What exactly is spinning? Is it similar to an exercise bike? I googled it and watched some youtube videos..but, I didn't see overweight people who were spinning.. Is it a good workout?

Spinning is an exercise bike. It is basically a stationary road style bike. You can set the tension on the wheel to simulate uphill climbs and such. We own one for when the weather is bad and we can't get outdoors. It is great because you can exercise and watch TV at the same time . You can make the workout as intense or easy as you want.0

I am very overweight & I spin. For me it is great exercise and a huge calorie burner since I'm not quite yet ready for running. All types can do it---- you change the tension and do what you can by listening to your own body.0

I tried a spin class thru my park district's fitness center. It was very difficult for me cuz I'm not used to standing while pedaling. It had a bounce at the downbeat which I couldn't get the rythym of... The instructor was great tho, taking into account my newbie status. Be careful of the toe clip/fitted area on the pedals where your foot fits...my foot slipped out of mine and gouged the crap out of my shin! Out of embarrassment I kept on thru the hour long class and wound up w/ a HUGE swollen bloody gash. Sheepish, I never took another class. I envy people who can do it.0
