  • I am not a morning person either ... I'd rather stay up all night than hear the alarm go off in the middle of the night.

  • Is hot fudge sauce a condiment? Well, that's a no-no. I love vinegar on my french fries, but french fries are off the list. Horse radish sauce on my prime rib? No. Okay, dill pickles.
  • The deep fried peanuts come in a bag - like regular in-the-shell peanuts. They are not hot, but they can be purchased hot (as in spicey! ) Yes, you really do eat the shell, and it is easy to eat. But I cannot find a calorie count anywhere ... not that I think they are low.
  • Beautiful! You will shine in Connecticut!
  • What a topic! Deep fried ANYTHING should be taboo.... but I had about ten (way too good for my good). Now, I have no idea how many calories to write down. Anyone have a clue on Deep Fried Peanuts (you pop the whole thing in your mouth - shell and all)?
  • Yes, one meal at a time, one day at a time. I keep telling myself "slow and steady wins the race," and my weight loss has been very slow and somewhat steady. Hang in there!
  • Pele was a fantastic soccor player, and famous around the world. He doesn't play anymore.

  • Clever! I did not know you could do such a thing.

  • I had low fat cottage cheesewith an assortment of fresh fruit - pineapple, raspberries, blueberries, kiwi, plum, and peach, and a nice slice of seeded wheat bread. It was so good I thought I was eating dessert.
  • Branagh and Youngs look great ... I haven't worn a two piece bathing suit in 40 years - but I sure could go for those flat bellies!
  • Considering your circumstances, why not try some of the protein bars that are available. They are easy to carry around - satisfying, too.
  • Yikes - I remember it all too well. When our children are doing what we hoped, why do we feel so bad? Listen to some happy music on the way home. Can you stop at a mall on the way home? You could do a quick walk around the mall, then stop and buy yourself a special treat (perfume, not food!).
  • Kirsti, If you keep a food diary, you are already on the road to success. The diary keeps you "honest." The August 4 issue of Time has an article, "Dear (Food) Diary," that supports this form of weight loss. It is interesting to see how many calories in a cup of raw spinach compared to a cup of pasta. Don't worry about one…

  • Great Topic! But ... I'm struggling here ... trying to think of something exciting. I have actually said "no" to my favorites, double cheeseburger with extra pickles and french fries with vinegar and salt., and opted for a salad with dressing (low fat) on the side. But a size 6? If I ever hit that, you will know from…
  • It is a big deal!
  • How about keeping track of calories on paper? You know what foods are "the good, the bad, and the very ugly," and seeing what you've eaten may help as the day progresses. And take a walk. And my old standby - chew gum.

  • Yes! Yes! Yes! And finally getting over the hump is so rewarding. My plateau sent me to find a quote on miracles.
  • Hey, Tam! I just got back from Connecticut. My son lives there now. And ... wow .. today is our wedding anniversary - we were married in Newington 37 years ago. All sorts of connections with Connecticut.
  • You can do it! Put that baby boy in a stroller and do the fast walk! I've been on a plateau (for what seems) forever, but broke through this morning: what a relief. My son was in the Marines for eight years. Semper Fi.
  • This might not be what you want, but white carbs (white rice, potatoes) suppsedly are not as good for you as whole grain and rich color (brown rice, yams). I have no idea why, but I switched. Of course, I've been stuck on this plateau for I don't know how long ...
  • How wonderful that Ed actually checked on the noise ... many would not. And an emergency doesn't wait for jeans - good thing he wasn't commando!
  • Welcome! I don't know what happens after 40, but it happens after 50, too., whatever it is. Goodluck on your journey. My body does not want to give up an ounce - it has been a fight since I started working on it last October. I average a little over a pound a month, and that is discouraging. Still, I am 13 pounds lighter,…
  • Night eating! I understand. I have to force myself to eat before noon. I have found it helps (a little) to pop in some gum - at least I am chewing.

  • I am so glad you are not taking your scale! Your vacation sounds wonderful. Have fun, fun, fun!
  • I love  smoothies for breakfast, lunch, snacks: 1 cup of non-fat yogurt, few ice cubes ice cubes, 1/2 cup frozen fruit, 1/4 cup low fat milk, and some extra flavoring (vanilla, strawberry etc.) in the blender - easy to figure calories.
  • WOW! You have done a marvelous job! I am impressed with your focus and fortitude and self-discipline.
  • We are all in the same boat on this site: struggling with our weight. Writing down every food consumed is the proven best way to lose the pounds. (Of course - that does mean doing something other than just writing down the chocolate eclair!)
  • Homemade sweet potato pie! Grandma! Enjoy the memories and move on to the next day. We all have a problem with over eating or we would not be here.
  • WELCOME BACK! Two pounds! good for you

  • my day started out great (diet-wise), then I fell into the abyss at dinner time. My daughter and I went to Olive Garden,,,,I ate half of my entree, one bread stick, salad, and a half a piece of lemon creme cake...900 calories. I had so many calories left for dinner, that I didn't "worry," I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE FUCUSED,…
