about 15 lbs to lose and I was…
  • Patience is the key. I think you are doing great so far! Weight on the scale can fluctuate up to 5 lbs during any given day depending on a lot of factors. Just keep going. Drink all your water, try to cut down on sweets and sodium. I'm guilty of being VERY lazy, but we all need to get up and move. Good luck. MFP is a cool…
  • Woo-Woo! Good for YOU!! I'm on day 27 of P90 and loving it! I haven't seen any real pounds drop, yet...but I am only looking to lose 10-15 total. I need to reign in my sugar and sodium to see better results. I do feel firmer, stronger. I'll be going to Vegas in 3 weeks and I'm bringing the Fat Burning Express DVD with me…
  • I bought the Power 90 (not to be confused w/ P90X) workout DVD's. I LOVE them. I was always interested in P90X from the info-mercials, but knew it would be too hard. The Power 90 is like a starter version. Very Do-able. Maybe look to your public library to borrow fitness DVD's, or try On Demand if you have that option on…
  • I bought P90 (Power 90...NOT P90X). I am LOVING it. It was billed as a "starter version" of P90X, not as intense. The DVD's include a level 1-2 Sculpt and Cardio/Abs to use on alternating days, and after you feel proficient you move up to level 3-4. I'm about 20 days in and it's going GREAT! There are alternate moves and…
  • Hello All. My name is Joan and I started the Power 90/"Fat burning Express" last week. Completed 6 days of that w/ Sunday as my rest day. Today, Mon 5/2, I began w/ Power 90 Sculpt Circuit 1-2. I was able to complete it at prob 85% effort level...would have been 100% if not for pushups. I will have to build up there. Also,…
  • Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. Men are not big communicators, esp if it involves conveying feelings. If you want validation, you must tell him so. Sort of like telling him what you like in bed...he won't know until you LET him know. I know the frustration of email responses, too. My husb will not even type in a…
  • Vita tops & muffins are GREAT! Even my daughters love them. The corn bread variety is dry & tasteless, the cran-bran are Great. My girls like any of the choc kind. Other than having to purchase a large amt, they are fabulous. They DO freeze/thaw well, so make sure you have some room in the freezer! Good Luck
  • Are you guys talking about P90 as in "Power 90" or P90 X? I was poking around the Beachbody website and saw that Power90 is a starter version for those not fully ready for the intensity of P90X. I am semi-interested, but I KNOW P90X would be too tough for me.
  • I have only done Jillian's Level 1 of the 30 day Shred. (it's the only level available free on my On Demand...) but I enter/log the workout as "Circuit training" for 25 mins. Good Luck. Hope this helps.
  • Try this exercise to strengthen knees: Stand against a wall and slide your back down til your knees are in a 90 degree angle. Hold position for 30-60 seconds. Repeat 2 or 3 times. Do this throughout the day. Try for every 2 or 3 hours. Also, do your feet have low arches? Flat feet can pronate inward causing misalignment in…
