  • Have you tried cutting gluten out of the diet for a month and seeing what happens? Then going back to the doctors and seeing what they say if you find an improvement. At least if you don't you've not lost anything (though you would need to go back onto gluten if they decided you needed a test for it to be accurate).
  • Hi! And in the nicest possible way I'm really sorry to have to see you here. How are you going now yoyr diet has changed. Have you noticed a real difference this past year?
  • Hey Sue! Really sorry to hear you're in hospital. I hope they get you stable and home soon!! Chances are with steriods you will gain. Most people do and it really seems to depend on the individual how much. But don't see this as a reason not to take them - your health is much more important!!
  • Thanks, I think the only answer is to try and see on a week where I don't have any other plans!
  • Thanks. I'm learning fasting seems to be the only way to settle my stomach once it goes into over drive (like Saturday night when I got glutened at a friends BBQ - not fun) as even sipping water feels like I've eaten broken glass. I'm just a little worried it might also set off IBS when things are good. I guess there's…
  • Full support for browsing Pintrest here - in fact my foods became so varied after being gluten free I've had to cut back to try and loose weight!
  • I'm also looking at following FODMAPS. It is stuck on my fridge at home and proves a great visual reminder for what I can't eat for my partner. Its definitely possible to live gluten free and there's loads of recipe websites that will help you make old favourites with any restrictions (PIntrest is rather good for this! As…
  • I /think/ Actimel is making a difference for me. Certainly when I don't take it for a few days I feel sluggish and more prone to constipation. I've been taking it for a few months now and for cost purposes will be switching to the Aldi version to see if I have the same benefits / it doesn't screw things up. Even if its…
  • We've found that there is now no such thing as a simple shopping trip as I'm not trusting *anything* any more. I even check cleaning products for the house. Unfortunately I'm still recovering after a meal at the future in laws on Sunday and I know they work very hard to not have gluten so I'm not sure what slipped in but…
  • Thanks everyone. I'm still having plenty of carbs so will start the battle of trying to get an appointment with the GP. Perhaps I can convince him to pass me on to a specialist / nutritionist at the same time...
  • Depends who it is. For instance if the mother-in-law / mother of the bride wore white I would be horribly confused as to what they were thinking and wondering how much in their minds the wedding was as much about them as the happy couple and this would piss me off (if it were my wedding) terribly. Because I am a very prone…
  • I had a lunch meeting this week and the gluten free option was a bottle of water so I'd definitely be up for seeing companies make a bit of effort! Like you I would have probably just had one of the morning tea things (you can always say you don't have a sweet tooth) as they probably didn't expect you to eat both they just…
  • Afternoon! I've just started to make this recipe and realised in the instructions you've written "add eggs" but (unless I'm being a bit simple - entirely possible! ) I can't see eggs in the ingredients list. Should there be eggs? Thanks ever so!
  • Wow I didn't know that about shredded cheese. Thanks ever so for the recipes. Its going to be a wet cold weekend and I forsee lots of baking! :D
  • I think I'm going to have to go to Aldi when its quiet (ha!) And have some serious browsing time to work out all the labels - its our local supermarket so would be super useful. Its a shame I'm too tight fisted to see if there's an app where you can scan barcodes on your phone and it tells you if its gluten / dairy / etc…
  • Thanks! My local Tesco seemed a little limited - but I guess I'm still lost wandering the isles! I'm going to do an internet delivery so will use Sainsburys and see what I can find. I found this blog that lists cupboard essentials which is helpful!…
  • Afternoon all. I'm in my late 20s, living in the UK, and currently under going tests for IBS / Crohns. GPs here are a little lax in coughing up information that would be *really* helpful so I'm hunting the internet for advise. I've already found the FODMAP which I am going to incorporate into my diet to see if that makes a…
  • Thanks for adding to this Fcordingley! I was starting to think that the delayed symptoms were just my mind driving me crazy! (I am aware I over think things at the best of times so am starting to get to the stage where I am not sure what is "normal" happens to everyone and what is potentially something to concentrate on…
  • I just wanted to say I'm so very grateful for your being on this group! I'm picking up so much that the doctors didn't tell me. I went on a few "help groups" but found them very "oh poor me" which isn't my style (not that I don't complain my fair share). Today marks the start of week three of a very restricted diet…
  • Thanks. I'm really struggling because its such a bland diet! I've found home made hummus that I can make in a batch and freeze until required useful (after all its just just blended chickpea with a spot of garlic, lemon juice and in my case either cooked beetroot or cooked onion) with sweet potato "crisps" (thin slices…
  • Thanks. I'll definitely remember this for once I'm allowed to eat a little more! (Yesterday was 360 calories and I didn't feel at all hungry so struggled to eat any more than I did). I think finding something like shakes and foods I can graze on is the way forward in the long run.
  • I've not lost a lot so don't get comments as you can't really tell but does anyone else find that the only people who want to give you "advice" on dieting are the ones who are obese ones who you know couldn't run up a flight of stairs much less put down the cake and go for a walk? My mother is a prime example. She's short,…
  • 28 years here & been in pain since I was 19. It sucks but the idea of NOT being here sucks even more.
  • Thanks ever so much for the links canadjineh. I wanted to find some forums or blogs filled with real people rather than doctors opinions or websites whose only aim is to get you to try their product but I was a little wary about over whelming myself with information and going into a full blown meltdown so until now MFP has…
  • Thanks so much for this! I was wondering how I'd curb any sweet cravings but these sound realky good!
  • Good point on the squash. I don't know how you all cope reading every label, it makes me dizzy just thinking about it. Yes yoghurt is counted for this first month but I think my probiotic yoghurts helped whether that was all in my mind I don't know, certainly they were a. Easy meal on a bad day so I'm hoping they'll be…
  • Thanks ever so! I'm going to be tracking everything here as I want to make sure I'm getting enough calories too and I'm not clever enough to work it all out with a pencil and paper. I'll definitely look at the SCD diet.
