I'm not entirely clear myself on how Garmin figures out how many calories I need but I do know it's based off of a BMR calculation of some sort. MFP must use a different one? At any rate, I refuse to go under a certain number of calories so I have the negative calorie adjustment turned off in mine. Garmin will adjust my…

It was actually my daughter who started it. I lost some weight before my last child was born more than 10 years ago but I didn't have MFP then. My oldest daughter was having some issues so we started doing some elimination diets for her and discovered that many of her issues were related to gluten. When the whole family…

I've got the Garmin Vivofit 2 with a HRM strap. It's my first wrist tracker so I don't know any better when it comes to the fitbit software (although I have the option of using fitbits site if I want to try it. It's not as smooth an interface as if I had an actual fitbit I guess but I haven't tried it.) I picked the…

Like the others have said, you need to make extra sure you're logging accurately. I also wanted to comment that if you are weighing and measuring everything and find you are only eating that much then you really need to find a way to eat closer to your goal. Building muscle in a small deficit usually doesn't happen but you…

I knit and crochet. I'm bi-stitchual. ;) It keeps me from eating while watching TV because I don't want to get food on my beautiful yarn! And for the record, all four of my kids knit and/or crochet and none of them are even legal to drink yet.

I have one by Gary Kraftsow that is really good and designed for low back pain. He also has an upper back routine on another DVD. It's about $15 on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Viniyoga-Therapy-Back-Sacrum-Kraftsow/dp/B000U0C9UE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1426469205&sr=8-3&keywords=gary+kraftsow

Potatoes and white rice are both foods that should give her some calories. Especially if she has anything on them. Can she do dairy at all? Cheddar cheese is on the okay list and added to a potato could give her a nice calorie boost. I'm on a low FODMAP diet for the same reason but I seem to have no problem getting my…

What were they having you do for PT? Can you talk with your physical therapist about what exercises would be best to begin rebuilding strength and mobility? My husband has an issue with his shoulder (old dislocation that needs surgery that he will never take time off work to get). He was doing well with exercises his…

Let us all now bow our heads for a moment of silence.... Seriously, that sucks! I hope you find it!

I'm in WA and it looks like I eat pretty similarly to you. I'm on a low FODMAP elimination diet at the moment to try to get my IBS under control. In a few weeks I'll be testing things, one at a time. Until then, it's pretty sparse so I feel your pain! I mostly don't eat grains (just occasionally), can't eat aspartame or…

That's all I took away from it too, unless I missed something? How many times I chew and swallow won't really help me a whole lot. I mean, cheetos and carrot sticks are both little orange sticks but they have different nutrient profiles and I would imagine I'd have to chew the carrots a lot more. Plus, that thing was ugly…

I've had my Polar FT4 for several years. I've had to replace the battery in the watch itself but the strap still works great. That was my one hesitation about ordering the Vivofit from Garmin, their strap doesn't have a good reputation.

We've just gotten over a cold and my son and I both had nosebleeds after it finally cleared. My son's were MUCH worse than mine. I asked him not to lift for a few days after his quit just to make sure it's fully healed. Be aware of what you might be eating that could cause your blood to be thinner too. My son is a big…

I have four that we've homeschooled from the beginning. When they were younger I did DVDs at home but now that they're old enough to leave I go to the gym. I don't feel bad leaving them for a time because I need it, am a better mom if I have a little time to my self and I'm setting an example that taking care of your own…

I just ordered a Garmin Vivofit 2 so I don't have personal experience with it yet but the features seemed to be what I wanted. I got the additional HRM chest strap so I can get a better picture of what I'm burning during a cardio session. This one does say it will sync with my galaxy s5 (android) and with the strap it will…

It can be discouraging if all you're focused on is that end number. What are some other things you hope to accomplish? Do you want to be more fit so you can keep up with those little ones? You could set some fitness goals. You could also focus on smaller weight loss milestones and celebrate each little victory! Or if…

Do you keep a food diary? If you don't, it's a good idea to start and see if you can nail down your triggers. I have been gluten free for three years but I did that because I realized gluten triggered migraines in me. It helped with the IBS a little bit but certainly didn't cure me. Last fall I decided to go grain free…

A good place to start here is get some friends in your friend list. Make sure your goals are reasonable and doable and then aim to meet them. By that I mean, don't have calorie intake set at some ridiculously low number and then be surprised when you crack and eat everything in the house. If you're wanting to set yourself…

One thing that helped me with mobility was I would bend down and hold my feet then slowly lower my butt down into the squat position. I could get as low as I could without feeling like I was going to fall over and just kind of hang out there and feel the stretch. I still do it just because it feels good.

I go to the gym but I also have a variety of DVD's for when I just want to do something different at home. I have a couple of Beach Body sets (P90X and TurboFire) but I bought both of them off Craigslist for less than half the price of ordering them through a coach. I just made sure I had a player with me to test the discs…

I am no expert and haven't even started the program yet (though I plan to). I am in a Facebook group for SC where the ladies are VERY helpful, you may want to join it if you're on FB. I have seen your question asked a number of times and the general consensus seems to be to go ahead into the advanced program once you're…

Are your lifts progressing? How much weight have you added to your lifts over the last year? You've lost a lot of weight, do you have more to go or are you at a maintenance level as far as that goes?

I usually stir fry them but you can steam or nuke them too. I suppose you could even roast them if you wanted. I love them!

I have found that no matter what kind of exercise I do, I feel better after. I also love peppermint tea for bloating and gas. I've just ordered some enteric coated peppermint capsules because they're supposed to be really good for soothing the intestinal tract. The enteric coating keeps them from opening until they're in…

My difficulty is definitely spices! I'm also nightshade free (tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, peppers, paprika, tomatillos, etc) so you can imagine the limitations I have with also being low Fodmap! Today for lunch I cooked a little ground beef and seasoned it with salt, pepper, basil and oil of oregano. I used my spiralizer…

I tried keto before I decided to try FODMAPs and it made things worse for me. Most likely because the foods I was eating (cauliflower, garlic and onions galore!) are things that are high FODMAP and I personally don't tolerate well. I'm not saying one way is better than the other, I'm just sharing my experience. After…

I'm currently on the elimination part of this myself so I feel your pain. I am so tired of the issues I'm having that I've finally decided to try this after resisting for quite some time. I'm hopeful that when I get to the reintroduction stage I can just identify a few things that bother me and be able to add the rest back…

I'm having a horrible time because I'm trying to remove dairy to help with my IBS issues. The problem is, I always have a cup of coffee with just half and half and all the non-dairy creamers are sweet! My coffee today tasted like disappointment. If I don't find something that actually tastes good I'm probably going to end…

I'm currently doing one 3/4" slice of pineapple, a whole orange, 1/4 of a lime, several cups of spinach and a little water or almond milk to get it all moving since all my ingredients are frozen. This makes enough for two so I pour them and then freeze one. One of my favorites was spinach, tart cherries, almond milk, a…
