Didn't eat enough yesterday

I did a pretty rigorous working yesterday...well, for me anyway In any case, I basically ended up crashing on the couch and eating three tablespoons of peanut butter for dinner, because it was all the energy I had. I ended up being about 1000 calories under for the day (I ALWAYS eat back my exercise calories). My question is this: Is it better to leave it as it is and move on, or should I try to eat a little extra today to prevent my body from going into "starvation mode?"

Yesterday is done, so I would move on. I had a day like that and am looking at it the same way as going over the cals intake. You had a bad day, it's over, move on. And don't dwell on it. Only passing on advice that I got here and the helps me through my guilt trips.0

I created that forum about 'Starvation Mode' and I would recommend you read through it as well. I also have a link within that link above that talks a lot more about what 'Starvation Mode' is actually all about. If I were you though, I would keep going on with your regular diet and exercise. Of course, don't take my word for it because I'm not 100% sure, that's just what I would do. Hopefully you get more people to post on here and give you their incite. I just doubt you'll have to worry about it though.0 -
I don't believe your body will go into starvation in one day. Stay on top of your calories today. You should be fine.0

Thanks for this one - very interesting. And I feel better now I'll definitely make sure I eat enough today (yet another rough workout ahead of me after work). I think it's a good day for an extra whole wheat pancake!0 -

it takes about 4/5 days for your body to go into "starvation mode" ...... i've actually been studying woo! although ofcourse dont starve yourself for 4 days because its "ok to do".
basically if you're not taking in food....your body has miraculous ways of making sure you have enough energy to fuel your activities and ofcourse your bodily functions...ofcourse you feel rubbish as its giving you the bare minimum of energy. if it could give you all your energy we wouldnt need to eat on a daily basis, we would be more like snakes! lol
if your not taking in glucose from diet: glucagon (stored glucose in the liver) is the first thing to be processed into glucose via glycogenisis, then it is protein (ie mucle) via glyconeogenisis, then fat via lipogenisis, only when it has run out of these things, will it hang on to anything you eat there after. Now this isnt to say if you're overweight you can starve yourself for longer because you have more fat that can be used for energy as it only metabolises certain fats, its all very complex and rather dull.

I am so glad you asked this question. I too did not consume my calories all the way, but I'm eating VERY healthy so I figured it couldn't be all bad. I'm also eating more frequently than I ever have before. Again, figured that can't be bad.
I have several times not eaten my calorie goal, so striven to eat MFP calorie goal of 1200 and not made that either. This article completely helped. I was so freaked out about 'starvation mode' but the lbs keep coming off and I am feeling better and more energized that I ever have before, that I couldn't figure out why it was a bad thing.
Obviously I do not make a habit of purposely going under my goal, but when I am eating all day long and my food, meals and snacks are not reaching the calories, I can't always help that. LOL
Healthy food is definitely less calories than the crap I was eating before. Thanks for clearing up the truth about Starvation Mode. I'm totally sharing that link with others!0
