One peeve is that "gluten free" is working it's way into synonymy with "better for you". I mean when I see this on a bottle of tea (TEA FFS it's just leaves and water!) this has gone too far. There's a point to helping people deal with celiac disease but. . .

    Yeah.

Its not going too far putting gluten-free on packaging - so many things that you wouldn't think of can have gluten in it.

It's true. It's good for those that are intolerant, and much easier to shop for when it says GLUTEN FREE right on the front instead of having to read all of the ingredients (though I still do to see what other fun things they threw in there.)

I do agree on the coke thing... I mean I love it when they say there is aspartame in it... as they are chewing sugar free gum which also has it in it.

I also don't like the low fat idea, but honestly I do not like to bash other people's diet choices... if they find something that works for them, fine, so long as it is sustainable. I personally love my fatty avocados, coconut oil, and olive oil. :)

drinking diet coke gives you cancer

Paleo is the be all and end off of dieting

    fat makes you fat

You must eat breakfast within XX of waking up to kick start you're metabolism

    No carbs after XX oclock

I only eat sweet potatoes & brown rice & then put dextrose in my post workout shake for the insulin spike.

No white carbs allowed because they're high GI.

Anything to do with raw foods & juicing or HCG.

I don't eat bananas because they have too many carbs.

Honestly most of the time when people talk about nutrition, I just shut off, because I don't want to be a know-it-all, but they are almost always wrong. (It's like lawyers watching "Law & Order")

    Most hated:

-Anything about fad diets (paleo, low-carb, gluten-free, low-fat, EVERYTHING)
-Vegans who talk about human physiology and are wrong
-Bro science and people with online nutrition "degrees" that know just enough to be dangerous to their clients

and the VERY WORST THING I have to deal with is the other dietitians who repeat stupid BS they are taught in school, making all the rest of us look stupid (dietary cholesterol, "jumpstarting your metabolism," the stupid food pyramid, etc)

this. think of how many processed foods are "low calorie" and "low fat"

I like my calories AND my fat, thanks :)

I've taken some food science classes and have heard multiple rants by the professors about organic milk. Waste of money, they say. It contains the same nine essential nutrients of regular milk and isn't any healthier. Antibiotic residue is removed, and the milk is tested before it is shipped out. Basically, it just means the farmers can't treat their sick cows-or do treat them and move them to the non-organic part of their farm.

That because I eat low carb, my brain will cease to function.

I've been eating under 100g per day for 20 years, working on my second degree, full academic scholarship, 4.0 GPA, and business owner for 6 years. Guess now that I know that I don't have the digestive enzymes to metabolize them,( which caused my weight gain )and am trying to cut below 20g, I can kiss my brain goodbye.

    Some studies say differently:

    http://solorya.hubpages.com/hub/Organic-Milk--Is-It-Worth-Your-Money

I think it's a no-brainer that organic is healthier in pretty much all cases. The once exception I can think of being peanut butter.

My pet peeve is those who think that low-calorie means healthy.

'Eating avocado will make you fat'

*SIGH* No, it won't - it contains a heap of fantastic wonder-nutrients. Besides, I like my healthy hair, skin and nails thankyouverymuch!

By volume, it does. I don't think they are many people who think that a pound of anything weighs more than a pound of anything else. The logic used in this argument would mean that everything weighs the same.

By volume yes, because it is more dense, but pound for pound they weigh the same.

A girl I know asked why I don't drink sugar-free drinks instead because "they're so much better for you and you can add a snack for the same amount of calories as you would drinking a normal-sugar drink". I told her I would rather drink some sugar than be sick from aspartame all day (not saying this goes for everyone, but aspartame makes me REALLY ill!)

The thing I hate is when people hear something is 'healthy' for them and so they force themselves to choke it down even though they HATE it and it makes them gag. Seriously, whatever benefits that food has can probably be found in another food that you DO like. There's no way I'm going to force myself to eat something that makes me want to vomit. That's no way to live.

When people think drinking diet coke is automatically better than drinking regular coke. Umm just because it has no calories and sugar does not mean it's great for you. Look at the ingredient list. Also, there's still a lot of the same stuff in there even if it has no calories and sugar in it.

There are TONS of things that you wouldn't think have wheat in them, makes it a but easier when it is for sure gluten-free. When I was told I was intolerant I didn't know soy sauce had wheat in it. But people that do it because they think it's healthier I don't get, I would totally eat the hell out of some bread right now if I could!!! Lol

I hate people who go on and on about the evils of aspartame because it isn't "natural" and they read some horrible things off of some website, when aspartame is actually an amino acid chain that is found naturally in chicken, steak, beans, nuts, tofu, and every other protein source, in much higher concentrations than you'd get from an entire 12 pack of diet soda.

    Pshaw.

Compare and contrast that with the small text at the end of the ingredients list: "May contain. . ." Good enough for eggs, dairy, nuts. Show me the "Casein Free!" section in the grocery store and then maybe we can talk. Manufacturers, marketers are taking advantage of gluten FUD.

I don't care, say what you want. Believe what you want. Not everything works for everyone. But...

I HATE when people ask how I've lost the weight and kept it off...then tell me how its wrong. Eye roll. "I hate running" "You workout too much!" "You drink WHOLE MILK? full fat yogurt? YOU DON"T WATCH YOUR FAT OR REALLY CALORIE COUNT?!?! You feed your kids like that too?!

Ok, why did you ask me?

"I don't eat egg yolks, they are bad for you" DOLT!

"I give up. I've only been doing this for 2 weeks and I've gained" Funny thing about this, If you check their food diary, they have changed their goals no less than 10 times in 2 weeks. Patience people

I don't know for sure if it fits in here, but I have a friend who complains about not losing any weight, but refuses to cut back on what she eats, and will not eat fresh fruits veggies or try a new dish. Then she says I won't lose weight if I am eating healthier exercisng etc. because "It's in our genes to be overweight!"

I just want to slap her.:grumble:
