FYI... It's called the Hamwi formula and it's 100# for eery 5' and 5# for every inch over PLUS OR MINUS TEN PERCENT. When you go below 5', you're supposed to subtract 2# per inch. So if you're 4'9" then your IBW is 94# +/- 10% I'm a dietitian and do this all day. And hopefully never give bad advice.

I understand - this happens to me, too. I have an anxiety disorder and go through bouts of depression (usually around my birthday!) Ihave been on antidepressants before, too. I don't like taking medication and luckily for me I can manage without - some people can't, and that's fine. We're all different :) Anyway, what I do…

I'm a Dietitian. Most of my peeves happen outside of work - where everyone is an "expert" on food, nutrition, whatever - and I am forced to bite my tongue to avoid looking like a know-it-all. Still, it's frustrating to be in a field, holding my professional registration and a specialty board certification, to see dummies…

^^ This, for me too. So glad I have a man now who loves to kiss me :x

^^ all of this MFP is free and shows you a lot more about what you're eating. I liked WW, but MFP really helps you track your eating patterns better. You can still choose more fruits/veg (I do) but instead of converting everything into proprietary points, you can just get a grip on your body and make peace with calories.

I'm getting married on May 5th!!! I have 7 more pounds to lose until my wedding goal (ten more after that) I have a dress fitting today!! :D

I just finished a cup of tea. But before that, I had a tiny sliver of no sugar added peach pie (my sweet guy, trying not to sabotage me, haha) and a tiny scoop of ice cream. It was tiny heaven!

I love my shape! It's a fantastic hourglass and looks AMAZING in a dress. I might want to firm it up, but I'd never change it, ever <3

I like french toast, too. I had a slice for breakfast this morning. But if you're impressed you had enough ingredients to make it, and you're an RD who tells other people how to eat all day long, that's sorta awful... at least to me

Honestly most of the time when people talk about nutrition, I just shut off, because I don't want to be a know-it-all, but they are almost always wrong. (It's like lawyers watching "Law & Order") Most hated: -Anything about fad diets (paleo, low-carb, gluten-free, low-fat, EVERYTHING) -Vegans who talk about human…

Unfortunately I have found that most people who drop weight this fast with the extreme calorie restriction lose muscle mass as well... that can end up slowing down your basal metabolism in the long run (which is where "starvation mode" comes from)

Most of the fiber supplements you buy in the stores (except Metamucil) are soluble fiber - those are actually bulk-forming and can constipate you. If you're using a lot of stool softeners/laxatives, your body can become reliant on those to have a BM. If you are eating a lot of protein, or taking supplements with a lot of…

I gained a lot of weight when I was unhappily married and eating my feelings... then lost it all (and then some) after my divorce. Now that I am happily engaged, I have found myself being super-domestic and wanting to bake and make really rich food... so I've gained a tiny bit back. It depends on what your triggers are, I…

Are you exercising? How much? Are you tracking inches lost as well?

Ooh! Another twin!

I'm 28, 5'6" Sw: 160, CW: 157 (lol), GW: 140 I'd say we're pretty close?

I do this too and I don't know why! I'm sure if I slowed down and enjoyed my food more, I would be ultra-skinny. I'm self-conscious about it so usually when someone makes a comment about how I'm done already, I say "Prison will do that to you!"
-
Well that's just embarrassing. Edit: I guess there are dummies in every field. Some of the best nutrition advice I have read comes from Michael Pollan, a journalist with no nutrition degree. I can assure you I'm an excellent dietitian :)

Well I'm an RD with a specialty certification in Nutrition Support, so I AM considered an expert in the field and I DO know what I'm talking about... but I usually avoid internet nutrition debates because even though I know what I'm talking about, if someone is convinced of their junk science, logic and facts do precious…

Thinking about giving up MEAT old-school style... but I am not sure if I can hack it.

Oh I am totally in! I am getting married May 5, 2012 and REALLY need to buckle down so I look AMAZING in my dress (and on my honeymoon!) I am looking to lose about 10-15 pounds - I lost 35, gained 10 back... need to get back on track!
-
Beautiful and balanced!! Love it!
-
Looks great!! You can really see the difference!!

YES :( But please don't get discouraged. Find something that fits comfortably and looks nice, even if you feel big in it - this is just temporary. You WILL lose the weight. When I tried on a single-digit pair of pants and they fit, I cried tears of joy. It came full circle!

Sodium is a naturally occurring electrolyte in the body of living things. There will be naturally occurring sodium in any animal product. That's really not the sodium you have to worry about , the added sodium in the processed foods is what causes so many problems.

I'm an RD and this is exactly what I would recommend for a pt with PCOS... with the exception of the filtered water and eating organic... which can't really hurt you (except your wallet). Medical Nutrition Therapy is based on peer-reviewed medical journals -- not media hype, not fad diets, not the internet. PCOS treatment…
