  • I swear by coconut water. 90 Calories for 17 oz, and twice the potassium as a banana. Plus it has TONS of electrolytes. If you have issues with muscle spasms, it's definitely the way to go. After that I just make sure I eat a good meal.
  • I think it's just a matter of it being easier to measure before it's cooked. Now what I don't understand is how popcorn loses calories when it's popped!
  • If you anticipate burning 800 calories it might be worth it to try to eat those calories throughout the day before your workout. That's just my preference, I tend to have a harder time with my workout if I don't eat some of those calories beforehand. To be honest, I'm not sure why mfp has a daily caloric intake limit as…
  • Water and fiber. Also, if you can spare the calories I usually have success by eating an avocado - mmm, mono and polyunsaturated fats!
  • I was just about to write this. WEIRD! Anyway, if you have a really nice balsamic vinegar, this is truly fantastic. I would highly recommend.
  • I'll usually burn more calories on the elliptical, but I find that I get a better endurance training/cardio workout on the treadmill. But then again, part of my goal is to get better at running, not just to lose weight. If you have problems like flat feet, shin splints, bad knees/hips, etc. I would go with the elliptical…
  • Wow, this is actually a fantastic idea! Definitely going to give this one a shot. Thanks!
  • Thanks for this one - very interesting. And I feel better now :) I'll definitely make sure I eat enough today (yet another rough workout ahead of me after work). I think it's a good day for an extra whole wheat pancake!
  • I think you would be surprised how much a "healthy" grocery list will cost you. It's all the processed stuff that costs an arm and a leg. If you can, buy your produce at a local farmer's market or coop. That will certainly help. Also, take the time on the weekend (if only an hour) to get a head start on your weekday meals.…
  • If it's helping you get your fluids in, I say go for it. But if you can do without, I'd say reserve it as a special treat. Just my opinion :P
  • Hydrogenated oils = bad, but butter is still loaded with saturated fats. Just because it's the lesser of two evils doesn't mean it's a good fat. Try using olive oil, full of unsaturated/polyunsaturated goodness :) You can even try a blend of butter and olive oil, if you're looking for the flavor.
  • Anything high in fiber. Raw veggies are always good. I also try to squeeze in a snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon, even if it's only a small something. I find I eat a lot less at lunch and dinner and feel less hungry throughout the day. Hope this helps!
  • They come out mighty tasty in a Foreman grill - little bit of lemon juice, salt and pepper :)
  • To look good and feel comfortable in a bikini *sigh* Hope we get there this summer!
  • Wow you look FANTASTIC!!! You go girl :)
  • Thanks all!!! Can't wait to read about all of your success stories :)
  • I don't even own a scale, and I like it that way. If I want to weigh myself, I'll have to go out of my way to do it. I'd rather measure inches, anyway.
  • I just started yesterday. Muscles I didn't even know existed are sore. Guess it's doing its job :) If I have few hundred extra calories for the day, to be honest, I usually indulge and have a beer...just one :) Obviously not the most nutritious way to boost your calories, but hey, I'm not perfect. Maybe try to fit in an…
  • Yes, this basically verifies what I was thinking. Good to know about the heat - I always thought sweat + higher heart rate = more calories burned. Guess this is not necessarily true. I'll continue to be conservative when I count these calories. I usually go twice a week, not for the calories, but for the benefits I get…
  • 145 lbs, 5'2" Hope that helps :)
  • I try to eat a light snack/salad before I go out. When your meal comes to the table, ask for a box and put half of it away before you even start eating. Try vodka, soda and lime. I think 2 oz of vodka is around 65 calories, and the soda has none.
  • http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/3047-700-calories-a-day-and-not-losing This might not be your exact situation, but it definitely explains a lot about how this might happen (and it's a good read!) Good luck with the diet! Stick with it and I'm sure you'll see results :)
  • Congrats on the beautiful (I'm sure!) baby girl! Glad you're thinking of yourself during such a hectic time and realizing it's important to treat your body well, too. I'm sure she's going to hard to keep up with over the next few months, so getting in shape will certainly help :) Welcome!
  • Well, it really depends on what you eat, when you're eating it, and how much water you drink. I try to eat 5 times a day if possible (and maybe a 6th if I want some dessert!) and I've found that these between meal snacks have cut down what I eat for lunch and dinner by nearly half. Add a whole bunch of water to that, and…
  • http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/warm-spinach-and-artichoke-dip-recipe/index.html Also, you can't go wrong with raw veggies and homemade hummus!
  • Because the exercise you did for the day burned many of those calories, so they're kind of a wash in many ways, especially as far as your body is concerned. There are actually many more detailed explanations that you can find on this forum. Believe me, this is a topic of much debate and can be a little difficult to…
  • That means that your body has only received 360 calories for the day - not nearly what it needs. So, quite simply, you need to eat another 1000 calories to give you your 1360 net. Not eating these calories risks putting your body into starvation mode, and can actually make it much more difficult for you to lose weight.…
  • Skinny Cow makes some really good 100 calorie desserts, if you like ice cream. Also, you might want to check out the recipe forums - you'll probably find a multitude of wonderfully sweet desserts :) Or course, with any diet, moderation is key. But don't deprive yourself! You'll never stick to a diet where you're left…
  • If you have Netflix, there is a selection of workout videos that you can add to your instant queue. I've only done one of them, but it looks like there are definitely a bunch out there. Just something to consider :)
  • Don't know much about the protein thing, but here is my way of determining affect vs effect: Affect is a verb, or an Action...so it starts with an A! Effect is a noun and is...well, not an action, but by process of elimination it starts with an E :P So you can have an effect on someone/something, or you can affect…
